The first Tyler Perry series under his overall deal with Netflix officially has a release date! On Sept. 12, Netflix announced that Perry's debut series with the streamer, Tyler Perry's Beauty in Black, will be released on Thursday, Oct. 24. Along with the release date announcement, the streamer also dropped the first teaser trailer for the show, and it's sure to be one of fall's biggest hits!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beauty in Black's release date on Oct. 24 will be the first of a two-part drop for the series. Now, fans have definitely soured on Netflix's recent tendency to split the releases of show into two parts, but there's good news here before you get too worked up. The first season of Beauty in Black contains 16 episodes, which means part 1 will likely have eight episodes.

Tyler Perry might be known for the ‘Madea’ film series and similarly clownish comedies, but lately, the filmmaker has been leaning towards more serious work and dramas. Following 2022’s “A Jazzman’s Blues,” Perry’s directed three films that will have come out before 2024 is over: the legal thriller “Mea Culpa,” the drama thriller “Divorce In Black” and now, the WWII drama “The Six Triple Eight.”

Tyler Perry’s cottage industry of films obviously includes the comedic “Madea” films, but as he’s suggested in recent years, that’s not all he’s made of, and he wants to be known for much more. Perhaps that trend started with Netflix’s “A Jazzman’s Blues” in 2022 and continues in a more serious vein with his latest film, “Tyler Perry’s Divorce In The Black.”

The Ides of March were marked this year by a three-way race among high profile filmmakers – Peter Farrelly, Doug Liman and Guy Ritchie – with original streaming film and TV series debuts across Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. But the sleeper success story of the week belonged to Netflix’s Lindsay Lohan rom com movie “Irish Wish.”
Ritchie made a splashy debut on March 7 with Netflix’s “The Gentlemen,” an eight-episode TV heist drama delivered in the director’s signature style. In its second week, “Gentlemen” had solid hold with a modest 30% decline to 1.3 billion minutes watched during the March 15-21 frame, according to original streaming content ratings calculated by Luminate.

Netflix is doubling down on its commitment to the ever-busy Tyler Perry.

The news comes some four months after Perry revealed his first-look film deal with the service, which has him writing, directing and producing features including the upcoming World War II period film Six Triple Eight, starring Kerry Washington, and legal drama Mea Culpa, fronted by Kelly Rowland. "Please - this is my life and they're trying to ruin me." Netflix has revealed the full official trailer for Tyler Perry's next film titled Mea Culpa, about a defense attorney's steamy affair. Set for streaming on Netflix starting in February, where Perry still has a deal and has been releasing most of recent films - including A Jazzman's Blues before this one. A criminal defense attorney takes on the case of a seductive artist accused of murdering his girlfriend, but when burning desire takes hold things get hot... and dangerous. Starring Kelly Rowland as Mea Harper, with Trevante Rhodes, Nick Sagar, Sean Sagar, RonReaco Lee, and Shannon Thornton. The tagline should just be "everyone is guilty of something", which is a strange way to deal with injustice but hey maybe it makes for some steady movies. So many good lines in here: "a snake is never violent when stalking their prey.

Shonda Rhimes, creator of “Bridgerton” and the upcoming prequel series “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” is known for creating powerful screen stories that center women and a diverse range of characters of all gender, racial, ethnic and sexual identities.
But, as Rhimes began to focus on ensuring her Shondaland productions were equally diverse behind the scenes, she came to recognize a key role in that mission: the line producer.
“You look around the set and it’s great to have a Black director or a Black writer and Black actors and then the entire crew doesn’t really represent America or the world,” Rhimes said in a virtual symposium with Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria, chairman of Netflix films Scott Stuber, filmmaker Tyler Perry and researcher Dr. Stacy Smith. “If you have a line producer who is on board with what you are feeling, then your crew is completely different.

With over a decade at one of the most successful independent studios under her belt, Michelle Sneed is striking out on her own.
The Tyler Perry Studios alum, who most recently served as president of the sprawling and prolific Atlanta operation since 2018, just launched a new studio. A Few Good Women Productions is targeting a first-of-its kind model, with an exclusively female leadership offering green lights and maintaining project autonomy through every phase — acquisition, development, financing, production, licensing and distribution.
“One thing that I’ve always said is, ‘Why do big studios get to have lot of fun?’ — and by ‘fun’ I mean majority ownership of these assets,” says Sneed, who wants to see that money trickle down not to just partners and creators but budgets. “I have dedicated my career mostly to Black and brown content. And I’d say that about 99 percent of the time it’s been on extremely small budgets.

Queen Latifah hosted the proceedings, which honored the best in Black entertainment for the proceeding year. Will Smith won the NAACP Image Award for outstanding actor in a motion picture for his performance in “Emancipation” on Saturday night, marking his first award win since his infamous incident at the 2022 Oscars in which he slapped Chris Rock onstage.
Smith was not present at the ceremony to accept his award in person.
Set in 19th century Louisiana, Smith portrays a runaway slave who embarks on a treacherous journey to Baton Rouge while thwarting off violent plantation owners. “Emancipation” was inspired by an 1863 photograph known as “Whipped Peter,” which depicts a once-enslaved individual with severe lacerations on his back. The image’s circulation placed the brutality of slavery in front of the eyes of the American public.
After initially delaying “Emancipation” following Smith’s incident at the Oscars, Apple TV+ pivoted to positioning the historical drama as an awards season contender, releasing the film in October. Smith, who doubled...
