2) Hawaii has such a special and unique history and here is a primary source of Hawaiian Victorian life at the end of the monarchy. I feel respect and love for Queen Liliuokalani. The end of the Hawaiian monarchy made me very sad. It is an important story to hear, because history repeats itself and we need to learn from our mistakes. I chose the book to learn about Hawaiian history, but I also enjoyed the more frivolous parts that described Hawaiian Victorian social engagements and clothing from a first-hand perspective....more
