Exclusive: Mike Tollin, executive producer of Emmy-winning The Last Dance, today announced the launch of Mtp, a re-branding and restructuring of his Mike Tollin Productions, with a focus on expanded content.
The announcement follows the premiere last month of his six-episode docuseries Justice, USA on Max.
Under the re-brand, sports will remain a major component of Mtp’s content expansion, and has allowed Tollin to bring on new talent and reorganize the company structure. Jonathan Vogler has been elevated to President of Unscripted Productions and Ricky Cruz has been brought on as VP/Development. On the scripted side, Harry Wood is now VP Development and Sarah Alammuri has joined as Director/Development. Steve Tollin remains Director of Finance.
“I love the new team,” said Tollin. “They’re passionate and scrappy. Sports will continue to be our main lane, but we’ll follow the side streets as often as possible to tell stories with pro-social content.

Particularly in light of his recent output, it's hard to think of a more remarkable career than that of Nicolas Cage. The man has had insanely high highs such as his Oscar-winning performance in "Leaving Las Vegas" and his starring role in blockbuster hits like "National Treasure." He's played a Marvel Comics superhero (Ghost Rider), he's starred in more direct-to-video movies than anyone can possibly recall, and he's turned in some legendarily wacky performances (see: "Vampire's Kiss"). He even battled himself in the summer of 1997.
The point is, Cage has had an amazing career that has recently revived itself in a huge way as of late thanks to stellar performances in movies like "Pig" and "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent." Yet,...

January Jones took aim at virtual auditions on Saturday, writing on her Instagram story, “Note to Hollywood: It’s time for casting directors to come back into the office like everyone else. To audition actors in person.”
The “Mad Men” star continued, “And if anyone asks for a Fee to audition please know that this is criminal and Pathetic. I personally have had to self tape several times since the pandemic began and there is zero benefit to it for anyone involved. It’s time consuming, expensive, and a drag to whomever you have to drag in to read with you (sorry Mom), and is often done with zero direction/notes.”
Since the pandemic, self-tapes have remained a common way for actors to audition for roles, rather than auditioning live in front of casting directors.

“Justice,” the final episode in Hulu’s “The 1619 Project” docuseries, argues that the federal government owes 14 trillion to the descendants of enslaved Black people.
Nikole Hannah-Jones, the creator of the series, calculates the federal government owes the 4 million Black Americans whose ancestors were enslaved 350,000. She argues these reparations — made in the form of land and money — are a way to address the unequal wealth distribution, redlining and other institutional practices that harmed Blacks for decades. And she has the statistics to back it up.
“When I constructed the essay, it was a benefit having every possible objection to reparations and every possible excuse as to why we can’t do it or we shouldn’t do it. For me, the answers are in the data,” Hannah-Jones explained. “I already know the objections that are formulating in your mind so I’m going to set them all up and I...

“As you know, I’ve been on the Justice tour,” he said. “Our goal with this album and this tour was to share the message of unity and equality and the message of justice.
“You know racial injustice and racism has been an issue for a very long time and one thing that you and I get to do is we get to be the difference makers and stay with our brothers and sisters.

Netflix is about to remove a alrge selection of movies and TV shows from its service.
Every month, without fanfare, numerous titles are removed from the streamer.
This means that, should something be on your watchlist, it will vanish until it’s added again.
Netflix doesn’t publicise the titles it will remove – and users will only be alerted to something’s imminent removal if they happen to select the title in question.
But, with help from the team at What’s on Netflix, we’ve compiled the full list – and you can find the compilation of everything being added this month here.

Taylor Swift came under fire when a marketing firm called Yard published a list ranking celebrities based on their private-jet usage in a July 29 report. Using data from a Twitter account called Celebrity Jets that borrows insights from a reservoir of flight information called Ads-b Exchange, the outlet found that Swift had used her private jet more than any other celebrity in 2022, taking a total of 170 flights so far this year. Per the study, Swift's plane spent 22,923 minutes in the air since January, with an average flight time of 80 minutes, which is approximately 1,185 times the number of carbon emissions of an average person.
Shortly after the list was unveiled, Swift's reps offered an explanation for her seemingly extreme usage. "Taylor's jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals," they said in a statement to Today shared on July 30. "To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.

Taylor Swift, Common, Seth Meyers and cast and crew including Al Pacino and Robert De Niro reuniting to talk about Michael Mann’s Heat are a few of the headliners confirmed for the Tribeca Festival’s Talks and Reunions lineup.
The festival will run from June 8-19 — a later slot than its longtime April-May home and a holdover from last year’s edition, a Covid comeback held largely at outdoor venues.
Swift made a splash as a filmmaker in 2021, directing, writing, producing and starring in the short film All Too Well, which went with an expanded new version of the song of the same title from her album Red. The 2012 album was re-recorded and released last fall.

The story centers on a day that starts out like any other, full of small hostilities, self-doubt, moments of tenderness, and the other quotidian battles and joys that comprise a normal day in the big city. But on this day, perhaps the most significant scientific revelation in human history takes place, and the discovery will affect the everyday life of each member of the family in a different way.

When the Grammy nominations were announced on November 23, Olivia Rodrigo earned seven nominations including Album of the Year (“Sour”), Record of the Year and Song of the Year (“Drivers License”), and Best New Artist. That makes her only the 13th artist in Grammy history to earn all four of those nominations in the same year. But guess what, Finneas is the 14th … kind of.
We were surprised by Rodrigo’s dominance in the top four categories. Going into the nominations we were predicting her to win all four, which only two other artists have ever done before: Christopher Cross (1981) and Billie Eilish (2020). But just getting nominated for all four is a good omen. Consider the list of 12 artists who previously accomplished the feat:

The Weeknd is so good that he can earn Grammy nominations without even trying … literally. He vowed never to submit his music for Grammy consideration again after his shocking shutout from the nominations last year. But he nevertheless picked up three bids when the 2022 nominations were announced on November 23. How did that happen?
The answer is pretty simple. While The Weeknd declined to submit his own music for consideration, that didn’t stop other artists from submitting their collaborations with him. And that’s where all three of his nominations came from. He’s up for Best Melodic Rap Performance for Kanye West‘s “Hurricane.” That song’s parent album, “Donda,” received an Album of the Year bid, so The Weeknd is nominated there as well as a featured artist. And he has one more Album of the Year nomination as a featured artist on Doja Cat‘s “Planet Her.

We were surprised on Grammy nominations morning on November 23 when it was announced that there would be 10 nominees in each of the general field categories instead of eight as has been the case in recent years. But even with the expanded lineups, you can always count on the recording academy to deliver surprises. Out of the 40 nominations across Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist, there were 15 our odds didn’t foretell. Scroll down to see what those surprises were.

If you’d asked before Grammy nominations morning who the top contender would be, few would have guessed Jon Batiste would rack up a leading 11 bids across categories in myriad genres. But he did indeed dominate the field, from Album of the Year (“We Are”) all the way down to Best Improvised Jazz Solo (“Bigger Than Us”). Check out the list of Grammy nominations here.
A recent Oscar winner for composing the “Soul” score with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (for which they’re also nominated here), Batiste’s nominations this year also include Record of the Year (“Freedom”), Best Traditional R&b Performance (“I Need You”), Best R&b Album (“We Are”), Best Jazz Instrumental Album (“Jazz Selections: Music from and Inspired by Soul”), Best American Roots Performance (“Cry”), Best American Roots Song (“Cry”), Best Contemporary Classical Composition (“Batiste: Movement 11”), and Best Music Video (“Freedom”) — whew! For many music fans and insiders, critiquing the Grammy nominations is an annual pastime. And each year, the Academy seems to find new and interesting ways to wind up observers. When the 2021 nominations dropped last year, the main knock was a complete shutout for the Weeknd. This time around, the issues are a little more complex. There are some noteworthy omissions among the 2022 field — no women in any of the rock categories; no Spanish-language or West African artists in any of the majors — but more concerning than who was left out is who was included.

Nominees for the 63rd annual Grammy Awards were announced Tuesday and they include Billie Eilish, Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo. Top honors went out to Jon Baptiste who earned a total of 11 nominations.
The reveal by the Recording Academy came as the organization expanded the lists of nominees to 10 in marquee categories Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.
Among the nominees, Eilish returns with seven nominees — the same number she swept wins for in 2020. Batiste, who is known for his role on CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, scored the most noms today after coming off an Oscar Score win earlier this year for Soul alongside Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
The Grammys return to Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena (fka Staples Center) on January 31, 2022, and will broadcast live on CBS and stream live and on-demand on Paramount+ at 8-11:30 p.

The Grammy Awards have launched a different procedure for selecting their nominees this year — going with a popular vote and eliminating the controversial “secret committees” that had curated the final lists in recent decades — and although many of the top nominees were expected, the top one definitely was not.
Jon Batiste — veteran jazz keyboardist, musical director of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and a member of one of New Orleans’ legendary musical dynasties — leads the nominees with 11, mostly for his “We Are” album, but also for his “Soul” film score. While “We Are” peaked at just No. 86 on the Billboard 200, its huge number of nominations speak to its multi-genre appeal, his familiarity to Academy voters via “Colbert” (and a cosign from Grammy legend Quincy Jones), and most of all his musicianship.
Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and H.E.R. follow with eight nominations each, and Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo are close behind with seven.

There were major changes in how these nominees were decided. Chief among those was the elimination of the nomination review committees. For decades those committees would take the top 15 or 20 vote-getters in their categories and decide which would be the final nominees. Those secret, anonymous panels often produced surprising results: this past year The Weeknd was shut out entirely. He decided to boycott the awards, joining in a chorus of music stars who have criticized the voting process. Some of the criticisms even came from inside the house,...

Pop is always a stacked genre, but the race this year at the American Music Awards might be stronger than ever. Everyone — from big established artists like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and The Weeknd, to newer artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat — is on the hunt to pick up one or two awards to add to their shelves. Let’s consider who’s most likely to prevail.
Favorite Male Pop Artist
A win for Justin Bieber is more than likely here. Not only does he have a big fan base, he has also had one of his strongest years ever thanks to the success of his album “Justice” and the number-one singles “Peaches” and “Stay.” If an upset happens, it could be Lil Nas X, who has also had a successful year with his own hit album “Montero” and number-one singles “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” and “Industry Baby.

Amid the questions about what Grammy categories Halsey belongs in with her increasingly alternative-leaning music, there’s at least one division where she’ll likely be in contention that cuts across all genres: best music film. She starred in and wrote “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power,” a 50-minute film that premiered in IMAX theaters Aug. 26 and had its streaming bow on HBO Max Oct. 7. The movie tells a narrative about a expectant queen who falls afoul of her country’s ruling class, with plenty of interstitial silences — pregnant pauses, if you will — and a few bits of dialogue to further set apart a highly ambitious project that had Halsey’s own second-term pregnancy as both a challenge and a boon in filming.

We had a genre-changing Batman: The Animated Series, the deep and socially relevant X-Men: The Animated Series, and two expanded cartoon universes that came out of each one. One was Dial M for Monkey, where it turned out Dexter’s lab monkey was secretly superpowered and spent his time fighting world-threatening enemies behind Dexter’s back. The other was the Justice Friends,...

Three years ago today, Justice League hit theaters, and yet the story is still not complete. To mark the anniversary, filmmaker Zack Snyder has unveiled a new black-and-white trailer for his cut of Justice League, which will appear in four one-hour episodes on HBO Max next year. Snyder also celebrated by holding a trailer breakdown session to dive deeper into his process.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League comes after years of fan campaigning for the filmmaker to be allowed to complete his vision after stepping away from the project in May 2017 following a family tragedy. Director Joss Whedon stepped in to complete Justice ...

Exclusive: Game Show Network has set Leah Remini to host People Puzzler, a new game show that takes inspiration from the celebrity magazine’s crossword puzzles. It will premiere in early 2021, reps told Deadline.
The half-hour episodes will see three contestants test their pop culture savvy to complete the magazine’s crossword puzzles. The first to finish the puzzle will move on to the show’s Fast Puzzle Bonus Round for the chance to win a cash prize.
The new Game Show Network program marks another hosting gig for the Emmy-nominated Remini.
In January the actress and writer signed a first-look deal with Critical Content to develop more unscripted programming through her No Seriously production company. The first project under the new deal is Seeking Justice, with Remini and her Scientology and the Aftermath partner Mike Rinder teaming for the anthology docuseries. Seeking Justice aims to investigate and hold other...

The band formerly known as the Dixie Chicks cannot catch a break. Nearly two decades after the George W. Bush roast heard ‘round the world and the Chicks’ subsequent exile from Nashville, the bestselling Texas trio still have a bone to pick on Gaslighter, the group’s first studio release in nearly 15 years and its most pop-sounding record to date.
Still, the Chicks are ready to speak the thorny truth once more. This time, the conflict is coming from inside the house: Much of Gaslighter is centered on Natalie Maines...

We’ve been waiting for the longest time for it, but The Flash movie is definitely on its way. As teased by Justice League, which featured Barry Allen’s dad Henry in prison after being convicted of murdering his wife, the film seems set to explore the Flashpoint comic book arc, which starts with the Scarlet Speedster going back in time and stopping Reverse-Flash from killing his mother.
Eobard Thawne must be coming, then, as it’d be hard to adapt the story without him. We don’t know anything yet about how the Dceu will portray the character, but this epic fan poster teases the villain’s ominous presence. Digital artist Boss Logic has started designing teaser posters for upcoming or imaginary DC movies – see his one for a Man of Steel sequel featuring Brainiac and in this piece, he uses the visual of a bullet breaking glass to...

A timely interview gives some credence to some recent rumors. The gossip of late? That Warner Bros. is developing a new “Constantine” film or sequel is in the works and possibly with Keanu Reeves (the rumor being they want him, but who knows if they can get him). The adjunct talk is that “Constantine” character falls under the “Justice League Dark” umbrella, which is currently being handled by J.J.

Adaptations of DC comics are faring much better on TV than they are on the big screen, and Doom Patrol’s endless quirkiness marks it as one of the most interesting. Diane Guerrero, who plays the dissociative identity disorder-afflicted Crazy Jane on the series and is one of its highlights, has now put herself forward to play Jessica Cruz whenever DC actually manage to get another live action Green Lantern up and running.
During a Doom Patrol Twitter Q&a session, Guerrero was asked which DC character she would choose to play, with her answer being quite emphatic.
Jessica Cruz, Green Lantern! That's my next DC character, just to put it out there…
