Update on December 24, 2020:
I listened to this on audio this time around; something a bit different for me. I enjoyed the narration quite a lot, but there's nothing that beats reading Dickens in print. This story never fails to cheer, inspire, and give me pause to reflect on those things that I hold most dear in my life. Here's to a 2021 that will hopefully shine much brighter than 2020!
Original review (2016):
When I think of Christmas and all those things that make Christmas so special, A Christmas Carol immediately comes to mind right along with family, friends, beautiful Christmas trees, Mom’s anise cut-out cookies, brilliant holiday light displays, gently falling snow, festive instrumental and choral concerts, quiet, reflective moments, and angel trees. A Christmas Carol truly is a timeless classic and a beloved tradition, whether you see the movie or read the book. The blessing of this treasure is that you don’t have to celebrate Christmas to enjoy and appreciate this novella. The message is there for anyone that celebrates life and family and giving to others, those who want to examine their life and make the most of it and share it with others. Furthermore, it’s a winner all the way around – aside from the powerful message, we are also rewarded with a wonderfully written and atmospheric story. So, if you have a morsel of time you can spare in the next couple of days, treat yourself to a well-deserved break and grab a copy of this book. As you journey into those Christmases of Past, Present, and Future with Ebenezer Scrooge, your heart will feel lighter and your spirit revived as you hopefully gear up for not simply the chaos of the holidays but also the gifts of love, fellowship and gratitude.
I wish for joy and peace for each and every one of you this holiday season and the coming year.
"I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future."

I'm really enjoying reading through it as well. Not sure I'll finish in time for Christmas, since I'm reading it out loud at the kids' bedtime, but it's been a lot of fun!

Beautiful review, Candi :-) I'm actually already missing the Christmas season because it's the only really close family time we have and I just love it ❤

Thank you so much, Melissa! I have my tree up yet, I do hate that it seems to rush by so quickly. It is my favorite time of year - minus the snow of course!

We still have our tree up and a few neighbors still have lights on outside. We usually leave the tree up until Feb but mom needs surgery sometime in Feb or March so they will probably take it down this weekend :-(. I'm going to see if I can talk them into one more week. I love turning it on in he morning when I get up and looking at the beauty of it. It's so quiet and serene at that time. I'm not good in the mornings with my panic but I can still enjoy the beauty of the tree. I wish we would get weather cold enough for snow. I love Winter so much but it doesn't stay cold here long any more. It's the only time I can go outside and not freak clean out or walk with my dad and my dog at a park. When it's really cold and it's nice if it's really cold and sunny bebcause we can take pretty pictures. I love going out on the yard in the really cold and the moon too. I'm hoping we get to this year if it gets cold and we get a clear sky because we have a huge telescope we haven't used yet!
Okay, I didn't mean to write you a book :-)

Melissa, I love to hear what my friends are up to and what gives them joy! So write away anytime! I'm not a big fan of too hot or too cold, lol. Although, the snow is definitely very pretty as long as one can sit inside and just look at it without worrying about boots, cleaning cars, and driving on slippery roads! It didn't bother me when I was younger, but I don't like that part of it anymore. My parents had friends that used to leave their tree up through Valentine's Day and then they would put little heart ornaments all over it. I always thought this was a great idea, but I've never left it up long enough to try it. Maybe someday :)
I have tried to talk mom and dad to leave it up all year round for years. I had seen in a magazine when I was younger, where this person decorated the tree for each month!! I wanted to do bad but they didn't. And I don't have room in the rec room/basement where I stay. I have too many bookcases and stacks for a tree !!
Anyway, the showed pictures of the different trees and the obvious holidays like Valentine, St. Patrick's, Halloween, Easter but they also did random nature trees or whatever. Oh the joy :-)

That would be lovely to decorate the tree for each holiday, Melissa!

I know, I always thought it sounded like so much fun. But, alas, it is not to be.
I think we need to do a Christmas in July read.

It truly is a story with something for everyone and makes a lovely yearly tradition. This and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas: or Account of a Visit from St. Nicholas always serve to make me feel Christmas has finally arrived.
Blessings for this Christmas season, Candi, and wishes that 2021 will be the best year ever.

It is comforting to have traditions like this, Sara. I also like the idea of reading Capote's A Christmas Memory each year as well.
Wishing you all the best in the coming year and hoping that your newest adventure goes smoothly and that you feel happily settled before long!

Thanks so much, Lorna! Wishing you and yours the very best during the holidays as well. Fingers crossed we get over this hump and have a 'normal' life to look forward to again soon :)
