Maybe I'm not tuned-in enough to preteen reading levels, but I found Gilda Joyce and the Ladies of the Lake to be predictable and not very scary. Granted, I'm a horror movie junkie (and at least ten years older than this book's target audience), but I feel like a twelve-year-old Megan would have seen right through all the plot machinations. Plus, Jennifer Allison really pulls her punches. She could keep the suspense going in several different places for much longer than she actually does.

Overall, it's something to read on a Saturday, but I wouldn't waste a recommendation on it.
