Roberto Bolaño (1953–2003)

I decided to get this book on Kindle and as an audiobook. The book is divided into three sections. I really enjoyed the first section the most. It’s about a 17-year-old who drops out of college. This part of the novel reminded me of the shards by Brett Easton Ellis. Especially because the kid develops a relationship with his girlfriend‘s father. His story is dropped until the third part of the book when it’s picked up again but it’s a lot less interesting. He’s traveling through Mexico on a road trip to find the birthplace of an obscure poet. This was a great book. It would’ve been a lot better without so much boring stuff about obscure poetry terms. The book ends enigmatically so you never really find out if the kid straightened his life around and went back to college or just became a hobo person traveling from place to place.… (more)
