9 (TIE). ‘The West Wing’ (1999-2006)
Number of wins: 26
The show that turned Aaron Sorkin into a superstar screenwriter and made the walk-and-talk his signature scene, ‘The West Wing’ was an of-the-moment hit if there ever was one. A series like it, with such a deeply optimistic view of the inner workings of the White House, could only have been made in the late ’90s at the tail end of the Clinton years. But those very qualities helped the NBC series attract eyeballs and rapturous critical acclaim, and won it four Outstanding Drama Series trophies over its long run. The ensemble was consistently showered with trophies, too: Allison Janney won three Best Supporting Actress awards for her role as Press Secretary C.J. Gregg, and actors Richard Schiff, Bradley Whitford, John Spencer, Stockard Channing, and Alan Alda all won trophies during the series.
