This book wasn't bad, but it felt like a lot of the same thing - sex, sex, and more sex.
Unlike the characters in this book, my world was not rocked by their constant world-rocking sex and physical attraction. The "romance" comprised mainly of the main characters' finding each other insanely hot and rip-your-clothes-off desirable. I just couldn't see what they saw in each other...other than their emphasis on the other person's being a "hot piece of ass." Most of their scenes (once they got past the open distrust and wariness of the first 1/3 of the book - distrust laced with pent up lust, of course) end up with them naked and humping. After the fifth "slipped his fingers in my pussy," my eyes began to glaze over in the sex scenes. Because the majority of the book is the sex scenes, that was a lot of eye-glazing, to be frank.
I never thought I'd say it, but what it boils down to is this: less sexytimes, more storytimes, please.
Oh yeah, and a group of female friends who can show their affection beyond just calling each other (and themselves) bitches, sluts, and whores would be a nice touch, too. I'm not opposed to the language; I was just bored by the repetitive nature of it. With not much else to show their relationship or affection, it was annoying and felt rather contrived.

"Shelly Laurenston sure likes the word "pussy" -- or her characters do, at least. We differ in opinion on that one."

"Just a lot of sexytimes and obsessing over the other person's physical attributes at this point. I can only read "hot piece of ass" so many times before I feel like smacking someone."

It seems that Shelly Laurenston has a potty mouth. :D I'm not judging because I can relate. But I don't know, something about the word "pussy" kills the romance for me. Maybe because I always think about cats when I encounter it?

hahaha, exactly. I don't find "pussy" even remotely sexy or romantic, so that doesn't really work for me from almost any author.
Like you, I'm not judging when it comes to the potty mouth, but the women who call each other bitch/slut/whore, etc. do it to such an extreme extent that I got bored with their one-trick pony shtick. It's like "all right already! Can we get any other insight into their relationship?"

Maybe the girlfriends don't really like each other. Maybe they mean it when they call each other "bitches." Read the passages with that in mind and see if it changes the story. >:D Where did women pick up this "call each other foul names" habit? It's cool once or twice, but if one of my friends called me a slut all the time, I'd start to get a complex.
I've read one Laurenson book and found the humor unfunny, the nasty attitudes excessive, and the sex overdone. I did love the hero of the book I read. He was a bear shifter and he was so cute playing with his toes. :::sigh::: I want to read about him in a better book.
Nice review. I'm caught up on her Pride series, and I was going to start this series. I actually felt like there wasn't enough sex in the last Pride book. Maybe I'll get my fill here;-)
hehehee, have fun, Kris! :)
Unfortunately, I don't think Laurenston is for me. I've read at least three or four of her books, and the style and voice don't really do it for me.
Good thing there are a bajillion other PNR series where I can get my fix. ;)
