Should Honey Chandler have been allowed to bring up the information about Harry’s mother? Does this have a bearing on the case?

Just when I thought I couldn't dislike the woman any more...

Unfortunately, it does have a bearing on the case if she can make the jury believe Bosch was motivated by his mother's murder.

It was a low blow and also very damming for Harry because it does/did have a big part in shaping the man he became. I'm surprised that the department didn't have Harry evaluated themselves by a mental health expert. That is usually what happens after a cop related/evolved shooting.

Another example of how well Chandler does her research. I suppose she can argue that he was traumatized by his mother's murder so that would make it allowed. She's being an aggressive advocate for her client, who unfortunately, is not Harry.

I think the fact that Harry's mother was a prostitute and was murdered does show that Harry could have more reason to jump at shooting Church because of Harry's feelings about his mother's murderer. So Chandler was very smart to bring this information into the case.

If we read the Micky Haller series I may be giving something away...but as many of these books as are, we'll all be old and blind by the time we finish them so...If I remember right when Harry first met Micky and found out that he was his cousin...I think Harry told him about his mother being murdered but Harry also told Mickey that he was raised by his grandmother after he had been through several foster homes unsuccessfully...so maybe his mother's murder wasn't such a big deal to him. He had been removed from his mother's home several years before going to his grandmother. I may not be remembering it right. I'm may already be old and blind and also senile:)

Yes. There is argument that Harry has been forever altered because of his mother's death and the killer was never caught. So when he starts trying to catch the dollmaker he could inadvertently be thinking about his past and be more apt to shoot the man he believes to be the current killer.

>7 jodiesohl:. Well put Jodie! The department messed up on this. How could they not know this information! Honey is a good lawyer!

Post #6 - I was wrong that Harry had been raised by his grandmother...that was Stone Barrington from the series that Stuart Woods writes. Harry did spent his formative years in various foster homes.

>9 Carol420: that’s correct. You’re slightly off on the relationship as well but I’m not going to say how - we can find that out for ourselves if we read that series. :) (plus I think that little nugget comes out in the first book (maybe the 2nd) so you didn’t give too much away)

While it was an awful thing for her to do, I think she felt that it was pertinent to the case as it may have been a trigger for how Harry behaved when he found the man that he thought was the Dollmaker. However, I think they could have shown that Harry had acted aboveboard on prior cases of this type (he was in RHD after all) so he was not influenced by his upbringing.
