Framed by Cabrera's return to Spain for a retrospective of his films, this is the story of Sergio Cabrera, his grandparents, uncle, and his parents, and of Colombia, its politics, wars, revolutionaries, and guerrillas, and of China, Mao, the Red Guard and communism. Cabrera and his sister were taken by their revolutionary father and mother to China as children, learned Chinese, became Red Guards, were left on their own in China when their parents returned to Colombia and continued the revolution there, Cabrera and his sister returning to Colombia a few years later as guerrilla fighters. Fascinating, startling, amazing to realize that at the core this is the true story of a one-of-a-kind life.
