I really enjoyed the start of this volume, I loved getting to learn more about Loid’s back story, it was very interesting and gave more depth to his character. The middle to end was a little slow for me, but it set up some things that I think will be fun to read in future volumes. I’m looking forward to the battle of the friendship schemes haha
SYLVIA SHERWOOD HAS ME BY THE THROAT/HEART/BRAIN/CHAIN/MEMBRANE & all other humanly parts.
This was such a breath of fresh air to a series I had previously second-guessed. I thought an episodic cutesy manga series couldn't possibly draw me in past 6 volumes. But this one made me question that.
It's so cute and fun and badass in the weirdest ways. That being said, I've reinvested myself in this series and will update you as I go along as to whether or not it remains worthwhile (in a monetary sense as well as an entertainment sense).
edit: omg the cover is so cute and heartbreaking at the same time! 🤌🏼🥲🥺🥺
well, this was a rollercoaster of emotions. Loid's past was painful to witness. no child should ever go through that 💔🥺 also, the battle of friendship has begun! so excited for what's next! 🤩
just as i was beginning to feel that the story was growing a bit directionless, we’re hit with a devastating flashback and some major plot movement happens??? endo are you reading my mind 🤨
as usual, this is a roller-coaster ride of emotions. from me crying over loid's childhood past and how he yearns for that childhood freedom even if he grew up, to me giggling and laughing my ass off over the same craziness of anya's antics and her dynamics between her parents and her friends
After everything Loid has been through he deserves nothing less than to fall in love and settle down with Yor and raise his little family and that is the only ending I will accept in the future.
3.5 stars! the highlights of this volume were the look into loid’s background and yor playing volleyball and i will be treasuring these moments forever.
Ommoooo the one on the cover is baby Loid🥺. My little heart!
It was so great yet tragic to read/see Loid’s childhood days and how he came to become a spy.
Anya was able to make me laugh yet again.
And I’m still waiting for that kiss from Loid and Yor😤. Ik it’s been 3 months only since they got married and stuff, but it’s VOLUME 10!!! At least give us some thing!
Oh, hey, after a long digression the family actually tries to make some progress on their primary mission. Well, no, first we have to get through a secret origin of Twilight/Loid Forger that reaches back to his childhood and follows him through war and his entry into the intelligence service. But THEN the family makes some progress.
The funniest bit in the book is when Loid reviews the current progress and calculates how much longer the mission will take if they continue at that rate. It's nice to see some acknowledgement of the pacing problem of this series.
This was a bit of a mixed bag, but the good parts were really good!
I loved learning more about Loid’s past, even with how tragic it is. It makes sense why he’s so determined and why he’s weak to Anya’s sadness. It’s interesting we dealt more with that during the interview process to get into Eden and it hasn’t really come up beyond a few lines about Anya being worried about being abandoned again. Now, Loid is focused on the importance of friendship.
The story about them saving the visiting celebrity wasn’t as entertaining to me, to be honest. And it was longer than expected.
I liked seeing Yor branching out and making friends. That was nice and I always like when the story talks about her fear of appearing “normal”.
Not a ton of Anya in this volume and that was a bummer.
Spy X Family is my comfort series - idc if people think that this and Chainsaw Man are overrated! They kickstarted my love for anime, and especially manga, again! 💖🥰
Wow. The first two mini chapters of this volume were DARK. It’s Agent Twilight’s backstory, him growing up during a time of war. He experienced devastating loss.
Also, when we get back to the main story, Yor constantly trying to better herself as a mother to Anya is so adorable… but she doesn’t realise she’s already doing so well 🥹 Have to ask the question; why is this fake family actually better than some real families I s2g…?! I wanna join the Forger family so bad 😅
We got a baby Loid!!!! Well a kid but still, he was tiny and playing with his friends. He was so cute and serious. This was such a tragic backstory that just kept getting sadder. No wonder Loid/Twilight wants to rid the world of bad guys. My favorite parts are of course the ones that follow the family and Anya.
This was still good and had a lot of potential but felt more of a filler volume. I’m waiting to see where it’s going with the small things that happened here.
If you've been reading this series as a spy caper, brace yourself. The book opens with what feels like an extra-long chapter about Loid's childhood and youth, and it is difficult, especially if you have family history around WWII; I could hear parts of this in my grandparents' voices. It's very well done, and absolutely necessary, because it grounds Loid in ways that even he isn't aware of - so much of how he ends up interacting with Anya comes down to what he lived through as a child. There are funny bits as well, and the return of Wet Bond is always welcome, but be aware: this isn't the usual silliness, and what is is overshadowed by the start.
