Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments Where do you get your audio books from?

message 6: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 1455 comments I get most of mine from Audible. It is about $23 a month for 2 books a month. Plus they always have books for $5 or 3 books for 2 credits deals. Plus the first audiobook you get is free. I just started doing it this year and have found I really like it especially since I have a 45 minute commute to work.

message 7: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I've seen advertisements for it. Are they MP3's? Can you put them on your iPhone? Do you only get to keep it for a month or yours forever as long as the technology allows? I wonder if it would work while I am in China? Have there been any where you disliked the reader so much? I tried listening to Marked on audio (from library) & the voices were god awful. I nearly clawed my eardrums out.

I have them all on my iPhone, but you can put it onto any MP3 you please. Once you get it, they are yours as long as technology will allow you. I am just waiting for the HP ones because I heard they are phenomenal on audio. I am pretty sure as long as you have your MP3 and you can connect it from your computer to whatever device you are listening to it on you will be able to listen to it in any country that you are in. On Audible people can rate the overall, story, and narrator so you can determine whether or not you may like it before it starts.

There have been quite a few that have surprised me. Like the Stray series by Rachel Vincent and Ship Breaker. I REALLY liked those on Audiobook. I am looking forward to also reading them in paper format. There have been some that I just dislike period. I am not into mellow voices and for audios I like a little bit of comedy or action to keep me wanting to keep listening.

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I love the James Patterson audiobooks! (also from library) I pick them up when I have a long car drive ahead of me, WI to FL. I dont like stopping.

I think I know what I want for Xmas now! There are many long drives to get to one good place to another in China. I bring my nook & kindle but I hate to miss the country side. Even if after awhile it is all rice fields. This is just amazing to hear. I have an extra iPhone that is empty that would be perfect for loading up these books.

Any suggestions about the site? Can you friend others like on here?

message 10: by ★Meghan★ (last edited Dec 09, 2011 06:21PM) (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 1455 comments You know I am not sure. The site I think is fairly simple to manuever around. If you have any questions feel free to ask. It tells you exactly how to download onto iPods and the like or you can get an app on the iPhone or iTouch to download them as well.

message 11: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments An app!! Well hello to audio books. I have 5 hours to drive tomorrow so I'm so excited to hear all this. I'll check it all out when I get the computer on ;)

message 12: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments It has standard & high quality download. Which do you prefer? Any noticable difference?

message 13: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 1455 comments I do Standard...I don't know if I have tried the HQ download...maybe on the next book I download I will. I have found no problems with Standard though.

message 14: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I didn't get a free book :( They took a credit right away. Ah shucks! I'm going to have to call them tomorrow.

And darn if I didn't have a hard time getting it to download into my iTunes!!! Wipes brow. I was about to bop my computer and say "Give me" like a 2 year old poppet.

But I now have Clockwork Prince after an hour of browsing (& an hour of cursing the confounded technology of this computer!!) I could not pick which book to try first. I was a Book Lover in a Book Store! *grin*

message 15: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 1455 comments I know there are SOOOOO many books and it doesn't matter the price of the book because they are all the same with the credits. Unless you find the good deals. But most are more expensive than 11 dollars per book.

message 16: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments Now I have to learn how to focus on the book. I like the backwards 30 sec feature! & how it counts the minutes for you :) Now to get my free book & I will be sold!

Dee (austhokie) | 315 comments audible has great sales as well...i always stock up during them...I think once a year or so, they have a first in series sale, where like 100 different series have their first book for like 4.95; they did a halloween one not long ago...its jsut a matter of keeping an eye out. I love the audible app for my itouch, and you can also sync any audiobook cd's that you mgiht upload as well to it, and listen through that

also check out your library for audiobooks...if you get the wma file (at least for me), I can listen to them on my ipod and they show on the audible app

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments Great advice ladies! I'm nearly done with my first book & cracked open 2 badges and made gold in one already.

message 20: by Dee (new)

message 21: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 1455 comments I love the Badges I just wish I could figure out exactly what I needed to do to get them all...I am just a bit of a nerd like that. :)

Dee (austhokie) | 315 comments i was reading a blog on it somewhere...if you google audible badges, and it breaks them down..but I think there are 2 that even those avid readers haven't gotten yet

I had like 9 or 10 of them, and then lost them all when the iOS5 update screwed up my ipod...it corrupted my back-up and I lost everything

Yeah I lost all of mine too. I had at least 7, but lost them all when someone hacked into my email account and I had to change the account name it was under. Luckily I didn't lose all my books.

message 24: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I have 6 badges already. That was so fast. I have a few silver. One gold and one Diamond badge!! Is there anything beyond a Diamond? I"m curious to know. LOL!

I was seriously thinking about breaking down and doing a google search on the badges. I think I will wait just a little while longer ;) See if I can crack some more on my own.

message 25: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 315 comments I think Diamond is the highest...

message 30: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I have the ticker for audio on my pages thread. I should move it to my audio thread too. I do like to see that I am getting somewhere. Even if it is at the pace of a slug. A teeny tiny baby slug.
