The Suspect (Kate Waters, #3)

2.5/2.75ish stars rounded up to 3
Two eighteen-year-old females (Alex & Rosie) go missing on their gap year in Thailand. When both fail to call home to get their A level results, their parents become concerned and call the authorities.
Kate Waters, a journalist, has not seen her son Jake in years. he too went traveling to Thailand. She hears from him from time to time but doesn't really know what he is doing or where he is. When she learns about the missing girls, her interest in piqued and she also wants to use this time to find her son. She gets close to the two families to get the story and quickly learns that this case is going to hit closer to home than she realized.
For me, this book was slow as in S-L-O-W. The format did not work for me. Plus, I really didn't connect with any of the characters and frankly, I wanted more of the girls and less of their parents. At least the girls were more entertaining.
Sadly, this one just wasn't for me. The premise is great - two girls go missing on a gap year. But unfortunately, I found this hard to get into, I struggled with the middle and even the twist at the end didn't do it for me. I really like when a book can draw me in, and I care about the characters. This was not the case here.
Thank you to the publisher and Edelweiss who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sorry you didn’t connect with the characters and found this one too slow, Debra :( At least you hung in there to the end. Fantastic, honest review!

We agree on this book Debra! It was slow with characters I didn’t connect with. It was a huge disappointment!

Agreed. I was upset that I wasted my time on it. Lesson learned. I need to put down books I am not enjoying. I hope out next books are 5 star reads.

Very disappointing. Next time, I will not force myself to push through a book I am not enjoying.

I hope you enjoy it more than I did Sue! This one lacked character development for me and I was just bored for most of it.

Debra, yes! DNF'ing books I'm not enjoying is one of my 2019 goals. Good luck to both of us :) I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling underwhelmed by this book.

I admire how you still give them an honest and through review even though they waste your time with a poor read.

Thank you Joe! In the future, I will not be finishing books that bore me.

This one was extremely disappointing and beside being slow, seemed quite implausible. I, too, should have placed it on the DNF shelf.
