liked it

This book took me forever to get through not because I actively disliked it, but because it failed to motivate me to keep reading. The characters all felt rather flat and for as long as the book was, I still didn’t feel that connections between characters were fleshed out. I found myself not caring. In typical Sanderson fashion, the ending was engaging, but not enough to raise the star rating significantly. The ending did hint that the future novels in the series may be more exciting, so I’d be willing to give later installments a go.

Ashley Tyler I think if you try the audio book, you would like it better! The narrator is awesome!

Maria Castillo Dose this give you spoiler from the other books of Brandon Sanderson book

Nicole I agree with Ashley! I was laughing so hard at the sarcasm from mbot and the occasional vocalizations of doomslug! Audiobook is definitely the way to go with this one.

Fergus No, Maria, it is almost fully standalone. It is set in the same universe as a shirt story, Elysium, available free on Sanderson's website. However, there is very little link between them.

Jerome Terrell I thought I was the only one that felt like this. The book is not gripping me and I’m considering Dnf’ing but I don’t hate it...I’m just bored lol

Bookworm I guess we will see how I go. I read his Reckoners series and really didn't like it. At least I only have to deal with 2 books for now.

Nc23_11 I know I shouldn't be bugged about it, but as a teenager reading this book it is flat out cringey. Like what the fuck is this how adults depict 17 year olds? I'm even a year younger than that! I know, it's different because of the world setting and all that stuff, but like what the heck. Are you kidding me?? It's like teenagers are fucking aliens.

so glad it isnt just me - he just can't write teenagers. even his steelheart series is so cringey. it's like a michael bay film with teenagers but written by an old man.

I'm grateful that you agree haha. I finished the book, it wasn't actually bad, but the starting really irritated me. I don't think he knows how to write teenagers.
