Jesse Carver deserves to be protected, nurtured and loved at all costs.
Some people might call him an idiot, some people might call him oblivious, some people call him annoying. While in some cases some or all of it could be true, he is a gift above all else.

Jesse loves with every fiber of who he is. From the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. He will do anything for the people he loves. He’s been cast in a role within his family and it’s a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. In order to get attention, he causes a lot of chaos. Although most of the time he is provided negative attention, it is still attention and he craves to be seen.

Murphy Malone is gay. Has been; always will be and has never told a soul other than his Mom. He never told the man who has loved him like a brother for their entire lives. Murph is scared of losing Jesse. Murph sucks at communicating. I mean seriously, the worst.
As a character driven reader, I spent a lot of my time pretty angry at Murph. Asking myself why he couldn’t just say what he means. Instead he circles his friendship with Jesse around the drain and tries to push him away. Not because of anything Jesse did or said, but because of his reaction to what Jesse said or did. Murph deserves to be flicked in the forehead repeatedly for how he treated Jesse.

I love Dianna’s writing, it sucks you in. The reality is the depth of my reaction to both characters is a testament to how detailed and intricately her characters are. They are unique, inspired and beautifully brought to life.

One of my favorite quotes from the book came from Jesse
“ I don’t know why I never realized it before, but being Murph’s best friend makes me feel like…more. I really like being more.”

I sobbed a bit because everyone deserves to be seen and to be more.
