After seeing the trailer for the film “The Wild Robot”, soon to be released in cinemas, I checked out that it was actually a series of books written by Peter Brown.
The premise of “Wild Robot” is actually a robot who is in a box with other robots, but whose ship is caught in a storm. The main character, Roz, the robot, will be the sole survivor of a shipment of 500 robots, destined to help humans.

Roz ends up on an island untouched by man, and becomes “The Wild Robot”.

The story is a cross between a fairy tale and a science-fiction novel. The robot eventually learns the language of animals and is accepted by them. But unlike the fairy tale, the novel is more “realistic” in its approach. Themes such as death, self-acceptance, survival and the environment recur frequently.

Although the story was touching and funny to read, I think I was unfortunately too far beyond the age of the target audience (9-12 years) for me to find it really interesting. I did finish it, but I don't think I'll be continuing the series.

That said, it's a gentle novel, good for the soul and a reminder of simple values. Enjoy it!
