I have the book but haven't gotten around to it. I'm afraid I'm not going to like it. I hope you like it better this time around. I hope I like it the first time around :-/

Well there might be fourth if I ever get around to it, or I might like it. I'm not sure why I bought it because it doesn't sound that great to me but then again I might like it. I think I got it on sale.
I got the Kindle versions of both this and the second book when they were on sale for a couple of dollars, so they're just sitting around on my iPad waiting to be read. I'll be a little bummed if I don't like them after I've spent the money to buy them, but I comfort myself with the thought that it's less than I spend on a lunch. :)
Hope you like it more this time. I lurv this trilogy!! so I'm very biased. haha

Well at least you didn't pay much. I have the paperback of the first one when it was on sale. Everyone likes it so much I thought I would try it but not sure when, I have more books I want to read first :-)

Good luck! I think a lot of people found that it got better after the first few chapters. (I'm one of the few that thought those first few chapters were the high point, haha.)

Oh no! That concerns me. But knowing my personal tastes, I'll probably like this more once it goes all Hunger Gamesy and leaves behind Oppression and Death in the Mines of Mars.
IIRC, I also rather disliked the main character in the first few chapters, who struck me as an impetuous teenage know-it-all (a character type I despise), but I'll give him another shot.

I've come really close to starting a couple times but convinced myself I wouldn't like it. I'm committed to reading it this February and giving it a fair try. We'll see how it goes haha.
Same thing happened to me. I was skeptical when I read the cover; it sounded like the typical YA dystopia setup. I read a little ways in and it was exactly what I suspected it to be - not bad, but pretty formulaic and nothing to get worked up about. But so many people get worked up about it! So I'm curious to see what you think if you do manage to finish it.
