The author doesn’t know what she wants for the characters. I get that there’s some miscommunication about a past event that makes the MC hate the male MC and that she wants some revenge. But her fucking him in an elevator that has cameras, cameras that guards actively watch, as a distraction for her friend to put glitter on his office seat... WHAT? There’s more stupid stuff like this that made me ask a lot “WHO thinks this is normal behavior, who reads and thinks this could happen”?
It took me more time to read this than I would’ve liked because reading slumps are a bitch.

It took me more time to read this than I would’ve liked because reading slumps are a bitch.
The writing was great and wordier than I’m used to, to be fair I’ve gotten used to audiobooks so much that it may be a problem, but I loved the descriptive writing because it just flows and is easy to read.
The main characters, Kate and Corwin, are well written in my opinion. They are relatable with their fears, insecurities, emotions and their actions, which is refreshing. Other characters were good too, although I would’ve wanted to know more about them, for example, Signe, she’s a mystery. Dal was more present at the beginning where he had more page time, but after that, even though he appeared, he wasn’t as charming, which I understand because things happened.
One thing that wasn’t that great, but I’m not minding it because I liked the writing and the characters, was the plot, or maybe the way it was written. The things happening were too easy for the characters I didn’t feel anxious about the drakes or any other thing that was happening. Things did change a bit towards the end where some action finally happened.
I’m intrigued to see how things will play out in the next book because stuff happened and some stuff needs to get sorted.

I read both of the books relatively fast which feels like a surprise for me. However, that could have something to do with the fact that I haven’t been reading much this year, so every read book is a surprise. The writing was all right, and the world was interesting, albeit it sounded familiar. That familiarity swayed me a bit because it would constantly remind me of ACOTAR.
There was a thing that annoyed the hell out of me, probably Sebastian. I don’t remember what it was, but it has something to do with him and probably the MC being an idiot with him.
But all in all, I recommend this. It was a fun read. ...more

What sounds like a cliche setting with cliche main characters is anything but, all thanks to the writing. Yarros made an excellent job with the world and the characters. I can’t wait for the sequel....more

I had ups and downs with this book. After reading the author’s note on how he wrote the book amidst the pandemic needing to write something fun and light I can accept the humor a little better, although it still isn’t my type of humor.
The plot is good and creative, however, I wasn’t that into the writing, it was simplistic and therefore didn’t bring much depth to the characters. I liked the characters, but too bad we didn’t get to connect more with them. ...more

I started it because I wanted to see if I wanted to keep it on my reading list, and instead of only the first few chapters I somehow just continued reading it.
It’s well-written and easy to read. The main character wasn’t that likable to me because of the secret she kept from her best friend, but otherwise, it was alright (I mean if it wasn't an alright book I would've DNF-ed it). ...more

I loved how in the first book we had witches in Italy, and that it was set in a historical setting, then we had princes of hell added and curses. All of that was fun and right what I wanted to read, and most importantly it was more on the innocent side.
However, book three has a sex scene in the beginning, and it continues throughout the pages I read because Emilia and Wrath are so desperate to fuck each other. Now don’t get me wrong I like and read smut, however, I like to know what I’m picking up. As I said, this series wasn’t smut when it started and I wanted it to finish like that.
Good for Maniscalco that she wants to write smut books, but I don’t support it here where it was switched mid-series, AND it says it’s YA and Romance.

Almost half of the book I read wasn’t bad, that isn’t the reason I didn’t continue the book, but I didn’t find it interesting enough. A missing child that was hypnotized by the kidnapper/killer who implanted himself somehow in the kid’s head, albeit intriguing it was missing something for me....more
