Subtle Blood (The Will Darling Adventures, #3)

I feel like I say this a lot, but I completely understand the hype around this series and why so many people cite this as a comfort reread for them. I was on the edge of my seat throughout most of the last book and also found myself laughing out loud multiple times.
The development of Will and Kim’s relationship over the course of the books is just so so great. The two of them learning how to be vulnerable, to trust and support each other and allow themselves the idea of a future together was just a joy to read. I will definitely return to this series in the future. Their chemistry on page was just off the charts.
Also Maisie and Phoebe have got to be some of my favourite supporting characters I have come across. I love them so much. It’s so easy, especially in historical fiction, to write off women as these flighty accessories to the main characters and the fact that both of these women were taken seriously and were so strong and well realised as characters with their own motivations and goals delighted me.
Asking me to pick a favourite KJC books is a bit like asking me to pick a favourite child and I don’t know if I could ever do it. But if push came to shove I would secretly admit it’s probably this series lol.

Lovely review ❤️ KJC is new to me, yet she has rocketed to the top tier author for feel-good reading
@Kelly I have only discovered her in the last 18 months when I have returned to reading more and posting on GR but she has become such a reliable author for me. Every book is just such a great time.
@Chelsea honestly I hope that her pillow is always cool and her tea is always warm. Bless that woman for regularly churning out fabulous queer historical reads 😂😂
love it when a series shows the relationship development between the characters and it isn’t easy at first. glad this series was enjoyable! great review, evie! 🖤
@len it’s really impressive development! Considering the books aren’t long they do a lot of work. But considering Kim was such a lying shit at the start and where they end their journey together it’s just so sweet and heart warming. I just really loved them!
I still haven't read anything by this author even though I'm constantly seeing her stories all over my feed. The way you described Will and Kim's relationship has convinced me that maybe this should be the series I start with. It sounds so soothing and healthy; I'm starting to miss stories like this. Thanks for the great review.
@L Ann I think that this is a great place to start! I would encourage you to almost treat it like one big story though cause I think you get the most value by reading all three cause they really do just keep getting better each time. They are a lovely sort of cozy read though. I hope you love them and I can’t wait to read your thoughts if you pick it up!
Yes! Love this series 💞I agree so hard to pick a favourite of KJ. I have soft spots for Cyprian and Daniel Silva but I love how we get these 2 for three whole books and really feel part of their relationship
@Sarah! Yes I think that is definitely a part of it! Getting to be invested in the development of their relationship over three books just had me so hooked. And it’s so well paced! Loved it ❤️
@mehta I can see myself coming back to this in the future. It’s so cozy and Will is such a wonderful protagonist and he and Kim are one of my favourite fictional pairings now ❤️
Ahh you read it so fast!!! Glad it delivered for you. I agree, the female characters here were so beautifully developed by the end and I loved how they had their own agency as much as supporting the main male characters to reach their HEA. I always loved seeing the girls on page :) welcome to the Will Darling Favorites club ;)
@Frankie once the ball got rolling I couldn’t stop 😂 moderation? Who is she?😂 the girls were just so great and you’re right! I’m so glad they also got the HEA. I wish that there was more but I’m also so pleased with where it ended
KJ Charles has a bonus short story for this series!! I think it’s free with her newsletter. If you search her socials you’ll probably find it 😉
