“Never trust. Never yield. Always guard your heart.”
This was a solid 4/5 for me. This book was my first read by this author, so I’m unsure how her other works are, but the fantasy element was a little lacking in this first installment. The romance however? Chefs kiss.
The stakes didn’t feel high enough for me to ever be truly worried about the FMC/MMC which took away some of the intended excitement/anxiety of the trials for me. There was a lot of death, but never of any characters that the reader was introduced to for long enough to grow an attachment. Besides maybe Ibrahim.
The ending did have me shocked, though. I was not expecting that at all! The last 85-90% definitely has me intrigued to read book 2!
