A Saturday basketball game at the gym put Morris Chestnut on to Reasonable Doubt in its first season.
“Normally when guys are around in a gym, they talk about a bunch of stupid stuff, irrelevant stuff, like a sports game or whatever. But out of the blue, one of the guys was like, ‘Man, have you seen this show Reasonable Doubt?’” Chestnut recalls to The Hollywood Reporter.
The enthusiasm of his friend — a noted fan of the Hulu legal drama’s lead actress Emayatzy Corinealdi who plays Jax Stewart, a sharp defense attorney with a messy personal life — made Chestnut give the show a try.
“It was just so odd, because that’s not what dudes normally talk about in the gym. So it was like, well, I have to check it out,” he adds. “Let me see what he’s talking about. And it was great.”

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Reasonable Doubt Season 2, Episode 5, “Guilty Until Proven Innocent.”] Morris Chestnut is no stranger to taking on a role on an established show, and such is the case with his seamless introduction as Corey Cash, the newest lawyer at Jax Stewart’s (Emayatzy Corinealdi) firm. Taking the lead on the defense case of Jax’s friend Shanelle (Shannon Kane), who stands trial for murdering her husband, Corey’s entrance into the courtroom and Jax’s day-to-day life have sparked some tensions, but are fences finally mending? By the end of the latest episode, “Guilty Until Proven Innocent,” the duo had made a pact to be more direct with one another and shift focus from being pitted against one another by their white colleagues to directing their energy toward best servicing their Black clients and sticking together as a team. Joining the mix of this established show was a no-brainer for Chestnut,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Reasonable Doubt Season 2, Episode 5, “Guilty Until Proven Innocent.”] The stakes for Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi) are raised in the latest episode of Reasonable Doubt, which teased an edge-of-your-seat cliffhanger for the lawyer who continues to fight for her friend and client Shanelle (Shannon Kane) on trial for killing her footballer husband Jt (Christopher Mychael Watson). As court proceedings carried out, Jax and new team member Corey Cash (Morris Chestnut) remained at odds, but as the episode reached its end, it felt as though the tides might change. When the firm members went behind Jax’s back to see how they could make Corey’s job easier as lead on Shanelle’s case, it forced Jax to confront her colleague, and they made a pact to focus more on helping members of the Black community together as some of the only people of color on staff at the firm. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Reasonable Doubt Season 2, Episodes 1-4.] When it comes to Reasonable Doubt, viewers are living in Jax Stewart’s (Emayatzy Corinealdi) world, but Season 2 is proving that the lawyer isn’t as in control as she’d like to be. As the latest episodes unfold, Jax is tested with the variable of Corey Cash (Morris Chestnut) taking the lead on her friend Shanelle’s (Shannon Kane) defense case after she’s accused of murdering her husband Jt (Christopher Mychael Watson), and now she could be facing a further fracture in her marriage to Lewis (McKinley Freeman), who realized in the fourth episode, “Primetime,” that he may have fathered a child outside of his marriage after a fling with Toni (Tristan Cunningham) in Season 1. Disney/Crystal Power “We’re going to see two people who really love each other and want to make it work, and also see how both of them have to grow,” ...

Morris Chestnut, the latest star to join Hulu-Onyx Collective’s hit legal drama “Reasonable Doubt,” says he’d love to be a permanent addition to Jax Stewart’s (Emayatzy Corinealdi) bench.
“I would love to be,” the actor told TheWrap. “Without a doubt. Working with Raamla [Mohamed] and Emayatzy, the whole cast is incredible. Raamla writes a great script. I couldn’t wait to see what was going to be in the next script after I read the previous one. I would come back in a heartbeat.”
Chestnut steps into the courtroom as Corey Cash, the suave, media-savvy and extremely calculated defense attorney that Stewart needs to help her win her best friend’s murder case. However, his unique tactics could prove to be more dramatic than helpful.
And speaking of heartbeats, it looks like Corey might be making Jax’s (and fans’) beat a little harder. After the two characters...

“Reasonable Doubt” stars Angela Grovey and Tim Jo said executive producer and showrunner Raamla Mohamed encourages the cast to lean into their own creativity when it comes to delivering comedic lines.
“I’d say it’s a real testament to Raamla Mohamed, who is an expert craftsman,” Jo, who plays Jax Stewart’s private investigator Daniel Kim, told TheWrap. “I can’t imagine the amount of effort and thought that goes into every word, and into the entire show that is her baby. [This story contains spoilers from season two’s first two episodes of Reasonable Doubt.]
Reasonable Doubt escaped the post-Hollywood strikes cancellation that impacted several other freshmen shows. Now in its second season, hotshot L.A. defense attorney Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi) has lost a bit of her fire from last season.
After being kidnapped and nearly killed by Damon (Michael Ealy), a man she was convinced got incarcerated because she failed him as an attorney, Jax is understandably traumatized when the second season of the Hulu legal drama opens. She and husband Lewis (McKinley Freeman) are hooking up and in couples therapy, but aren’t officially back together. Their problem, however, has never been in the sheets. Instead, their main clash is over her work/wife balance, especially when it comes to their kids.

If you feel like you're experiencing deja vu, you're in good company because it seems like not that long ago, audiences were told that S.W.A.T. would have its last episodes in the seventh season.
But here we are, and we couldn't be happier about it!
Most of the time, behind-the-scenes rumblings come with sour news, but not so much this time. We don't blame CBS for wanting to keep Shemar Moore's handsome face around for another year.
In fact, we fully support it.
While some grumblings accompanied the rumblings, the series still has more good news attached to its name than bad.

Grab your magnifying glass, deerstalker hat, and pipe, fellow TV Fanatics, because a new Holmes-inspired show called Watson is coming to television screens everywhere as a midseason treat for the 2024-2025 broadcast schedule.
Interestingly, this will be the second CBS series to adapt the Sherlock stories, the first being Elementary, starring Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson.
The upcoming series, Watson, won't take place in the same universe, but as it shares similar elements, it'll be an amazing new show for audiences who miss the 2012 series that ended after seven seasons in 2019.
Some viewers might find the premise a touch different from the usual murder mystery plot in a good Sherlock Holmes story, but don't worry -- we're here to tell you everything we know so far!

BET wants some Emmys.
In a year where major streamers and legacy networks dominate the Emmy conversations, BET Media Group, which includes BET+ and BET Studios, has had a record-breaking year for its critically acclaimed content, such as Lee Daniels’ racy sitcom “The Ms. Pat Show,” the drama thriller “Average Joe” and the dark comedy “Diarra From Detroit.” All in all, the legacy broadcast media network has submitted in over 35 Primetime Emmy categories, the most in its history.
BET+ surprised many in 2022 and 2023 when it picked up back-to-back nominations for “The Ms. Pat Show” director Mary Lou Belli. A veteran in the TV business, she’s helmed notable episodes of “Sister, Sister,” “Monk” and “NCIS.” After dropping its fourth season on May 23, Belli is up for consideration once again for the premiere episode “I’m the Pappy,” alongside co-creator and showrunner Jordan E. Cooper for “The Book of Denise” episode.

As heartbroken as So Help Me Todd fans might be right now, they may find a silver lining in some recent news concerning one of the show’s cast members.
Following the series’ definite cancellation that couldn’t be prevented even by fans’ grand online campaign that had been calling out CBS for weeks, So Help Me Todd’s Inga Schlingmann, who portrayed the leading character’s ex-girlfriend Susan on the ditched show, has landed a big role in Watson, CBS’ upcoming series described as a medical drama with detective elements.
Watson initially came around at the expense of the network’s other successful shows, including So Help Me Todd, as CBS needed to make room in its tight schedule for the new arrivals.

Exclusive: A month and a half after the painful cancellation of So Help Me Todd, main cast member Inga Schlingmann has been tapped as a series regular on another CBS procedural, the upcoming Watson, headlined by Morris Chestnut. That is both good news for So Help Me Todd fans, as it keeps a piece of the show on CBS, and bad news, since it makes the series’ end permanent. There was never a realistic chance but fans had been holding out hope that So Help Me Todd could find a home elsewhere.
Also set as a lead in Watson is Eve Harlow (The Night Agent). Both Schlingmann and Harlow are extending their relationship with Watson producer CBS Studios coming off So Help Me Todd and the final season of Star Trek: Discovery, respectively.
In addition to Chestnut, the two join a cast member from another CBS procedural, S.W.A.

S.W.A.T. may have scored a last-minute renewal, but the long-running procedural is losing a familiar face ahead of Season 8.
Per Deadline, Rochelle Aytes is leaving the role of Nichelle Carmichael as a series regular.
The outlet teases that Aytes was not in contention to return as a series regular next season.
However, given Nichelle’s connection to Hondo (Shemar Moore), producers would like the fan-favorite to recur next season.
As soon as news emerged that Aytes was available, the actress was approached to join the cast of Watston, which will see her star opposite Morris Chestnut.
The series regular role on the new series could complicate a return to S.W.A.T., so Nichelle may be absent for an undetermined amount of time.
Aytes has been with S.W.A.T. for years
Aytes started on S.W.A.T. in a recurring capacity but was upped to series regular during its seventh season.

Exclusive: Rochelle Aytes is leaving S.W.A.T. as a series regular. In a quick turnaround, she has joined another CBS procedural, the upcoming medical drama Watson headlined by Morris Chestnut.
In a surprising move, CBS last month renewed S.W.A.T. for an eighth season having previously canceled the show after six seasons before reversing that decision to pick up a seventh and final season. As new deals had to be made with the cast, Aytes, who plays Nichelle Carmichael, was not invited back as a series regular but the producers want to keep her in the S.W.A.T. universe as Hondo’s (Moore) wife and mother to their child, and the hope is that she will recur next season.

Looking at the crop of new scripted series selected by the broadcast networks for 2024-25, one cannot help but reminisce about the 20th anniversary of what may have been broadcast television’s greatest season ever.
The 2004-05 season introduced several genre-defying series — all but one based on original ideas — whose impact on TV storytelling is still being felt: Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, House, The Office and Veronica Mars.
