Last month, I visited Delhi and enjoyed meeting with creators, artists, advertisers, and industry leaders. There’s so much creativity in India! Sharing a few trends and insights I observed while on the ground there: (1) Indian creators are building successful businesses with Shorts, which now have TRILLIONS of views in the country. Take the creator Biju, for example, whose family shares their day-to-day life via Shorts. At over 55 million subscribers, they’re now the biggest creators in APAC! (2) YouTube’s views on connected TV have more than quadrupled in India in the last 3 years,* and we’re the most watched streaming service on big screens there.** At our event, Brandcast India, creators like Tanmay Bhat and Slayy Point took center-stage and showcased the power of YouTube in the Living Room to advertisers. (3) Bollywood continues to transcend culture. I loved seeing creators’ excitement when Aamir Khan, India’s leading actor and filmmaker, surprised them at our Creator Summit. I’ve been a fan of his work for years, and loved hearing his perspectives on balancing art and business, dealing with failure, and the importance of making a positive impact on society. (4) We’re continuing to partner with policymakers to support India's growing digital economy. I met with several senior officials, including four cabinet ministers from the Indian government—the Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal, Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Culture & Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu and Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. We discussed the incredible growth of India’s creator economy and our shared goals of increasing access to learning and opportunities. (5) No matter where you are in the world, creators do it all…they’re coming up with creative ideas to reach a global audience through YouTube. I saw this again and again as I met with over 100 top creators from all over India at our first Creator Summit in the country. One highlight was talking with Kamiya Jani of Curly Tales about our commitment to the creator community, emerging opportunities and trends, and of course, my favorite Indian comfort foods. Head over to Kamiya’s channel to watch our conversation. I also filmed a Short with Sanjyot Keer from Your Food Lab, who started his own food channel and launched a cooking appliance business. He taught me how to prepare Basket Chaat, a popular dish from Lucknow, my family’s hometown. We made a great team, check it out… https://lnkd.in/g-FRyhn3 * 2020-2023 ** According to Comscore
