- He served as BBC television's Head of Serials in the 1970s. In this role, he suggested Tom Baker to Doctor Who (1963) producer Barry Letts as a suitable replacement for Jon Pertwee, having worked with him on BBC Play of the Month (1965). He also appointed Philip Hinchcliffe as producer of Doctor Who (1963) in 1974 following Letts' decision to leave the job after five years.
