This book gave me more feels and truth bombs about myself than I was prepared for. So much so that I had to write an 800+ word blog post about them.

I really enjoyed reading Amanda's story even if it feels simplistic but the author acknowledges this in her note to her readers at the end of the story and to me this book is hope for the trans kid/teen to just stick with it because you will get through it. There are assholes in the world but there are also amazing people out there who will love and understand you so what if this seems a bit too easy and fluffy?!

I had a hard time putting the book down at night and read past my bedtime several nights but I only gave this book 4 stars because every time I started reading again at night I was confused by the side characters. Amanda finds this group of female friends at school and to me, they were all too underdeveloped. I couldn't keep them apart. Sometimes a name was mentioned and I didn't even know who she was. Was she the closeted lesbian? The one with the car? The religious one? But that's really my only gripe with the book.

A couple of nights while reading this book I ended up with all the parent feels because Amandas parents are pretty great Her father not so much in the beginning but her mother. Hot damn, she made me miss my own mother so much! And I guess I've progressed to that age where I identify both with the kid and the mother so yeah, there is that. Am I growing up for real?!

Anyway, the book was lovely and I'm only sad my paperback cover doesn't have the girl on it. Don't get me wrong, the design is lovely but the other one was better imo.
