He came off as a flighty, shallow and too much into partying at first and then Tate and Logan were witness to his serious and somber side. What brought that change, had been the unknown and was not quite answered in this book. However, it did show Robbie as a combination of these two personalities, a family loving guy who is responsible and caring but also this sassy fun person who can liven up a party as well as a loving duo. (Priest and Julien) We don't find out a lot of about Priest or Julien, but we do get understand why Robbie is necessary to them. They love each other but have an unconventional open relationship which has worked so far, but it seems that they have been searching for a special someone bring some laughter and sunshine into their lives. Turns our Robbie is just the one. Despite his initial reservations around the serious Priest and mischievous Julien, Robbie is able to chip away and make a place for himself in their hearts and beds. ;-) I have read a few threesome books and many of them are just sex sex sex with just position after position. However this book is very balanced in its approach; its not lacking in the steam factor (fanning myself) but at its core, it is still about a lovable young man opening his heart to the unknown. This book is just beginning of this journey for the trio; although a HFN, Ella Frank has left her readers wanting to know more about Julien and more about Priest and how they will cope with what the world is throwing at them. Can't wait for May!! :-)...more
Actual 3.5 stars. I really liked "Finley" the first of the series, but somehow this one was not quite upto the standards of an Ella Frank book. Maybe Actual 3.5 stars. I really liked "Finley" the first of the series, but somehow this one was not quite upto the standards of an Ella Frank book. Maybe having read so many of her books, my expectations were high, nevertheless "Devil's Kiss" never really took off for me. It seemed like I kept waiting for this to settle into the juicy part of the story. The story is more about Derek than Jordan. We find out about Derek's dysfunctional family and tough life with an abusive father. He has had a troubled childhood and teen years and kudos to Ella Frank for building such a great character, you sympathize with Derek and root for him , but also understand the hidden shame that he holds deep in his heart and why he has these walls around him. However, we find out very little about Jordan except what we knew already, we never find out why he is so hesitant about having a relationship? the student and teacher excuse was only for a year but what was the holdup after that? What was his journey like? The other aspect that bothered me was the time jumps, it felt too long for them to get together, it was on and off and on and off so many times that we never really got comfortable about their relationship. (view spoiler)[ When Jordan and Derek decide to finally get together, there is time jump of 6 months and Derek says the dreaded L word, we the readers are as taken aback as Jordan.. neither of us saw it coming!!!??? (hide spoiler)] Despite all of that, it was still an enjoyable read. It gave closure and the epilogue was very nice as far as happy ever after is concerned. I am looking forward to Dylan's book since we touched on his tough upbringing too. ...more
