Finally...HORSES!, a young readers version of Mrs. Alexander’s At Home on a Horse in the Woods, contains and communicates the essence of the longer book: A child’s inexplicable longing for something they’ve never experienced or had modeled in life, the lifelong pursuit of that dream, the fulfillment and loss of the longed-for experience, and the happy achievement of a life rich with the childhood calling of the heart.

I particularly loved the “favorite rides” on each of the horses in Mrs. Alexander’s life. They make it easy for this “non-horsey” reader to understand and appreciate the wonder of bonding with a horse.
