All the stars!
Loved, loved this book!

I'm not sure what to say in this review that hasn't been said by others. I was blown away by how great this book was. It was so much better then the movie!

The slow progression of insanity with Jack Torrance was one of the best things about this book. I loved the overall menacing presence of The Overlook. I loved how the hotel becomes more violent and threatening to Danny and his family the longer they stay there. It was so gripping and overwhelming as the story unfolded. You just couldn't quit reading!
I enjoyed Danny's struggle as a kid with understanding his 'gifts' and how to use them in a positive way.

Danny, don't you dare go into room 217!

This whole book was just awesome! This review doesn't give this book justice for how great it is. I recommend this book to Stephen King fans and horror lovers.

One of the best books out there! GO READ IT!

That's what everyone is saying! I'm so excited to read this Corey. :D

Corey That's awesome, keep me informed on how you're liking it!

Ginger For sure Corey!

Ellen Gail It's for sure a five star read, and my favorite King so far. Looking forward to your review!

Ginger Such a great book Diana & Wendy!

I forgot to mention it, but you're right, this is MILES better than the movie, which I don't like all that much anyway.

I'm having such trouble with The Stand right now, which depresses me. I don't like not liking King!

Ellen, I've never read The Stand. The shear size of it has kept me away. ha!!
I'm sorry that you're having trouble with it. Are you going to finish it or do a DNF?

The movie for The Shining just made Jack crazy from the beginning instead of this slow progression which I loved. Lots of things that were much better in the book! I totally agree with you.

I may finish it. I'm almost halfway, but then again that's still over 500 pages left. So right now it's not safe from being DNFed, but I'll push on a little longer if I can.

Ginger What did you think I said Craig?! 😂😂

Ginger Good luck Ellen. I hope the last 1/2 gets better for you!

Greta Samuelson One of my favorite King books. Now you’ll have to read Dr. Sleep!

Some! I've seen a few and they're either hit or miss. I saw that Netflix has two new movie adaptations out, "1922" and "Gerald's Game".
Shawkshank = Hit!
Thinner = Miss! haha

Oh god haha, may still watch it just for the laugh!! In your opinion what has been the best adaptation, i guess Shawshank for you? I love that plus Stand by me and despite the large amount of missing content the old IT movie☺

I would have to say Shawshank, Stand By Me, The Green Mile, Misery and the new It so far.

King did not like Kubrick's version of THE SHINING because it wasn't very faithful to his novel. However, some years ago, a mini-series TV movie of THE SHINING was created and it was quite well done, IMO. Very in keeping with the book.

While I didn't get to see the entire adaptation, the parts I saw were great, and the actors were excellent. It might be available on DVD/blue ray.

I just looked it up. How was Steven Weber as Jack? All I remember him from is "Wings"! lol
I'm totally going to look for it now. :)

He NAILED it, IMO!

I'm reading "the complete uncut edition" too. It's so massive, thank goodness I have it on Kindle. And there are such good moments, but it feels like such a slog sometimes. How does the second half compare to the first?

Ummm.....not sure if i should say as it's only my opinion but could have spoilers....ok, as events race towards the finish i expected a finish akin to a certain movie with 2 in the title, in fact my paperback had some illustrations and one made me think of....that movie, anyway didn't happen and it all seemed, i guess rather quick to finish after all of that build up. Sorry about being obscure haha😁

Hahaha! Thanks Craig. I've been meaning to get a decent review on this book for a month now. I finally got it done and it's good enough.
The episode that you're talking about is one of the best chapters in the book. So creepy and good!
