Kids might respond to this very differently than I did, who knows? As a metaphor for the unwelcoming response so common towards people who are homeless, the bear is startling, maybe just because of all those Paddington books. Dumont provides a novel treatment of the subject. He also focuses on a very simple and kind act.
While we await the social commitment to solve the problem by providing homes to everyone, a reminder to practice kindness personally is a step in the right direction.
