From the end of Enslaved by the Ocean we know Hendrix's stepson, Dimitri, kidnapped Jess in an attempt to confront Hendrix and exact his revenge. Dimitri gets more than he bargained for though because Jess is a handful.

I really liked Jess. She's feisty. She's a fighter. Things that happened in the past could have broken her but she's still strong and hopeful. She's loyal to Hendrix but Dimitri and his sad, familiar past is causing her to warm up to him. Plus she knows the circumstances that have caused the rift between Dimitri and Hendrix and she wants to help heal the breach.

I liked Dimitri too. If I were in his shoes I would have also hated Hendrix. His past was just as heartbreaking as Jess's. He's not that poor, lonely, helpless boy anymore but he still has a vulnerability that endeared me to him. He and Jess are a perfect match.

I really enjoyed Where Darkness Lies, even more so than book one. Well done!

FYI - No cliffhanger and no tease of which character might get their story next.
