The Henna Artist (The Jaipur Trilogy, #1)

I’ve been meaning to read this for years, and finally I got to it. I’m so happy I did, as this is an extraordinary story from one of my favorite countries to read about. That head-wagging always lifts my spirits, as well as the Indian version of English. I loved getting a glimpse of the different casts and how they live. I could feel the pull towards a better life for the main character and love how she gradually came to realize money and status isn’t always what you should strive for. She was an interesting character since she managed to provoke me by being a bit controlling, but I realize that if one lives in a culture where others chose for you and ‘know best’ that world view is natural to adopt. It was useful to register my reaction towards her, and adjusting my attitudes.
