As Adam Sandler breaks out the clubs to return to the gentleman’s game of golf for the upcoming sequel Happy Gilmore 2, the Blu-ray label Kino Lorber will be bringing the original film to you in glorious 4K imagery. Blu-ray.com has announced the news of the 1996 film’s remastering. Happy Gilmore stars Sandler along with Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Frances Bay, and the late, great Carl Weathers. There has not been a firm release date announced. However, the 4K release is expected to hit retailers sometime early next year. It will likely coincide with the release of Netflix’s sequel.
The description reads,
“All Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) has ever wanted is to be a professional hockey player. But he soon discovers he may actually have a talent for playing an entirely different sport: golf. When his grandmother (Frances Bay) learns she is about to lose her home,...

Who’s ready to hit the links with one of the most aggressive golfers in the sport’s cinematic history? Happy Gilmore 2 is officially in production, and there’s no telling what awaits the hockey-goon-turned-pro-golfer. Netflix announced the start of Happy Gilmore 2’s production this afternoon with a photo of Happy’s iconic Boston Bruins jersey alongside other outfits from the film’s wardrobe department.

What the heck is Make Joke From Face — besides the name of Nick Swardson’s new stand-up special on YouTube?
“It’s just an idiotic thing that me and my friend Chris would always say,” Swardson tells me. “My running thing with my specials is I don’t take them seriously in terms of naming them. My first hour special was called Seriously, Who Farted? The network was like, ‘Oh, that’s funny. But seriously, what are you going to call it?’”
Swardson’s the kind of comic who wants to get nominated for an award — Oscar or Razzie, it doesn’t matter — just so someone could stand at a podium, read a list of nominees and then conclude with “Seriously, Who Farted?”
“Comedy should just be absurd,” Swardson says. “It’s silly. I feel like people forget that.”

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Snakes on a Plane was Written and Narrated by Mike Holtz, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
When you go back and take a look at the movies that were released in 2006, you might think we were all high. I mean some of us were but regardless, everything was so over the top. Eli Roth’s Hostel was tearing off tourists’ clothes while slashing their Achilles’, The Hills Have Eyes remake was gnarly in every way and does anybody remember that really cool but super weird Paul Walker flick Running Scared? We were on some dark stuff back in the mid-2000s. It wasn’t just the horror and action genres, either. Comedies like Grandma’s Boy had a level of wildness to them that you don’t see these days.

Update: It looks like Christopher McDonald was right about Adam Sandler working on the script for Happy Gilmore. Sandler’s fave co-star and longtime pal Drew Barrymore confirmed, in a clip from today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, that the sequel is indeed happening. “I want it. I need it. And I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison,” says Barrymore, adding later, “I’ll just say this, from my source, that it is in process.”
Barrymore famously starred with Sandler in three movies, The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates and Blended. The two have remained close over the years, with Sandman frequently turning up on her show. While he’s mostly focused on drama recently, including the recent Netflix film Spaceman, Happy Gilmore 2 would likely be warmly received by fans, especially if co-stars Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen return.

The film, about two BFFs who’ve always dreamed of having the most epic bat mitzvahs, was produced by Sandler, and stars the actor alongside daughters Sadie and Sunny, as well as his wife Jackie.
Following its release, the movie has broken the record for Sandler’s top-scoring film on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 96 percent rating.
That beats out “Hustle”, which previously held the record at 93 per cent, and is ahead of “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)” at 92, “Uncut Gems” at 91 and “Punch-Drunk Love” at 77.

Adam Sandler drew raves for his performance in “Uncut Gems,” but his latest Netflix movie, “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,” has so far gotten even better critics’ reviews, as well as raves for his youngest daughter, Sunny.
As of Monday afternoon, the family comedy, which co-stars his daughters, had a 96% positive ratings from critics, while the 2019 Safdie Brothers drama sits at 91%.
Audiences, at 66% positive, were less gung-ho about the Sammi Cohen-directed comedy, which premiered Aug. 25 on the streamer.
Critics are saying, essentially, “hurrah for nepotism” about Sandler’s daughter Sunny, who stars as Stacy Friedman who clashes with her Bff (Samantha Lorraine) right before their respective bat mitzvahs.
Sunny’s real-life sister Sadie Sandler plays her older sister, Ronnie, while former “Saturday Night Live” regular who also produced,” plays their father in role with limited screen time. Jackie Sandler, their real mother, also appears in the film,...

While it was one of the most popular games in the UK during the 1970s and 80s, the cultural significance of bingo varies according to where you are on the globe. In some countries, it was used largely as a teaching tool, and in others, it’s very much associated with certain types of players.
It is these stereotypes and tropes that are often played on when bingo is shown on the silver screen or portrayed in television shows. This has led to some of the best scenes from some of the best-known movies, including:
Cocoon
As a classic of its time, Cocoon followed the story of a retirement community that has been infiltrated by aliens that are giving the residents a new lease on life. The protagonists, Joe, Ben, and Arthur, are swimming in the pool one day when they come across alien lifeforms that harbour the power to rejuvenate themselves.

Good news for those who wish to know what their Twitter feed’s jacking off to: the Criterion Channel are launching an erotic thriller series that includes De Palma’s Dressed to Kill and Body Double, the Wachowskis’ Bound, and so many other movies to stir up that ceaseless, fruitless “why do movies have sex scenes?” discourse. (Better or worse than middle-age film critics implying they have a hard-on? I’m so indignant at being forced to choose.) Similarly lurid, if not a bit more frightening, is a David Lynch retro that includes the Criterion editions of Lost Highway and Inland Empire (about which I spoke to Lynch last year), a series of shorts, and a one-month-only engagement for Dune, a film that should be there in perpetuity.

Do you know when the first movie premiere in Hollywood history was held?
On Oct. 18. 1922 Sid Grauman opened his movie palace the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Blvd. with superstar Douglas Fairbank’s latest swashbuckler “Robin Hood.” The red carpet was rolled out for Fairbanks, his wife Mary Pickford and their good friend (and partner in United Artists) Charlie Chaplin. It cost 5 to attend the premiere. And the movie, which was the top box office draw, played there exclusively for several months. The Egyptian cost 800,000 to build and took 18 months to complete for Grauman and real estate developer Charles E. Toberman. It is currently being renovated by Netflix in cooperation with the American Cinematheque.
“Robin Hood,” directed by Allan Dwan, was one of the most expensive movies of the silent era, costing just under 1 million. The castle was the biggest set ever made for a silent movie. Some scenes feature over 1,200 extras.

Spooky Season is in session on Hulu, as the streaming service is adding a ton of horror-themed content this month. But not to worry, there’s plenty of other non-spooky new movies and shows to watch, too.
In the horror realm, director David Bruckner’s new (and well-received) take on “Hellraiser” arrives on Oct. 7, while horror films ranging from “Annabelle: Creation” to “The ABCs of Death” to “Monster House” to “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” arrive throughout the month.
In decidedly non-scary new arrivals, the entire series of “Schitt’s Creek” comes to Hulu on Oct. 3 after streaming on Netflix for the last few years, while the Hulu original film “Rosaline” – which tells the “Romeo and Juliet” story from a different point of view – streams on Oct. 14.
Other noteworthy library titles include Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” on Oct. 25 and David Cronenberg’s “Crimes of the Future” on Oct. 31.

When the name of your streaming service so neatly fits into the word “Halloween,” you have a moral imperative to bring the goods come spooky season. Thankfully Hulu is abiding by that obligation with its list of new releases for October 2022.
Halloween…or rather Huluween is set to be a big deal for the streamer. This month sees a bevy of horror offerings. I did a double take when I saw the headline myself. Despite only launching a week ago, a not inconsiderable number of titles will be leaving HBO Max at the end of June. Logically, distribution contracts that were already running out weren’t going to stop running out just because Warner launched their new service, so you best get on these quick.
Here’s the list of all the movies leaving HBO Max on June 30th:
The Abyss
Akeelah and the Bee
American Wedding
An Ideal Husband
Arthur
Asylum
The Beverly Hillbillies
The Big Green
Blindspotting
Bye Bye, Love
Empire of the Sun
Glengarry Glen Ross

Shirley Knight, who was twice Oscar nominated for best supporting actress, for “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs” (1960) and “Sweet Bird of Youth” (1962), and won a Tony and three Emmys, died on Wednesday of natural causes in San Marcos, Texas. She was 83.
Her daughter, actress Kaitlin Hopkins, paid tribute to Knight in a lengthy Facebook post.

You know those real estate scams where you're offered a free vacation if you just sit through a time-share presentation and that time-share presentation seems never-ending, because even if it's just two hours, what you really wanted was a free vacation? For Adam Sandler, filmmaking is like that time-share presentation. All the guy wants is to get major motion picture studios to subsidize his vacations. Is that so wrong? If Sony or Warner Brothers said to you, "How would you like an all-expenses-paid trip to Hawaii or Africa or a secluded lake? And all you have to do is deliver a movie and nobody on our side will even ask to see a script or bother looking at the final cut," what would you say? You'd accept the deal. Don't deny it. It's obvious that Sandler and his partners-in-vacation-loving-crime don't especially enjoy the quid pro quo required for their global galavanting,...

Masturbation is still a bit of a taboo subject in our society, but that didn't stop one sex-toy store from marking May as National Masturbation Month in the mid-90s. No joke.
As the month of May comes to an end, HuffPost Entertainment would like to send it off with a mash-up dedicated to the self-loving deed: "Masturbation In Film." Cinema hasn't shied away from masturbation, whether it's the comedic ("Fast Times At Ridgemont High"), the tragic ("Black Swan") or the just plain weird ("Grandma's Boy"). While the mashup does not include all masturbation scenes, we tried to pay tribute to a handful of the best.

Hollywood seems intent on reviving popular '80s TV shows for the big screen these days, with varying degrees of success. Flicks like The A-Team and Miami Vice fell a bit flat, while ventures like Alvin & the Chipmunks (the first and second movies, anyway) actually lived up to the '80s TV series.
This week's release 21 Jump Street, thankfully, falls into the latter category. The big screen adaptation of the popular '80s cop show starring Johnny Depp is fast-paced, funny and even has a little heart. (And yes, Depp has a great cameo.) Stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum play well off of each other as the sensitive nerd and dumb beefcake, respectively.
As in the series, our two heroes are undercover cops based out of a run-down church on Jump Street. This time around, they get sent back to high school to infiltrate a deadly drug ring. This...

What the hell this is, it sounds awesome! Out of left field today via Deadline comes some casting news for an R-rated stop-motion animated comedy called Hell & Back, made by production company ShadowMachine Films. We don't see many of these, which is why there can never before enough of them. Starring, as presumably just their voices, in the lead roles are comedians Nick Swardson (Grandma's Boy, Bolt, Bucky Larson, 30 Minutes or Less) and T.J. Miller (Cloverfield, Unstoppable, Gulliver's Travels, Yogi Bear). Two hilarious guys who should certainly bring plenty of levity to this stop-motion flick, but what is it about? According to the Deadline post, Hell & Back is about two best friends who must rescue their pal when he is accidentally dragged to hell. So it sounds like Swardson and Miller, the two best friends, are dragged through hell and back to get him. This is being made ...

I didn't see Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill, and it wasn't because Sony didn't screen it; because they did. Nope, the reason I didn't see it is because it looked like more of the same Sandler twaddle. A fact that caused me to look back to try and find out the last time I subjected myself to one of Sandler's so-called "comedies". As it turns out, Jack and Jill is the fourth one in a row that I've skipped. Jack and Jill was now part of a growing list with Just Go with It (2011), Grown Ups (2010) and Bedtime Stories (2008). Admittedly, I have heard Just Go with It was actually pretty good (though the film's 20% RottenTomatoes score says otherwise), but I still have no desire to see it. The last Adam Sandler movie I did see -- no, I don't count him voicing the monkey in Zookeeper -- was Funny People...

This weekend, Contagion spreads onto over 3,700 screens at 3,222 locations (including 257 IMAX venues) and is poised to end The Help's reign. Warrior trains to be a slow-burning crowd pleaser on close to 2,100 screens at 1,869 locations, while Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star and Creature should be contenders for the worst opening title, hitting 1,500 and 1,507 single-screen locations, respectively. With a rash of familiar faces (Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, etc.) and deadly disease thriller storyline, Contagion recalls Outbreak, only with a darker, grittier, more global bent. Back in 1995, Outbreak debuted to $13.4 million or the equivalent of nearly $25 million adjusted for ticket price inflation. Contagion's infection and potential end-of-humanity angles also echo the recent zombie craze, and the movie's even opening in the same mid-September slot that the Resident Evil franchise is known for. Contagion's diffuseness, though, may not make it a threat to September's record books.

Nick Swardson ought to have been a Milford Man*. He's one of those comedians who I find hysterical in small doses, but utterly cringe-inducing when he is given a lead role. Actually, that isn't accurate. His stand-up ought to count as "a lead role" and I do like the Comedy Central specials that I've seen, so I guess I like Nick Swardson best when he's playing a variation of himself. Basically, when he isn't given total freedom. (For argument's sake, stand-up comedians don't have "total freedom" in the sense that a live audience can have an effect on the ultimate outcome of that particular set. Lawyered?) As such, Swardson is one of my favorite things about both "Reno 911!" and Grandma's Boy, but I stayed far, far (faaaaaaaaar) away from his sketch series, "Nick Swardson's Pretend Time." I'll probably be staying even farther away from his new starring role in...

Yes, you read that headline correctly, and yes, it is possibly the most ridiculous headline I have written in my entire career. The best part? It happened.
Apparently, "Doctor Who" star Matt Smith was one of several actors who participated in a recent event called "24 Hour Plays" in Los Angeles. For his part in the event, which tasks writers with scripting a play in one night and having actors perform it the next, Smith played a "very confused Batman" who wakes up on an autopsy table.
There's a full report on the event and Smith's performance over at The Telegraph, while The Daily Mail has a bunch of great photos of Smith and some of the other actors. Oh, and Smith's take on Batman wasn't the only comics-friendly performance during the show.
"Grandma's Boy" actor Nick Swardson played Robin to Smith's version of Batman during the short play, which was titled "Gotham Autopsy.

What would you do if you were abducted by gorilla mask-wearing criminals, forced to strap a bomb to your chest and told to go rob a bank or else incur a terrible, fiery demise? If your name's Jesse Eisenberg, you'd go give your best pal Aziz Ansari a call.
MTV News visited the set of "30 Minutes or Less" late last year and got the inside scoop on everything you want to know about "Zombieland" director Ruben Fleischer's latest comedy. Eisenberg stars in the film as a pizza delivery guy who finds himself in the exact predicament outlined above, and he quickly realizes that getting out of such a situation is going to require some outside assistance — which is where Ansari comes in.

This Week in DVD & Blu-ray is a column that compiles all the latest info regarding new DVD and Blu-ray releases, sales, and exclusive deals from stores including Target, Best Buy and Fry’s. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (Releases on Friday, April 15 — Blu-ray available as single-disc and Blu-ray+DVD+digital copy) I'm still not convinced that the final installment of the Harry Potter franchise needed to be separated into two films, but perhaps that's a discussion better reserved for Part 2. Is it fair to judge this as a standalone film, or should it be taken as only half of a whole (which in itself is only one seventh of an even greater whole)? Director David Yates seems to want it both ways, while also attempting to appease both hardcore fans of the books and more casual viewers of the movies. The effort is admirably ambitious, though not always successful,...

Now that originating developer Bungie's said goodbye to its multimillion dollar franchise, Microsoft's taking it time to get the next "Halo" game right. Luckily, they've got another sci-fi shooter franchise to fill the void in "Gears of War 3." The "Gow" threequel's due out this fall and already drives fans crazy in anticipation at just how frenetic and inventive the multiplayer will be.
Speaking of multiplayer, that shiver-inducing "Gears" multiplayer will be the central plot of an upcoming movie called "N00Bz". Director Blake Freeman--whose documentary "Gawd Bless America" releases this summer--takes a comedic look at the world of competitive gaming. From the press release:
N00BZ is set in the fanatical world of online gaming and follows four friends on their quest to Las Vegas to compete in the gaming world championships. N00BZ will finally give casual and hardcore online gamers - the fastest growing segment of the...

A real-life wholesome teen did battle against a fictitious over-the-hill womanizer at the box office over the weekend as "Never Say Never" and "Just Go With It" fought a close contest for bucks. The economy was the real winner, as ticket sales surged overall by more than 30 percent, according to estimates. Disney's CG-animated "Gnomeo & Juliet" rounded out the top three with more than $25 million in revenue.
Justin Bieber's most die-hard Beliebers came out in droves to put the singing sensation's 3-D documentary into the #2 slot with a $30.3 million opening. As of press time, the figure was just a well-coiffed hair away from the estimated $31 million earned by "Just Go With It."
