Seeing as how the writer is a linguist I kind of wanted the book to go more in depth into how to recognize it and how it's different from authentic enthusiasm.
Also anyone who joins a high-control group has a moment when they think, or when a friend says, "this is fishy" or "this is too good to be true" or "what was that about? I don't like that bit" and so I would love if every book on the topic, if nothing else, encouraged people to trust their gut or listen to warnings from their friends.
So when the conclusion was that Cultish is fun and you can safely dip your toe in without getting hurt it did the opposite of that and I was disappointed.
But it's a really enjoyable read and it's fantastic that a book with this topic is doing so well, because I really want everyone to know at least some red flags so they can protect themselves and their friends from esssssssssssential oil sssssssalesmen....more
