it was ok

I'll admit I didn't really have much in the way of expectations when I first started this book. I had received this through my subscription with Fairyloot so it had not been on my radar. When I read the premise, I thought it sounded interesting. Unfortunately, I found myself a bit bored while reading it and had a hard time getting through it.

I was not fond of Marigold. At. All. I will admit she did seem to get better as the story progressed, but I was soured by her character pretty early in the book. She judges a young woman who comes seeking her grandmother's assistance with getting the attention of a young man she fancies. She thinks it's silly that the young woman wants to fall in love, and she should want more for herself (like Marigold). She judges the same young woman when a few months later her and her new husband (the man she fancied) visit asking for help as they are trying to have a baby after being married for only three months. Listen, Marigold, it's not your life so mind your business.

I also felt like the pacing was too fast, especially when it came to the romance. I was expecting kind of a slow burn romance between Marigold and Lottie. I was thinking it would take them months to slowly get to know each other and let their guards down (especially Lottie) before falling in love. That was not the case, and I just had a hard time believing they were falling in love.

Overall, I think this book could have been so much better.
