This has no plot to speak of BUT an insanely cool world and kaan vaegor who deserves 2 stars just for existing. And I liked the writing. Other than that, I don’t know if I’m interested in the sequel because this book did a whole lot of nothing. Zero reveals were made and I suppose the epilogue could be shocking but I’ve read so much fantasy that it really wasn’t for me. I wish we’d seen 5x more of the aether stone because THAT seemed super cool and just more of the girl who wears it in general because she seemed super interesting. Raeve was funny but SO stubborn that I wanted to just smack her against a wall. She wanted to be naïve and for what??? She says knowledge is power and proceeds to run from it at every chance she gets. Like she never once thinks of the positives of knowing her past life…. And also I get she wore a veil in her last life but did no one ever see her???? Ever?? Or hear her because her voice is the same and it’s odd how no one ever mistook her for elluin before or how she just never learnt of her? Maybe because she’s stupid but oh well. Kaan deserves much better than Raeve. And I get that she’ll probably have an emotional arc for development but I don’t see how she can make herself more likable to me. The romance isn’t there yet because Raeve refuses to feel emotions so you get yearning from Kaan that was chef’s kiss but that’s it. The sex felt odd to me and I would have preferred a true slowburn until she accepts who she is. The world as I said was top notch and not confusing at all for me, it’s pretty straightforward. The lack of plot was annoying because Raeve doesn’t do much the whole book, things happen to her and she plans stuff that she never does. I also am unsure exactly how the plot will expand because we haven’t really met any of the tyrant kings yet so I’m undecided as to ‘are they really bad or is there a more evil villain?’ Did we need veyla’s POV???? No not really. She was fun but I still don’t get why we needed to see her do anything at all? I may pick up the sequel depending on its reviews. I liked this, but not sure if I loved it enough to pick up another presumably 700+ paged book. ...more

The highlight of this book was hands down the writing. It is a purply prose that is gorgeously executed and detailed. Truly it is a joy to read. I feel this book would have been rather mediocre if the writing style had been any different. Although nothing else in particular stood out to me (our main character Fia is okay, the love triangle is annoying as expected, the endgame love interest Irian is just any other dark and brooding character, and the plot is a bit weak with a lot of meandering around. I was intrigued by the premise but there are a lot of chapters when Fia is unable to enter the fae lands and just gardens for pages on end and fights with Rogan) I do see myself reading the sequel for more of the writing. It seriously is phenomenal. ...more

This wasn’t my cup of tea at all I’m afraid. My biggest qualm with this book was the writing style. It was very, very weird in word choice and also structure. A chapter would end on a cliffhanger and the next one starts with our main character thinking about her childhood for 3 pages before getting back to telling us what’s going on, and it just sort of makes the anticipation not build up as much as it could have. The final sequence of the book being just talking was an interesting choice, just as not describing the battle scene was. I can’t say that I found the romance cute because I didn’t honestly think that Misery and Lowe interacted enough throughout the book for it to be believable. Would Lowe have even loved her if she hadn’t been his mate?? I personally found Misery to be insufferable but whether that was her personality or the atrocious first person writing style of this is the true question, and it’s likely a mix of both. I really enjoyed ‘The Love Hypothesis’ and I’ll likely stick to Ali’s rom com books in the future!...more

This was such a unique concept for a book and I actually really enjoyed it. There was for sure a pull within the novel’s pages just to see how everything in this dystopian world worked. Thank you so much to Maggie for the e-ARC! This was a fantastic conclusion to Scarlett and Rune’s story. It’s dark and hard to read at times, but it is also a tale of discovering who *you* are in your soul and coming into your full power. Scarlett’s journey was so amazing to read. As always, the romance was extremely sweet, and it felt very believable as well. All in all, this was a great conclusion to the Eternal Obsession Duet, and I have a feeling Kylo will be getting a novel next ...more

So saddened to give this book a lower rating than the first one but I truly just did not enjoy it as much. The story lacks urgency and the stakes feel so low. The writing is beautiful as always, but I didn’t feel an emotional connection to any of the characters this time around. I felt like there was very little plot to be found in this book and that the ending came out of nowhere with characters I had little memory of from book 1 suddenly becoming very important. The ending made zero sense to me and I don’t know how any of those events will feed into book 3 or how any of these plot lines will eventually connect. I unfortunately just felt like this book had a lot of filler and limited character development to justify the whole lot of nothing that happened.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the e-ARC!...more
