The Madness of Crowds (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #17)

I really enjoyed the first half of the book, which was a nicely crafted detective novel and murder mystery. For me, most books in this genre are ruined by using clear formulas for plot development and resolution, but Penny does a great job of not falling into standard formulas. The set-up, the almost-murder, and the actual murder were all nicely done.
However, the second half of the book devolves into a pair of characters discussing each potential murder scenario before discounting it and moving onto the next. It feels like 250 pages of dialogue that goes nowhere except to try and solve the crimes from the first half of the book. Really poorly executed resolution.
