I love this series and I’m always excited for a new installment. That said the past few books haven’t gone in the direction I thought they’d take. Like where are the Blacksea changelings? I get that the net has a lot going on, but so did they and now it’s been like idk how many books and how much time passed with no word on them 😫 Nalini is just really focused on the psynet issues and in my opinion hasn’t done as good a job of introducing characters and having you salivating for their book. She kind of ran out of characters and recently has just been throwing random people we’ve never heard of before (or maybe just briefly) at us and expecting us to care🤷🏼‍♀️ because it’s Nalini and I’m such a stan she does get me to care, but it doesn’t hit quite the same.

All that to say though I did really like this book. From the blurb I was expecting more Arwen & Pavel though. I love Nalini branching out into MM though she does keep it pretty PG still. I don’t usually love when she has dual love stories going on, but their page time was much less than I expected, almost all at the end and I found myself wanting more of them surprisingly. I did love our main characters though. Yakov is such a cutie, I wasn’t expecting to swoon for a 5’8” man, but he’s hard to resist. I also just love the bears so it was fun to revisit den home and the clan. Theo was an interesting character, and as with many raised in silence she’s come out the other side worse for wear. Her much more so than the average psy though thanks to her evil family. I liked the foreseeing aspect of Yakov and Theo’s relationship. I wish there had been an explanation for why he saw visions of her when he was younger then the big gap before the creepier dreams, but he was definitely the mate his broken Psy needed to heal. I feel like so much is still a mystery about Theo and her abilities/issues though. I guess more will be revealed in the coming book(s)? Seems like her twin brother Pax’s is next and maybe we’ll get to the bottom of this Scarab syndrome business and how Theo ties into that and/or can help him/the net? Idk it’s all very open ended with random hints and clues about Theo and people like her, but this book felt very unresolved and I’m curious to see where Nalini’s taking this because she’s always got an end game.

Overall I did really love Yasha and Theo, I just don’t love the hyper focus on the psynet that this series has had for so long now. This series was really good about bouncing between the three races and integrating their issues so we never lost sight of anyone for too long, but because the psynet is falling apart Nalini is bringing in random characters to bridge the plot and I’d like to get back to the blacksea changelings, the human alliance, and honestly fucking Nikita Duncan and Anthony Kyriakus, that carrot has been dangled in front of me for too long! I’m sure there are a ton of other little plots and groups we’ve lost sight of too.
