Jakes, Hell or High Water Series - it is probably my favorite of the series thus far! I know this is only book two, but I think this book laid a lot out there for the reader and showed a lot about our characters! Not to mention - HOT.AS.F*CK! Prophet and Tommy will make you blush in this book! So good!
I am not going to so a huge synopsis review, those are all over the place - this book is 4 years old afterall. However, I do want to lay some details out there for newbies like me who are just going into this series. First, like book one I previously listened to this story - did not like it. As mentioned before, there is something about me and the narrator - we don't click. I wasn't even going to read book three after my impression of the series via audio, but I came back a year later - and READ the stories. Love them! This just goes to show, sometimes it's worth giving a story a second chance. I want to let you all know that simply because I would hate anyone to miss out on this story due to a narrator. Some people loved him. So, take it with a grain of salt.
Now, this book. Where do I start? This is the book that gets deep. You will learn a lot in this story about our guys and you will leave this story with questions. It's that type of storyline. Facts are revealed. Ideas are subtlety mentioned, foreshadowing - is rampant. In the middle of all of this, A Hurricane - A Murder - An Alligator - A Fortune Teller - Family Drama - A Spy and A Thief - The Team - Sex...lots and lots of hot as hell sex, And more.. yes, this book is full of action!
Prophet will keep you on your toes, he is a volcano trapped inside a body. Full of energy and ready to explode *pun intended* - "No one had ever tamed Prophet. Tom could only hope to possibly keep the man’s interest while letting him run wild." Tommy, he is the cooling storm, the hurricane, he balances Prophet yet still allows him to be wild. Together they are the perfect yin-yang - There is a certain je ne sais quoi about this duo, they are what each other needs.
I lovee this scene between the Tommy & Prophet, after wrestling a real gator...
"Looking squarely into Tom’s eyes, Prophet knew what—who—he had a kink for. And the voodoo bastard knew it too. Knew it. Liked it. Used it to his advantage whenever he could. Like now. “What?” “Want me to roll you?” Tom asked. “Not funny.” But Prophet was rock hard. Tom stalking over to him and crowding him wasn’t helping. “You still have that duct tape?” “Yeah. Why?” “Come on, bebe. Let’s play gator.” Prophet hated the way his body responded yes—eagerly—to that question. “Think you wanna. ’M’I wrong?” Tom’s drawl was thick as hell, went right down Prophet’s spine, as the man’s hand snaked around Prophet’s waist and pushed his own hard cock against Prophet’s cargo pant-clad one. “Yes.” “’S’okay to admit you were turned on by it,” Tom murmured. “You’re turned on too,” Prophet pointed out, wanted to tell him to stop talking all Cajun-like, too. “I’m not the one denying it.” Tom ground his pelvis into Prophet’s. “You can’t lie for shit.” “Only around you.” “Good to hear you admit it.” “Wanna know the secret to wrestling alligators?” “Yeah, sure, tell me, cher.” Tom smiled at Prophet’s use of the affectionate word. “It’s desire. The one with the most desire wins.” “Then I’m winning this one, Tommy.” “That’s what you think.”
Overall, I highly recommend this book - you will be in love with Prophet and Tommy, just like I am - 5 Stars!

This is my first time reading this author and I will definitely be looking for more of her work in the future. The MCs are Belle & Jack, they are perfect for each other!!
Thirty-year-old Belle Albany is feeling lonely this Christmas. Another whole year has passed and her life is… exactly the same as it was last December. She longs for true love and a little bit of winter magic – but she’s almost given up on finding it in the sleepy Scottish community where she lives…
Jack is arrogant, rude and bossy and Belle is convinced he’s about to ruin the seasonal cheer she has worked hard to create. He’s basically the Grinch in human form, so why does her heart race every time they’re in the same room? They disagree on almost everything, from menu choices to music, and yet she starts to glimpse a softer side hidden behind Jack’s clipped words and brooding countenance.
The attraction between these two is very hot and each moment they spend together the intensity grows. Belle hopes this is the year she will finally get her happily ever after but Jack isn’t sure everything will be so easy.
This gorgeous, festive read is like a warm hug in a book! The perfect cosy romance to snuggle up with and simply enjoy no matter the season! I highly recommend this book and encourage you to give it a try!!

Although others have written books such as this Landsverk’s is unique as it also includes what a person with dementia will likely experience - not only the family.
As a provider who diagnoses and treats hundreds of patients with dementia (Alzheimer’s Disease, frontotemporal dementia, Vascular Dementia, Lewy Body Disease, Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, and mixed dementia) I can tell you that diagnosing a patient with dementia can be very challenging and there is often significant pushback from patients and family members. Until recently with the development of medication such as Lecanemab and the newly approved donanemab there were no actual treatment options - all we had are the Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors to slow down disease progression and the NMDA receptor antagonist memantine. Even with the two new medications there are limitations to which patient can receive them as they both focus on the “mild” disease stage. Not having viable treatment options for all patients with dementia is very hard to explain to patients and even harder for them to accept.
As an expert in her field, Dr. Elizabeth Landsverk, founder of ElderConsult Geriatric Medicine, has led thousands of patients through a brain disease diagnosis, equipping them with knowledge, tools, and support to help them live happy and engaged lives. She shares her expertise in this practical reference that offers helpful explanations, advice, and guidance through an often confusing and challenging new landscape. Dr. Landsverk’s advice covers understanding the disease itself to managing a patient’s aggression and paranoia, from protecting against elder abuse to creating a long-range plan for patients and caregivers that includes home care, assisted living, and hospice care. LIVING IN THE MOMENT promises a plan that will minimize medication, treat pain, and relieve agitation, without falling back on standard medical approaches.
I will be recommending this book to all of my patients with dementia!

Kate Bateman delivers a captivating Regency romance in *How to Fall for a Scoundrel*, the second book in the *Her Majesty’s Rebels* series. This novel masterfully blends adventure, intrigue, and steamy romance with Bateman’s signature wit and charm.
**What I Loved:**
- **Dynamic Protagonists:** Eleanor Law, a clever investigator, meets her match in Harry, a reformed thief with a mysterious past. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their banter is electric. Bateman skillfully crafts their relationship, making every interaction a delightful mix of tension and attraction.
- **Exciting Plot:** The story is filled with thrilling escapades, including sneaking into the Tower of London and unraveling secrets that keep you on the edge of your seat. The narrative’s balance of romance and suspense is spot-on, ensuring a thoroughly engaging read.
**Favorite Quotes:** - “To acquire knowledge, one must study; but to acquire wisdom, one must observe.” - “You are remarkable. Never forget it.”
**Conclusion:** *How to Fall for a Scoundrel* is a delightful mix of romance and adventure that will leave readers swooning and eagerly anticipating the next installment. If you enjoy strong heroines, charming rogues, and witty banter, this book is a must-read.
Winning Her Duke is book one in the Scots & Scoundrels series by author Allison B. Hanson. I had previously read this author’s “ Clan MacKinlay SeriesWinning Her Duke is book one in the Scots & Scoundrels series by author Allison B. Hanson. I had previously read this author’s “ Clan MacKinlay Series” and absolutely loved it, so I was happy to see a new series by her featuring a Scottish hero. I have to say that I absolutely loved this book! Our hero is not your typical Scot as he enjoys being in London versus being in Scotland and the heroine in this story is the one who does not enjoy London society and could care less about balls, frippery, and marriage. I enjoyed this flipped aspect with the Hero/heroine as most historical romances have the MCs set up exactly the opposite so it was a fun change.
Never fear though our MCs connect with their love of horses - which again is a bit unique. I loved that this story kept me on my toes so to speak and didn’t necessarily follow the standard plot for historical romance.
Another 5 Star story from Hanson and I am eagerly awaiting the next books in this series!

This was a really fun book that I bought on a whim because of the cover models! Yes I can admit ... I am a cover ho at times!! So our story begins in Las Vegas, and as you know what happens in Vegas...doesn't always stay in Vegas, especially when you marry your best-friend during a drunken night of fun! This is what happens between Blake and Xander, these two thirty something guys are both lawyers and have known each other for many, many years. What was suppose to be a fun trip to Vegas to relax ends up being the start of a different type of relationship for these two friends. Oh, did I forget to mention that Blake is straight?!? Yep, that's right he has always been straight; however, that hasn't stopped Xander from being in love with him for years. It also hasn't stopped Xander from never finding love because he has always graded his lovers against an unmeetable standard, known as "I love my straight best-friend and you will never be him, thus you're not good enough"!!
So now these two best-friends are married and I have to say they take it pretty well all things considered. They immediately consider divorce but are both swayed to think that maybe being married to each other isn't the worst thing that could have happened to them and getting divorced may cause more problems in the long-term. This should set off bells and whistles when a straight guy agrees to staying married to another man and the fact that it doesn't led me to believe that Blake was hiding something of himself.
When Blake gets a call that there has been a family emergency, Xander and him fly to Blake's hometown. It is during this trip together that Blake starts to take count of his feelings for Xander and starts to contemplate stuff from his past. After some deep soul searching Blake comes to realize that he may not be so straight after all and when he tells Xander this, the reaction is not one I expected. You would think Xander would be jumping for joy! But it turns out Xander is afraid that this new development may cause him to lose Blake.
These two have a lot of obstacles to overcome if they are going to remain legally wed and first they have to learn to be honest with each other and themselves. Sometimes facing yourself is harder than facing someone else - especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Will these toe get their happily ever after? Go get this book and find out..I recommend this book and the cover is a nice piece of eye candy!!

While I work on this authors backlog of stories she continues to turn out fantastic stories. I really enjoyed this book and felt like I was pulled back in time experiencing the story right alongside the characters. I love that her stories completely capture my attention and the vivid descriptions allow me to feel like I am traveling Scotland!

I have a soft spot for neurodivergent characters getting their HEA.
Eli King & Ava King née Nash were meant to be from the moment little Eli became obsessed and protective of baby Ava - he was drawn to her no matter how hard the universe, Ava’s Dad, and even himself tried to fight it. Ava has been in love with Eli since she realized what love was - neither Eli or Ava would have ever allowed the other to find a HEA with anyone else.
This story took years of heartache, confusion, obsession, self-sacrifice, self-hatred, and just all together pain … and ended by bringing two “slightly” damaged people together. It’s actually a great story of love and soulmates conquering everything and finding their own way to the happily ever after they both deserve. (Yes, even of their fathers “hate” each other even they finally have to admit that Eli and Ava complete each other.)
While this book is the last of Rina Kent’s “Legacy of Gods” series - it is also the culmination of an epic tale that began with these characters parents. I think reading the entire “Rinaverse” before this book made this tale so much more powerful. Seeing all the couples having made it through all the different hell’s they survived and ultimately ending in one huge connected family was actually pretty satisfying!...more
