As if the life of the Baudelaire children hasn't been made awful enough by losing their parents, they have to live with a distant cousin, the horrible Count Olaf, who doesn't provide a good living space for children to live and makes them do chores.
I've seen this series around, and considering how it's an older series and with that also a popular one it would've been impossible not to see it. However, I never took interest in it. Now, thanks to the Fright Night Games, I picked it and ended up pleasantly surprised by it. ...more

The characters didn’t have enough chemistry for me, and that brought down the BDSM sex scenes. ...more

There’s something about the lMagical realism is something I haven’t had the pleasure to read a lot, but I’m discovering that it is a subgenre I like. There’s something about the lyrical writing that confuses the heck out of you.
I love the “Alice in Wonderland” world, or maybe I should say worlds, McGuire has created, and I can’t wait to explore them all. However, these stories being novellas is, on one hand, great because I’ll finish them faster, but also it gets the problem of not being able to explore characters and the world in depth. ...more

It would appear that the stories get more developed and longer with every next story in the series.
The trope in this one is a forced fake relationship. I liked the chemistry between Brigit and Chad a tad more than between Maddie and Chase in the previous story because we get to see more of it as it develops. However, even though I felt the attraction I didn’t feel their being in love after a month or so of knowing each other... but that’s a me thing. And the ending was a little out of nowhere, and a little unbelievable for me (view spoiler)[- an alleged player that didn’t want to settle down proposes after a month of lusting and knowing someone. (hide spoiler)] I'm enjoying these novellas....more

I don’t mind that it was a novella, but it could’ve been a little longer to show us those years of yearning. It was sweet. I liked the couple and the whole situation, even though childhood friends to lovers is a trope I usually don’t like. However, the massive miscommunication was a tad annoying, and because of that, I’m thankful that it’s not a full-length novel. ...more

There aren’t many historical romance authors that I enjoy reading. Now that I think about it, besides Tessa Dare, occasionally Amanda Quick, and maybe Evie Dunmore, I haven’t liked other authors’ books when I tried reading them, so this is such an amazing find.
The writing is the perfect amount of description and dialogue. For a novella the characters are well developed, even the side characters, which I have to say surprised me. Usually, the main characters are fleshed out, while the side characters are husks whose purpose is to help develop the main ones; it was a refreshment. ...more
