Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1332 comments THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY - In Honor Of Walt Disney (Born December 5, 1901 – Died December 15, 1966) Read A Book Related To Your Favorite Disney Film.
Ex. If Your Favorite Film Is Cinderella You Could Read Godmother The Secret Cinderella Story Or Before Midnight A Retelling of "Cinderella".

If you need suggestions for books to read for this task post a request here.

Cinderella:
--Silver Woven in my Hair by Shirley Rousseau Murphy
--Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine (Already mentioned in another answer, but I think this is one of the best ones you can find)
--Cindy Ella by Robin Palmer

For Snow White, you could also do Mirror, Mirror by Gregory Maguire.

Ashley FL | 721 comments I was hoping to do "Enchanted" (my favorite Disney film), but it appears to be an original screenplay, and I can find no books related to the movie. Before I give up, does anyone know of any books that I've missed?

Thanks!

The characters of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves appear in the book description. Would this work?

It doesn't seem that they play a large role from what descriptions I've read so I would say no - but if they do then yes you could use it.

Rachel Lee (rlcwt9) | 261 comments Does anyone have any recommendations for books related to Aladdin? It and The Incredibles are my favorite disney movies. I could always do something to do with superheroes, but since we just did that last challenged I would like something different.

Any help is appreciated.

Aladdin
One of the many retellings of the tale appears in A Book of Wizards and A Choice of Magic, by Ruth Manning-Sanders.

Oops! I put the wrong book in this category. I meant to put
The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly in this task. It has Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in the description. I was going to use the other book for part of Task 15.2 (magical world).

This book seems to have a multitude of fairytale characters I would like it to be more directed at that specific one.

Amanda wrote: "Would Doctor Zhivago work for the movie Anastasia? The book is about the Russian Revolution."Anastasia is 20th Century Fox not Disney so that doesn't work for that reason.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments There's a cute book called If I Have a Wicked Stepmother, Where's My Prince? by Melissa Kantor, that would work for Cinderella.

I'm planning to read Beauty Sleep... I LOVE Sleeping Beauty! (Or possibly, I think Prince Phillip is a stud. One of the two, for sure...)

message 24: by scherzo♫ (new)

scherzo♫ (pjreads) Does "related to" include word matches between book title and movie if contents of book and movie are not related?

For Fantasia, would Fantasia of the Unconscious by D.H. Lawrence work?

My other option is two short audio books (5 hrs total) about music used in the movie:
An Introduction to Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring"
An Introduction to Beethoven's "Pastoral Symphony"

It is a great link Diane; I had also discovered it and earlier used it to find some options.

Cynthia, to clarify, the book we choose has to relate to our chosen film, not be simply a retelling of the story?

Thank you so much!

I've read Briar Rose... It was NOT my favorite book ever... I think I would have liked it more if I'd known what it was about at all (it's a holocaust story), but I was expecting something happy and fairy-taley, you know? Enchantment looks really good, too. For me, it's between that one and Beauty Sleep.

message 37: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments Briar Rose is a holocaust book? Huh. That's different.

My father has Enchantment on his shelves so FREEBIE LOAN! That's what sealed the deal. But this is great! There's more SB fans!!! I should take a snapshot of my collection. *giggles*

I wonder if I could fit the other SB books into other challenges. HMMM.

message 38: by Sara ♥ (last edited Nov 16, 2009 07:42PM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments Freebie loans are the best. They're even better when the person is likely to forget you borrowed it and never ask for it back... heehee... (That would be my mom and/or sister...)

Other challenges: Check Chinese Zodiac (5.7), just in case. Fictional land (15.2b)? Multitasking, possibly (25.7)...

You could pick what your favorite section of the film is and read something based on that - for example my favorite section was always The Pastoral Symphony with the cenataurs and ancient Greece so I could - if I were doing this film - read something about Greek Gods/Greece.

message 46: by Lyn (Readinghearts) (last edited Nov 23, 2009 06:45PM) (new)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I was wondering if that would work. Thanks Cynthia. I will do that, I do have a favorite section, it is the nutcracker, particularly the part where the muxhrooms are dancing. So I was thinking of reading The Documents in the Case by Dorothy L. Sayers, which is a mystery about a mushroom expert that gets killed eating the wrong kind of mushroom. would that work?
