The Arrowverse was the DC(E)U before the DC(E)U even existed. This interconnected TV universe began with Arrow, centering on Green Arrow, and laid the foundation for a series of high-profile superhero shows, including The Flash. The franchise gained significant popularity, with Arrow and The Flash leading the way.
Stephen Amell played Oliver Queen in what many consider his standout role. The character’s popularity led fans to call for a solo movie and his inclusion in the main Dceu, which could have been a major moment for world-building.
However, these plans never came to fruition. The Arrowverse was eventually wrapped up, and the Dceu shifted its focus. In a recent interview, Stephen Amell expressed his desire to see Arrow return and revealed that a Green Arrow movie was pitched to Warner Bros. Stay tuned to find out what happened!

The Arrowverse was the DC(E)U before the DC(E)U. It was a coherent television universe that connected several series, with Arrow, focusing on Green Arrow, being the show that kickstarted it all. Several high-profile superhero shows were made later and the whole franchise became exceptionally popular, especially Arrow and The Flash.
As for Oliver Queen, he was played by Stephen Amell in his – arguably – best and most important role. Amell’s character was so popular at one point that the fans demanded a solo movie, as well as his inclusion into the then-main Dceu, which would have been an epic moment in terms of world-building.
But nothing happened, as you know, and the Arrowverse chapter has since been closed, with the Dcu moving in a different direction. In a recent interview, though, Stephen Amell confirmed that he would like to see a revival of Arrow, but also...

Stephen Amell is very proud of the work he did in Arrow and has never shied away from sharing his belief that the Arrowverse wasn't given the respect it deserved by Warner Bros. executives.
The actor frequently campaigned for himself and his fellow actors on The CW to be part of the Dceu, something that was never the plan (no great surprise given the very clear line that the studio has always drawn between its big and small screen adaptations).
Catching up with Smallville alum Michael Rosenbaum, Amell reflected on working with prolific producer Greg Berlanti and talk soon turned to a possible Arrow revival.
"I mean I joked about it," he said, "because I think that it would be wonderful one these days to go back and do something that was in a medium where I could break bones and drop an F-bomb and just sort of go the 'hard R' [rating] version of Arrow.

Fans have been wondering whether the hero will end up getting his big-screen project as a result of the show's popularity. As it turns out, it almost happened years ago.

Before we had Dceu and Dcu we had Arrowverse, a long-running franchise on CW focusing on a selected group of DC superheroes. While entertaining, many shows that fell under CW’s banner were often treated like a memes, and were considered low-quality compared to other productions.
Many CW superhero shows had melodramatic and often cheesy dialogue, which sometimes led to unintentional humor. The shows embraced a more lighthearted, soap-opera-esque tone that made them easier to parody.
While impressive for TV at the time, the CGI and action sequences often fell short compared to big-budget superhero films. This disparity, especially in an era dominated by high-quality effects in MCU and Dceu movies, made certain scenes from CW shows easy targets for memes.
Despite these criticisms, the CW’s superhero shows were still beloved by many fans for their heart, character development, and willingness to embrace comic book lore in a way...

Now slated to anchor NBC’s Suits: L.A. spinoff, actor Stephen Amell had his sights set on a different offshoot show right before he auditioned for the Los Angeles lawyer role.
Amell revealed that he tried out for the role of a younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs character in NCIS: Origins just days before he auditioned for his Suits: L.A. character Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who started over in Los Angeles and built a legacy for himself. The role for the NCIS prequel went to Austin Stowell.
“My focus wasn’t on Suits L.A. Two auditions came in [that week]. One was via Zoom, and this audition for suits was actually in person, which I remember being incredibly excited about because I don’t remember the last time [that happened,” Amell told Michael Rosenbaum on a new episode of the latter’s Inside of You podcast.“My actual focus that week...

In the first season of Peacemaker, Christoper Smith (John Cena) took a shot at Green Arrow, saying, “That dude goes to brony conventions dressed as the back half of Twilight Sparkle with a four-inch wide butthole drilled into the costume.” While speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Green Arrow star Stephen Amell made it clear that he didn’t appreciate the cheap shot at a character he played for a decade.
“That was a little unnecessary. I didn’t f***ing appreciate that at all,” Amell said. “Between the movies and Peacemaker a little bit… our show was kind of treated like shit. I get it, we’re on the CW, I get it, it’s TV. But I also get the face that when people think about the most recent iteration of DC, they don’t think about the Snyder Cut, they think about the Arrowverse. We got crapped on for years,...

"Peacemaker" was a breath of fresh air to the DC Expanded Universe when it debuted, a fun, funny, and heartfelt superhero show that was both intimate and had high stakes. It was also a show with hilarious references to the rest of the DC world, like jokes about Aquaman and Green Arrow. In the season one finale, Peacemaker says that the hero of Star City "goes to brony conventions dressed as the back half of Twilight sparkling with a four-inch wide butthole drilled into the costume." It was funny in the context of that show, but one person who did not enjoy the joke was "Arrow" star Stephen Amell.
Speaking on the Insight podcast with Chris Van Vliet, Amell was candid about his opinions on "Peacemaker" and the show's joke about Green Arrow. "That was a little unnecessary. I didn't f***ing appreciate that at all," the actor said. "Between...

Stephen Amell’s Heels finds a new home on Netflix after the show was unfortunately canceled by Starz in 2023 just after two seasons. This already promised a possibility that the project could be revived, and with the actor’s latest update, it seemingly looks like there is a huge chance.

Best Limited Series, Best Movie/Limited Writing, Best Movie/Limited Actor: Richard Gadd, “Baby Reindeer”

Prolific writer, director and producer Greg Berlanti spoke of his personal journey and lifelong love of television when receiving the 2024 Governors Award at the Emmy Awards.
“I wanted to be a part of television even before I knew how that was possible,” the 52-year-old showrunner, one of the youngest individual recipients of the award, said in his emotional speech. “So many Gen X kids in the 70s and 80s, the one color TV our family could afford was on around the clock in our house, and I watched and loved all of it.”

The aptly titled Tulsa King Season 2 premiere finds Dwight “The General” Manfredi back in the saddle, alright.
He’s fighting for his life, giving advice behind bars, and expanding his business, all while navigating new enemies poised to take action to either scuttle or take over his successful Tulsa operation.
Don’t get me wrong; I know he’ll prevail. What’s the point of a show with Sly Stallone behind bars? But still, Dwight’s got a lot on his plate.
(Brian Douglas/Paramount+) Are The Walls Closing in on Dwight?
Thanks to his arrest, it’s the first time anyone has paid attention to Dwight’s Tulsa presence, making things much harder on The General.
Maybe that’s why he constantly toys with the idea of going legit. It’s got to be hard to thrive with that kind of stress. There is always someone out to get him.

Stephen Amell has frequently spoken candidly about how he feels the Arrowverse wasn't given the respect it deserved by Warner Bros. The Arrowverse was truly an astounding piece of television storytelling, a daring experiment that set the standard for how to do interconnected universes on TV, and for how to bring DC heroes to the small screen in live-action. This vital part of TV history came about as superheroes were dominating the big screen and departed just as superhero media ceased to be a surefire bet.
Even today, the Arrowverse remains something special, a universe filled with shows of different tones and approaches. Before the Netflix Marvel series tried to distinguish one another with different color filters, the Arrowverse got started with the "Batman Begins"-esque "Arrow" — a show with many ups and downs, but an unquestionable legacy. After that came the silly and soapy superhero saga that is "The Flash" (which explored the multiverse years before the concept came to dominate the superhero genre), the progressive and idealistic "Supergirl," the noir-inspired "Batwoman,...

While remakes are a longstanding tradition in the horror genre, 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ushered in a decade-dominating trend of reinventing classic genre properties for the new millennium. Hoping to replicate the success of Texas Chainsaw, production company Platinum Dunes re-teamed with director Marcus Nispel for a contemporary take on Friday the 13th in 2009.
Like many of the best remakes, Friday the 13th doesn’t recycle the same plot and characters from the 1980 film. But then, Tom Cruise seemingly made Stephen Amell hold his popcorn, after performing a next-level stunt at 53, in his 2015 movie Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Dangling from a pole, crunching up to kick, and then flipping out like he’s been warming up, Cruise’s pole dance made even the most seasoned stunt performers question their life choices.

Green Arrow is one of DC's most legendary superheroes. A member of the Justice League and one of the brand's most long-standing characters, Oliver Queen has been protecting Star City - and the world - since 1941. In recent years, he's more well-known to TV audiences due to the success of his small screen adaptations in both Smallville and Arrow.
The second of those spawned an entire franchise, with The CW's Arrowverse becoming one of the most successful superhero shared universes the live-action medium has seen. And it all started with a darker, broodier Emerald Archer who was praised for his more grounded adaptation. It was a game-changer, but it also strayed from the source material quite a bit - particularly the character's early stories.
Green Arrow's early stories highlight how fun he is
While Green Arrow's more mature adaptations have been great, his classic self is one of DC's most light hearted and fun characters.

Greg Berlanti, the superhero mastermind behind the Arrowverse, turned up the dial with a hands-on superhero boot camp. But guess what? Not every hero can save the day, even with Berlanti’s magic wand. Despite his epic successes with The Flash and Supergirl, one ambitious Arrowverse show didn’t quite zap into success.

Berlanti’s boot camp was all about crafting epic villains and unforgettable stories, but sometimes even the best planes don’t fly. It’s a wild ride behind the scenes, proving that even comic book legends can stumble. Buckle up and check out the tale of Berlanti’s superhero adventure that missed the mark!

4K is about to get a lot darker – no, not literally, don’t worry about that. Arrow Video has announced their November slate of 4K releases and a number of worthwhile entries that fit the horror and thriller bill, including Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, 2007’s The Invasion and Sam Raimi’s A Simple Plan.
Each of these entries – in addition to 1986’s At Close Range and manga adaptation Tomie – are getting upgrades this fall courtesy of Arrow, who has made a name for themselves as one of the premiere outlets for such presentations. Let’s take a look at some specs:
These Arrow 4K releases of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, The Invasion and A Simple Plan will all have Dolby Vision/Hdr presentations, bringing the movies into your homes like they never have been before. And each is undoubtedly worth a rediscovery. The Elvira character has always had...

Throughout its run, the Arrowverse amounted to a total of 699 episodes, which aired across 37 seasons of television, ranging from good to bad and sometimes ugly in terms of quality. Similar was the case with the superhero suits, as while we had some gems with Deathstroke and Flash’s outfits, there were also a healthy number of suits, which didn’t translate well onscreen.

Greg Berlanti was responsible for the sprawling superhero universe that was created over at CW. While the producer did not have access to heavy hitters in the Justice League like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, Berlanti was successful in carving out a universe that was as rich as it was diverse, with characters like The Flash, Supergirl, and Green Arrow.

Berlanti talked to IndieWire about how making these shows trained him for his next venture in CW’s superhero sandbox, which, during the interview, was Black Lightning. Given that the producer prepared a lot for Black Lightning, it was ironic that it became one of the worst-performing shows in CW’s superhero lineup.

The Flash was a spin-off of the 2012 show, Arrow and a part of the same fictional universe, called the Arrowverse. The show premiered on 7 October 2014 and ran for nine seasons until 24 May 2023. It received a positive response from the audience and even won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama in 2014.
Most fans don’t know that it was originally supposed to be a backdoor pilot, but Grant Gustin’s positive reception by the audience sealed the deal. The actor appeared twice on Arrow and his portrayal of Barry Allen won the audience over. Another aspect that got him the role was Gustin’s chemistry with actress Emily Bett Rickards aka, Felicity. The creators wanted to explore the pair and their possible romance inspired an entire show.

The Exchange is handling worldwide sales and will introduce the project to buyers at the Toronto Film Festival.
Set on location in the exotic Canary Islands, the film centers on the mysterious disappearance of American surfer Isabelle Gray. Although Isabelle is presumed drowned, her grief-stricken sister Katherine refuses to leave the country without answers, soon discovering that her sibling wasn’t the only woman to vanish into the ocean without a trace. With little help from local authorities, a stubborn and resourceful Katherine uncovers a string of progressively frightening clues, eventually leading her right into the jaws of an ancient ritualistic evil.
Colin McNeil and Daniel Minsky wrote the script. Joel Shapiro of magiCity Studios is producing along with Dimitri Logothetis of Acme Rocket Fuel, with Lee Broda serving as executive producer. Pre-production in the Canary Islands is underway.
Stated Nat McCormick, The Exchange’s President of Worldwide Sales & Distribution, “The Drowning Pool is a fresh and thrilling adventure story set in a dreamy vacation location, with a renowned international cast. We look forward to taking the plunge with our distribution partners around the world!”
An Australian actress who broke out stateside with a role in Netflix’s Emmy-winning series Orange Is the New Black, Rose has since then been seen starring in the first season of The CW’s Batwoman, also appearing on shows like Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Notable feature credits include Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, John Wick: Chapter 2, Pitch Perfect 3 and The Meg, to name just a few.
Best known for helming the fifth installment in the Saw horror franchise, Hackl also directed the action thriller Dangerous starring Scott Eastwood; the Gina Carano-led Daughter of the Wolf; Life on the Line, starring John Travolta, Kate Bosworth and Devon Sawa; and genre-bender Into the Grizzly Maze.

For a brief time in its history, the CW was the crown jewel of cable TV. While not the creme de la creme of television shows, the network was able to retain a large online fandom, regardless of what ratings were behind the shows that they put up. With popular shows like Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, and The Arrowverse, CW dominated prime-time shows catering to a teen audience, never missing the mark.

The Dead Boy Detectives have been sent to the afterlife prematurely.
Despite positive reviews (92% on Rotten Tomatoes) and strong viewership (at least initially), Variety reports that Netflix's supernatural mystery series has been cancelled after just a single season.
The show - which is set in the same universe as The Sandman - got off to a strong start, managing to stay in the Netflix Top 10 English TV charts for three weeks after its release. It racked-up just 3.1 million views in its first three days of availability (Netflix defines a view as total series runtime divided by total hours viewed) before climbing to 4.7 million. It then dropped to just 1.8 million views in week three before falling off the Top 10 chart.

The Night Nurse may not have been able to drag the Dead Boy Detectives out of the world of the living, but Netflix could. The streamer has canceled their adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comics after just one season, TheWrap has learned.
The series starred Jayden Revri and George Rexstrew as Charles Rowland and Edwin Payne respectively, a pair of teenagers who were both killed unexpectedly. When they meet in the afterlife, they quickly become best friends and decide to team up to form a detective agency, which gives both the comics that served as the inspiration and the show itself its title.
Together, the ghosts solve supernatural mysteries that only they are capable of solving. The thing is, they aren’t supposed to hang around the world of the living. Because Edwin was technically a sacrifice (mostly unintentionally), he’s supposed to reside in hell. Both boys are on...

Greg Berlanti will receive the 2024 Governors Award, the Television Academy announced on Thursday. The award, which he will take home at the 76th Emmy Awards on Sept. 15, is in recognition of his contributions to television since he got his start as a staff writer on “Dawson’s Creek” in 1998.
Among the 45 TV series that Berlanti has since created, written or exec-produced (or some combination of all three) are “Brothers and Sisters,” “Dirty Sexy Money,” “Arrow,” “Blindspot,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Everwood,” “You,” “Titans,” “Riverdale,” “Doom Patrol,” “All American” and “Found.” His work often centers members of the LGBTQ+ community. “Dawson’s Creek” featured the first same-sex kiss between two men on American network television, for instance, and his fall NBC series “Brilliant Minds” has the first single gay lead in an American medical drama.
One of his more recent projects, “Red, White and Royal Blue,” earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie in July.

Sure, there are unlikable characters, evil and irredeemable characters, and controversial characters…
And then there are characters so badly written you must assume it’s done simply out of spite. Did something behind the scenes turn the writing room against the actor?
(Netflix)
Or, in the case of some of our picks, did the writers use the character as a scapegoat for all they hated about the world? Compiling this list was challenging because some annoying characters on TV were written that way for a purpose.
We can usually explain away a lot when a character disappoints us, but the TV characters who made our list took things too far. Sadly, it wasn’t their fault; it was the writing Gods manipulating them. Let’s consider 11 characters the writers must have hated.

CBS' Fall TV slate will boast a new reality action-adventure competition in The Summit. Set in the New Zealand Alps, the series is not for the faint of heart but that's to be expected from a program set to air its first season after Survivor--the network's longest running unscripted programming in this genre.
The Summit takes 16 strangers and throws them together in what CBS is calling a "once-in-a-lifetime journey" as they do their best to reach the peak of the mountain before them. Host Manu Bennett told Jeff Probst, in a Conversations Between Stars interview, that the contestants were under the impression that they were going to be doing a treasure hunt.
