liked it
bookshelves: dark-romance, contemporary-romance, mafia-crime-family-hitmen

so the book started off great. better than great in fact but then cue chapter 5 which went something like this:

*Alejo and Sophia having one of their very rare intense talks*

Alejo: so i have an ex-wife and two kids whose lives i haven't really been a part of bc i was in prison at the time and i mean i am a big bad drug dealer so my wife didn't want me there and then she divorced me too

Sophia: omg that is so sad im sorry

um just wait a second here okay just give me a minute okay just um— wtf?!?

if im dating a guy, id like him to tell me at the beginning of our relationship that he has two teenage kids and an ex-wife, not after almost a year of being together. but obviously Alejo didn't get the memo bc suddenly he just dropped the kid bomb and im not kidding i read the page three times bc i thought he was joking and i kept waiting for him to yell April's fool or some shit but that never came..

but instead, one of the boy's did come. to live with them. and Sophia, our no emotion showing heroine just went like k its just a guinea pig not like its a teenage kid who's getting out of hand and my boyfriend's ex-wife left on our doorstep bc she couldn't handle him. cool cool cool. no big deal.

now listen, Tyler was a good kid okay nothing against him but the kid bomb felt so forced and out of place bc you just don't still us that halfway through the second book about Alejo's secret family. its just not done.

anyway, moving on to Sophia. She was an anomaly who was affected by nothing at all.

My boyfriend kid? no problem
A video of my boyfriend with another chick? no problem
I just shot someone? no problem
My boyfriend at a strip club? no fucking problem

Alejo has to just wink at me and fuck me till the daylight and idc

every fight, argument, disagreement they had ended in him fucking her into submission. it infuriated me to no end that every argument that they had ended like that.

honestly there was like no talking in the book. between the kid and Alejo? nothing i wanted the kid to rebel, Alejo to be frustrated, Sophia to be anything but so complacent, some drama and some angst but i honestly got no real feelings, just things being resolved on their own.

now the romance. ngl i was more invested in Niner//Ben and Luis//Layne than Alejo and Sophie. now this is not me saying i didn't like them bc despite all their faults, i loved them together. they bought out this other side to each other and they made a really good couple but i mean compared to Ninner and Ben? ehh also i need a book about Niner and Ben pls

so overall, pretty enjoyable. it was fast paced and gave a good end to the duet but im not sure if its something i'll re-read. i didn't hate the book, but i guess i just wanted more

hahah yes! i didn't hate the book, but i didn't totally like it either😌🙈

julia I second everything about this review, and I am so glad that I'm not the only one feeling this way!!

You basically said everything my longwinded ass said, but in a shorter more concise way.

Because, omg, you are so right. It pissed me off to no end that every fight, disagreement, annoyance, irritation, etc. etc. was always solved with Alejo and Sophie fucking. Like, all he had to do was glance in her direction with a constipated look on his face, and boom, everything was forgiven. And when they did talk, it only lasted for .5 seconds, and then they were fucking again.

Also, YESSSS, the son thing came so out of left field, that I cannot. See, my issue wasn't even that he had a son. I mean was it random? YES. But, I thought it was leading to something, but instead NOTHING HAPPENED. Like, literally, nothing happened with it. No angst. No drama. No nothing. I just - ughhhhh.

Scott and Ellie would never.

Fabulous review, Arena!!

ahhh ikr like can y'all just halt for one second and talk? and pls the "dirty talk" was such a cringe at times

yes yes yes, i needed both me and the characters to feel something besides orgasmic pleasure but there was nothing at all. no angst, no drama, no nothing and that was super annoying like i don't want porn i want a book.

okay so i haven't read Scott and Ellie's book...?🙈

ahh thank you smm, Julia✨

julia @Arena Exactly!! I think I needed more feels and emotions in this book. I was expecting them to really build something, but alas.

OMG, you should 100% read Scott and Ellies book. They were just, ugh, so great. I loved how Ellie wasn't afraid to call Scotts ass out, and I also loved all the family//kid moments. Plus, it felt like the emotions, "i-love-yous", and sexy times were much more earned.

ahh yes everyone's been raving about Scott and Ellie's book, but like its a single parent romance and my experience with them hasn't always been great, so im a little scared but I'll definitely check it out!

Monique I agree with Julia, you have to give Scott and Ellie a try 😊 their duet is so wonderful 💕
