L'avare
Harpagon est un vieillard odieux et avare. Avare jusqu'au ridicule, puisqu'il fait comparaître en justice le chat d'un de ses voisins pour lui avoir mangé le reste d'un gigot ! Avare jusqu'au sordide aussi. Ne cherche-t-il pas à prêter à un taux usuraire l'argent qu'il refuse à son fils ? N'est-il pas prêt à vendre sa fille à qui offre de la prendre sans dot ? Quant à sa prétendue attirance pour Mariane, elle ne résiste pas à sa fascination pour l'or. Peut-être la plus célèbre des comédies de Molière, L'Avare s'inspire largement de l'Aulularia, une pièce de théâtre écrite au IIIe siècle avant J-C par le poète latin Plaute.

Later, people granted the use of the Palais-Royal to Molière. In both locations, he found success among the Parisians with les Précieuses ridicules (The Affected Ladies), l'École des maris</i> (<i>The School for Husbands</i>), and <i>[book:l'École des femmes (The School for Wives). This royal favor brought a pension and the title "Troupe du Roi" (the troupe of the king). Molière continued as the official author of court entertainments.
Molière received the adulation of the court and Parisians, but from moralists and the Church, his satires attracted criticisms. From the Church, his attack on religious hypocrisy roundly received condemnations, while people banned performance of Don Juan . From the stage, hard work of Molière in so many theatrical capacities began to take its toll on his health and forced him to take a break before 1667.
From pulmonary tuberculosis, Molière suffered. In 1673 during his final production of le Malade imaginaire (The Imaginary Invalid), a coughing fit and a haemorrhage seized him as Argan, the hypochondriac. He finished the performance but collapsed again quickly and died a few hours later. In time in Paris, Molière completely reformed.

L'Avare = The Miser, Molière
The Miser is a five-act comedy in prose by the French playwright Molière. It was first performed on September 9, 1668, in the theatre of the Palais-Royal in Paris.
The aging but vital Harpagon is hoarding every centime he can get his hands on, making sure that his two children, the virginal Elise and the dandy Cleante, live under his iron will.
To complicate matters, Elise has fallen in love with the handsome Valere, who masquerades as a servant in the household, despite his noble birth, and, worse yet, Cleante and Harpagon are both smitten with the same woman, the beautiful, if somewhat dim, Marianne.
Meanwhile, scheming servants and assorted hustlers angle for Harpagon's incredible wealth, much of which is now buried and protected by snarling Dobermans. The delirious plot spirals to a wildly comic finish, filled with all the masterful plot twists and outrageous revelations one would expect from one of Molière's finest plays.

I strongly want to believe that I didn't like this because I wrongly chose the edition I read. I want to believe it was not well written and that's it.
It has been always said that Molière was a great writer and I have no doubt about it, but I was not happy with this play. The miser father's story that doesn't want to get rid of his money for anything in this world, the family dispute and hate for the love of a woman and even the excess of dialogues make that I score it with no more than 2 stars.
I would like to write a longer comment about this play, but I don't know what else I can add. Anyway, maybe I will appreciate it more with time.

Quiero creer firmemente que la culpa de que no me haya gustado mucho esta obra es que elegí mal la edición; no estaba bien escrito y ya.
Siempre se habla mucho de Molière que fue un gran escritor y no lo dudo, pero esta obra me dejó con gusto a muy poco.
La historia del padre avaro que no quiere dejar su dinero por nada del mundo, la disputa y el odio familiar por el amor de una mujer y hasta la misma exageración en los diálogos hacen que le ponga no más de 2 estrellas.
Me gustaría escribir un comentario más largo acerca de esta obra, pero no sé que más puedo agregar. En fin, quizás le tome más aprecio con el tiempo.

آخرین کتابی که در سال ۱۳۹۹ به خودم هدیه دادم 🍩
من با ترجمهی ( میراندا منوچهری) خوندم که توی گودریدز اسمشون رو پیدا نکردم . کتابم مال چاپ سال ۱۳۶۹ عه و خیلی خوشگل و قدیمیه. عاشق کتابهای کاهی و کهنه شده ام. قیمت پشت جلد ۵۵ تومنه و من ۹ هزارتومن خریدمش. نمیدونید موقع خریدش چقدر هیجان زده بودم. الانم که دارم دربارهش مینویسم خیلی هیجان دارم همچنان.
درباره خود کتاب هم عرض کنم اگر آخرش هندی نمیشد حتما بهش ۵ ستاره میدادم. این سبک نمایشنامه ها سلیقه من نیستن. نمایشنامه های مدرن رو دوستتر دارم . ولی خب خوندمش چون خیلی زشته یک آدم مدعی کتاب خوندن، اثر معروف مولیر رو نخونده باشه.

دوستانِ گرانقدر، این نمایشنامه که میتوان آن را کمدی کلاسیک به شمار آورد، در مورد پیرمردِ تازه به دوران رسیده و خسیسی به نامِ <هارپاگون> میباشد.... هارپاگون نشناخته و ندیده، قصد دارد تا با دخترِ زیبا و جوانی به نامِ <ماریان> ازدواج کند.. در این میان، پسرِ هارپاگون که <کلئانت> نام دارد نیز عاشقِ ماریان میباشد
هارپاگون این پیرمردِ خسیس و منفور، میخواهد دخترِ جوانش <الیز> را به پول بفروشد و او را بدون جهیزیه به ازدواجِ یک پیرمردِ اشرافی و اصیل درآورد... ولی پسرِ جوانی به نامِ <والر> که پیشکارِ هارپاگون میباشد، دلباختهٔ الیز شده و نمیتواند از او دل کنده و شاهدِ ازدواجش با یک پیرمردِ ثروتمند باشد.. از این روی، با کلئانت همدست میشود تا هر دو به خواستهٔ دلِ خویش دست یابند

W sumie śmieszne to było. Typ nie karmił koni, bo stwierdzał że skoro konie stoją w stajni to nie są głodne. Potem jakiś wątek jak z ukrytej prawdy, gdzie jego gówiaki oskarżają go o to, że zniszczył im życie i że jest chujowym ojcem i że ojebal ich na pieniądze.

To laugh out loud, go and see L'Avare, and to fend off nightmares of power-hungry manipulators, see Tartuffe. nie spodziewałam się czegoś tak przyjemnego i zabawnego po lekturze szkolnej. całość przeczytałam w jakieś 2 godziny i język nie był wcale ciężki mimo, że ta sztuka pochodzi z XVII wieku, plot twist na końcu 10/10<3

"What use will money be to us if it comes only when we are too old to enjoy it?"
This is my second encounter with Molière's brilliant work, and I, similarly to before, found it to be very entertaining.
Molière attention to irony, exaggeration, humour, and also to darker matters are what shape his comedies and make them truly great.
I strongly recommend anyone, who is only beginning to read plays and has struggle understanding and enjoying their structure, to read this one.
I laughed out loud at times, because of the witty dialogue and the hilarity of some particular events. The humor was fantastic, and this is coming from a person, who rarely ever laughs while reading.
However, it also brought to mind many more serious themes, the most obvious one being miserliness, in other words, greed and the consequences of it.
Whilst, at times the way it was presented was downright hilarious - there were moments when it really did create a sense of disgust and weariness.
An impressive insight into the lives of families at the time it was written, and the paranoia, isolation and madness such greed can cause.

the miser a French comedy by Molière ....
Harpagon the protagonist, who spends most of his time guarding his money and searching for ways to reduce or avoid paying household expenses. At the end of the play, he is more concerned with his money than he is with the welfare of his children.
Cléante Son of Harpagon. He loves Marianne, the young woman he saved from drowning and to his bad luck his father wishes to marry,Élise Daughter of Harpagon and beloved of Valère. Against her wishes, Harpagon hopes to marry her to a wealthy man whom he choose.....
Harpagon is unable to see in himself the shortcomings for which he blames others. Harpagon criticizes Jacques for always thinking of money. Harpagon, of course, is the one who is obsessed with money.
HARPAGON. Tell me, can you give us a good supper?
JACQUES. Yes, if you give me plenty of money.
HARPAGON. The deuce! Always money! I think they have nothing else to say
except money, money, money! Always that same word in their mouth,
money! They always speak of money! It's their pillow companion, money!

Se trata de una obra teatral que nos muestra al prototipo de hombre deshonesto y miserable, que seguramente será el precursor en el género.
A este Harpagón luego le sucedieron Mr. Scrooge y otros tantos protagonistas literarios, cinematográficos y de ficción igual de despreciables.
Tal como Maese Santiago lo califica en la obra: “(…) siempre se os designa bajo los nombres de avaro, roñoso, ruin y usurero.”
La obra finalmente se transforma en una comedia de enredo con un fuerte toque moralizante. Me gustaría disfrutar esta comedia en las tablas, creo que debe ganar enteros.

Ovo je ponajviše komad o željama. Čini se na prvi pogled da je lanac motivacije složen ali proziran – zna se ko koga želi i zašto. Međutim – šta je iza želje? Da li su želje likova samo odbrambeni mehanizmi – zamene za nekakve prave, nedostižne želje? Tvrdičluk se tiče uvek nečega što nadilazi samo gomilanje para, kao što opsesivno-kompulsivno ponašanje je težnja ka postizanju ne konkretnog, nego zamišljenog, apstraktnog, umirujućeg reda. A tek ljubav! Odnosno, ono što nazivamo ljubavlju. Često mi želimo da volimo više nego što zaista volimo. Ponekad su i spoljnje okolnosti presudne – druga osoba postoji kao alat za ostvarivanja želja koje se ne tiču nje. „Volimo” da bismo došli do društvenog položaja, novca, sigurnosti, da bismo nadomestili nedostajuće, da bismo ostvarili neke tuđe želje. A ponekad nasednemo na marketing. Frosina je, tako, prava učiteljica dramaturgije spletki, marketinga želja.
A Molijer istovremeno zabavlja i čini čoveka politički i psihološki pismenijim.
U nekom mogućem mračnom čitanju, ovde nema srećnog kraja. Iako se čini da na kraju sve pršti od anagnorisisa – presudnih prepoznavanja – da je svako dobio ono što je zaslužio, možda su svi, zapravo, omašili. Želje su skliznule, a Harpagonova finansijska paranoja postaje utemeljenija od aktivnosti drugih likova, jednako fiktivna kao i želje drugih likova. Dok se svi raduju budućim venčanjima, Harpagon se raduje svojoj kutiji – brlogu para kao kontejneru želja. (A šta je zapravo motivaciono utemeljenje svakog pojedinačnog lika, to je do režije.)
Ne sećam se da je Molijer bio ovako sliven i zabavan.
Inače, pošto sam knjigu čitao i u prevozu, na jednoj inače pustoj stanici gde je stovarište, prišao mi je jedan čovek u pomalo isflekanom radnom kombinezonu. Rekao mi je da mnogo voli Molijera i da se obradovao što je video da ga čita. I ja sam se obradovao. Mala drama!
P. S. Tvrdice su neuništive u svetskoj kulturi – od Aulularije, preko Skupa, Harpagona, Kir Janje, Dikensovog Skrudža, sve do Baje Patka i Kebe Krabe.
(A pošto sam bio spomenuo Harpagonovu kutiju i prirodu želje, ne mogu da se ne setim magičnog kofera iz Petparačkih priča.)
A Molijer istovremeno zabavlja i čini čoveka politički i psihološki pismenijim.

Based on Plautus, this is one of five Moliere comedies I read in my rudimentary French (but good Latin) in grad school after one defeat or another. My paper at a post-doc at Harvard with Marge Garber compared Shakespeare and his Plautine sources. I've always considered the Bard best as a comedic writer, though one must concede Moliere his equal there.
"L'Avare" is fairly late in Moliere's career, unlike Shakespeare's early uses of Plautus (here, "Aulularia"), and scandalously, in prose. A Duke disapproved, but Boileau laughed, said to be the only one. Hence, earliest reviews dissed. In Aulularia, Lyconides confesses to a crime, "istuc facinus quod tuom sollicitat animum, id ego feci et fateor"(IV.x.734, Clarendon), exactly as in L'Avare, V.iii.
As for my defeats increasing my appreciation: My major defeat was a high-status, mentally failing prof who did NOT read grad student papers. Because a fellow student flattered him, quoted his Norton intro's back to him at his Ph.D. orals, the prof got him a fairly good job --at Princeton. That fellow wrote embarassingly poorly, so he made a better career... as college and university president.
As a whole, Moliere's plays cheered me so much I didn't care what happened in the grad classes. I left--for years. Got my first job where 1400 people had interviewed for 3 positions: we were on national news, more applicants to teach than to go to college (1100?), Berkshire Community College, Pittsfield, MA in 1971. Was I better than the other 800 English apllicants? I was hired because of the way I pronounced "tromBONE." The Chairman had always heard, "TROMbone," but my Neapolitan music teacher (who played an Amati bass, and tuba) A. Bevivino, called it "tromBONE(AH)."

Tiyatroda klassisizm akımının ilk örneklerinden, 17. yüzyıla ait en kıymetli oyunlardan biri olan ve edebi değeri sebebiyle de temel eserler arasında Türkçeye hızlıca kazandırılıp sahnelenen Cimri, Moliere’in okuduğum ilk tiyatro kitabı. Absürt, abartılı ancak bir o kadar komik ve keyifli bir ilerleyişi var. Diyaloglar yaratıcı ve eğlenceli, karakterler ise çok orijinal. Harpagon’un para tutkusu ve pintiliği etrafında dönen oyunda zaman algısı yok, yalnızca okura aktarılan ve çözüme kavuşturulan bir konu var. Harpagon eli sıkılığı ve para sevdasıyla ün salm��ş bir adamdır ve iki çocuğunu sevdikleriyle değil zengin insanlarla evlendirmeye çalışırken kendisi, oğlunun aşık olduğu genç ve güzel Mariane ile evlenmek istemektedir. Bu aşk karmaşası içinde bir de evde sakladığı bütün paralar çalınınca işler tamamen içinden çıkılmaz bir hale bürünür. “Param bulunmayacak olursa bütün mahkemeleri mahkemeye vereceğim,” diyecek kadar çıldıran Harpagon bir yandan parasını bulmaya, bir yandan da çocuklarını evliliğe ikna etmeye çalışır; uşak, hizmetliler ve polisin de dahil olmasıyla bütün sahne çorba hale gelir ve ardından sürpriz itiraflarla son bulur.

January 23, 2024daha önce hiç Moilère okumamıştım, oyunu izlemeyecek olsam kısa listeme girmezdi muhtemelen. fakat iyi ki okudum çevirisi mükemmel, oyun da hem komik hem sinir bozuyor. bakalım Serkan Keskin ve eşrafı 100 sayfalık bu oyunu 3 saat nasıl oynayacaklar.

Öyle eğlenceli bir dille yazılmış ki bu tiyatro eseri. Okurken çok keyif almıştım.
Cimri Harpagon öyle cimri ki, kendisi genç ve güzel bir kızla evlenmek isterken; kızını zengin ellili yaşlarda bir adamla ,oğlunu ise zengin bir dulla evlendirmeyi düşünüyor.
Oğlu tefecilerden borç para almaya çalışıyor, O ise elindeki çil çil altınları evinde saklayacak güvenli bir yer bulamıyor:)
