I'm not saying that I don't believe in the existence of trauma or that I think people who have experienced it are somehow weaker than others—I absolutely don't. But as someone who has experienced trauma, I've often felt like the topic is misunderstood by society at large, and that can make it hard to trust books about it.
I am so happy to say that this is not the case with Unbroken: The Trauma Response Is Never Wrong by MaryCatherine McDonald. Dr. McDonald is a researcher, teacher, and survivor who has dedicated her life to understanding trauma and the ways in which it can be healed. In this book, she overturns common misconceptions about trauma and shares tools and practices to help readers work with their bodies' coping mechanisms to accelerate healing.
Dr. McDonald's passion for her subject is clear on every page of this book, and her knowledge is impeccable. She draws on the latest research from neuroscience and psychology to explain why the body's trauma response is never wrong—and in doing so, she empowers readers to trust their own instincts and intuition when it comes to healing from trauma.
This book is an important read for anyone who has experienced trauma, as well as for anyone who wants to understand more about what trauma is and how it can be healed. It's filled with compassion, wisdom, and hope, and it left me feeling inspired to continue my own journey of healing. Thank you, Dr. McDonald, for writing this essential guide to unbreaking our hearts....more

Straight up a masterpiece.
I have read over 100 books this year and this one is one of the best I’ve read in my entire life!
In The Light Pirate, Lily Brooks-Dalton has crafted a beautifully written and deeply affecting novel about the enduring strength of community in the face of natural disaster.
The story follows Wanda, a young girl growing up in Florida as it begins to crumble under the effects of climate change. As the state descends into chaos, Wanda loses her family and finds herself living with a new community of survivors who have learned to adapt to the new, wild landscape.
What makes this novel so powerful is Brooks-Dalton's skillful portrayal of the ways in which people can come together in times of crisis, forming bonds that last long after the disaster has passed. We see Wanda grow from a child into an adult, adjusting not only to the changing scenery but also to the people who stayed behind in a region abandoned by society.
The Light Pirate is told in four parts—power, water, light, and time—reflecting the cycles of the elements and the sometimes fast, sometimes gradual breakdown of the world as we know it. It is a meditation on the changes we don't want to see, the future we don't want to face, and a return to the beauty and violence of an untamable wilderness.
This is a powerful and important novel that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.

This is a gripping and suspenseful account of a nurse in Denmark who is suspected of deliberately killing patients. Corfixen does an excellent job of creating a sense of tension and drama, making the reader feel like they are right there alongside the investigators as they try to solve the mystery.
The Nurse is an excellent read for anyone interested in crime thrillers, or in learning more about how investigations work. Corfixen provides a detailed and fascinating look at the evidence-gathering process, and he makes it clear that no detail is too small when trying to solve a crime. The Nurse is an addictive and suspenseful book that will keep you hooked until the very end.
I refuse to believe this actually happened. The moral part of me is utterly shocked. A dark part of me can't wait for this to become a TV show or movie.

But, while Hunter seeks for a means to save them, another evil threatens Goodeville. Amphitrite is still on the horizon, and she intends to get revenge on Hunter. This novel was marginally better than the prior two. Nonetheless, it is not pleasurable. The writing was poor. It was tough for me to keep track of all of the different characters and their corresponding plotlines. The ending felt rushed and incomplete....more

The story is narrated by her sister Genevieve, who is estranged from her and tries to uncover the secrets of her past in order to find out what happened to her. I found the premise of the book to be very intriguing and was looking forward to reading more about Celia and her life.
The writing is blistering and emotive, and I couldn't help but feel utterly absorbed in the story.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed with some of the execution of the novel. While I liked getting to know Celia and some of her backstory, I felt that many aspects of the plot were left unexplored or unresolved. For example, who assaulted Celia and took her purse and phone? Was it her sister? What happened to Isabel? What was the significance of the disturbing note she received on her birthday? Who wrote it? These are just a few of the questions that were not answered satisfactorily in my opinion.
Overall, Gone Again had potential but ultimately fell a bit short for me. I would give it 3.5 stars out of 5....more

The Millionaire's Wife by Shalini Boland is a heart-wrenching story of love, betrayal, and secrets. Told from the dual perspectives of Anna ten-years apart, the novel provides a rich and layered exploration of the events that have led to her current situation.
The story begins with Anna receiving an email from an unknown sender, containing a shocking image. This image leads her to realize that she knows who killed the woman in the picture - her first love, Finn. To protect herself and her husband Will, she must tell him the truth about her relationship with Finn. However, as she begins to reveal her secrets, Anna realizes that she is not the only one who has been living a lie.
This book is an excellent example of how a powerful and compelling story can be told through the eyes of a character who is facing an extremely difficult situation. The author does an excellent job of creating a believable and sympathetic protagonist, which makes the reader feel invested in her story.
The narration is strong and really enhances the story. The narrator does a great job of differentiating between the characters' voices and creating a sense of tension and suspense. This is a well-written and well-performed audiobook that will keep listeners engaged until the very end.
The Millionaire's Wife is an intense and gripping read that will keep readers hooked until the very end. The characters are well-developed and believable, and the plot is full of twists and turns.
I listened to it all in one sitting. I can't recall the last time I tried such a task. Unfortunately, I did this while my husband wasn't home and would not recommend doing this - the book gets creepy at times and I'm startled easily.
Highly recommend.

When a long-awaited surgery forces both families to live together, the girls can't ignore their reluctantly shared past… including all those times they've almost kissed.
This book was so refreshing. It's brave, bold, and honest. I loved the characters and the story was heartwarming and touching. Penny and Tate are both very full characters with rich histories and complicated relationships with each other, with their mothers, and with their circumstances. I loved watching them grow closer as they got to know each other better!
The writing was engrossing, the story flowed beautifully, the story was poetic, it's the perfect coming of age story. There were some great funny moments in the book, but it also dealt with some heavy themes in an honest and thought-provoking way. This is a great story on trauma and identity (sexual and otherwise) packaged as a YA story. These are the best ones.
I really wish I could share some quotes on this review because there are a ton of really thought-provoking ones. I could have highlighted the entire book, that's how well it was written.
In case it is not extremely clear with my review, I highly recommend Six Times We Almost Kissed (And One Time We Did) to fans of contemporary young adult fiction.
