Wow, I liked this. 3.5 stars

I hated Something Borrowed a lot more than I let on in my short review, so no one is more surprised than me at how much I ended up enjoying this book. The Darcy we meet in the beginning of this story is the same manipulative, selfish bitch that we saw in the first book, but I gotta say - there was a certain frankness, an honesty to her narrative (something that I found completely lacking in Rachel’s), and I couldn’t help but be drawn to it.

Darcy’s beauty has been the source of her confidence ever since she can remember, it shaped her personality and defined who she was. She acknowledges this and is completely unapologetic in her extremely shallow outlook on life. In this book, however, she reaches a point where she is forced to face some hard truths about herself, and in the process, reevaluates everything about her life.

The ending was sweet and made me go “awwwww”, but overall, I thought the second half felt too rushed and I had a hard time buying into a big part of it. (view spoiler) I would have rounded my rating up had it not been for that.

-ya I was considering to read Something Borrowed after watching the movie. But I decided to vote against it cuuuuz I thought Darcy character was selfish and I might get mad at her again. lol
ps: I recently watched Divergence and it was not good. The novel is much better:/

Maida Did you love Ethan in this novel just as much as you did in the 1st book? Btw, great review, Mich! I'm so glad that you liked this one. :)

Yeah, Darcy is pretty unlikable. . . but somehow, I liked her more than Rachel. I guess I connect more to characters who are bitches? ;)

I saw Divergent not too long ago too! :) I kinda thought it was gonna suck REALLY bad, so I don’t know if it was cuz my expectations were so low but I actually thought it was pretty decent. Although, for sure, there were many parts that made me cringe :P But I really liked how the simulations were filmed, and that dude who plays Four is pretty hot, so I was okay with it overall ;)

Thanks, Jill :) You know, I never really knew what the difference was between chick-lit and contemporary romance. . .cuz I don’t think I’ve ever read a chick lit book that didn’t have romance in it. I wonder if there’s something more to it? I should google it (hehe, don’t mind me, I’m just thinking out loud).

Mich, I agree w/ you on ALL points! I loved Ethan throughout the novel, but especially during the parts that you mentioned. (view spoiler)

Olga Great review! I read Something Borrowed years ago, but decided not to give this one a try. I couldn't imagine reading a whole book from Darcy's POV. Interesting that you liked her voice more than Rachel's.

-ya Yep. Four was pretty hot:] Oh. Tris was a bit too neat in the movie. Her face wasn't even bruised or swollen after she was beaten up badly??? K. duh, how did I go from chatting Something Borrowed to Divergence?? lol. My bad:/

Yeah, I guess Rachel was too much of a pushover for me. I was somehow able to respect Darcy more than her, despite her being completely spoiled and shallow :)

Lol, I didn’t notice that about her face, but yeah, that’s weird! And I totally followed your train of thought - books that became movies, makes perfect sense! Hehe, I caught on to the transition in conversation topic, no worry! :)
