If not for the last fourth of this book, I would not have given this 4 stars. But Hauty pulled it together, ramped up the action, had some nice twists and saved it from being another pedestrian thriller. The biggest issue with this series is that as a reader, I don't know what it wants to be. It seems Hauty has totally jumped ship from the previous three books and now has settled on a case by book series with the "Deep State" agent bending the rules to solve the mystery and restore justice. I guess I am okay with that as long as the plots are good. Oh well, we shall see.
