“I’d give up my career to chase moments with the right woman.”
The Player was an entertaining, sexy and romantic read with a hot footie player and a strong down to earth heroine. We loved how we saw both sides of the socio economic divide and the realities that come with it as well as the effects it has on people and actions.
In terms of what we seek out of sports romances we didn’t really get the excitement or the thrill of the sport aspect nor the authenticity of the game. Despite this, however, we read The Player in one sitting and were caught up in ‘the chase’ and consequent addictive romance of Warren and Camila.
‘He was untamed perfection. That was what every inch of him screamed. And I was not about to be the one trying to tame him.’
Warren has grown up in quite a unique family setting and is now playing for Man Utd, He’s incredibly gorgeous and a blinding footie player, commanding the pitch and living the dream. Despite him being an American we really did feel his international demeanour and ‘flavour’ but we never felt that British factor of the story even though he was based in the UK. He has his finger in a lot of pies and shows himself to be not only an accomplished sports man but also a savvy business man. The latter being the starting of a beautiful yet at times fraught relationship with the beautiful Camila.
Warren’s not got an easy ride in getting what he wants though, as Camila has a strong head on her shoulders and does not suffer fools gladly. She is definitely no WAG! It takes a lot for her to let someone in and to take a chance on the unknown. The building drama and angst added to the story and there were a few moments where we went back and forth discussing the antics and actions of our couple.
“Life is short. We’re only here to chase moments. I’d rather make those moments worthwhile.”
We loved getting inside the head of both characters in this dual POV which definitely enhanced the story for us. The Player was a fabulous well written romantic indulgence, what we call an easy satisfying read that warms your heart and sets your pulse racing. For that, we definitely recommend this standalone read.

‘Breaking up with him was something I did because I had to. Not because I didn’t love him.’
After falling in love with Sarina Bowen’s previous work and being big fans of sports romances and second chance romances, it was a no brainer we were going to pounce on the first book in her Brooklyn Bruiser series. Hot hockey players and the women who win their hearts….hmmmm you had us at hello!
‘Georgia was his Kryptonite. Nobody else made him feel so alive. He never wanted it to end.’
Rookie Move was a sweet and sexy first book in this Hockey romance series with some deeply heartfelt moments and difficult subject matter which was handled sensitively and with love via Sarina Bowens words with Leo especially stealing our hearts. Boy did we experience his confusion, his hurt and the pure soul deep love he felt for Georgia. He is quite a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve.....Click here for full review at TBB

“Just how far will you go, to get what you want?”
We absolutely love this Author and have a soft spot for her from our memory of inhaling her Evermore series years ago during our paranormal binge. So when we saw Alyson Noël had a new series out, we grabbed Unrivaled. This is book one in the Beautiful Idols series and it could not have been any more different to what we were expecting, whilst this deflated us a wee bit it did not mean we didn’t enjoy it for what it was. It was very in your face and almost like car crash TV. Unrivaled is one of those books you hate to love, in our opinion. It’s full of arrogant and unlikable characters and reads like a reality show full of arrogant and backstabbing people- some spoilt and rich, some bored and indulged, others chasing their dream. It was a bit of a hot mess but we could not look away. Think Gossip Girls and the childish, selfish dramatics of High School with a menacing twist and you’re there.
‘…the whole freaking world read it – it’s all anyone’s talking about.’
So, our main players are: Layla, Aster, and Tommy. Each have their own POV and backstory. Layla is a Blogger of celebrity gossip, but really she has aspirations of moving to NY and becoming a respected journalist. Her boyfriend Mateo was a star for putting up with her. He sounded lush and we would’ve gladly taken him off her hands. Aster is a self-indulgent cow. Sorry, but we disliked everything about her. There were no redeeming qualities and the woe is me act did not work with us. As for Tommy, he didn’t harbour those petty and ugly characteristics and he could have easily made revelations to change the game, however at times he was quite the weak character…
‘Where the contest was concerned, they were all puppets in his twisted theatre, with Ira yanking the strings.’
Now, for the game, basically these three characters find themselves invited, amongst other players, into the glamorous world of the Los Angeles’s nightlife. Each given the task of night club promoter for several of the enigmatic Ira Redman’s clubs. The aim is to make the assigned club the most successful and luring the famous Madison Brooks to frequent it. A huge cash incentive is used as bait. However, is all as it seems??
“In the world of nightclubs, the younger, the hotter, and the more famous your gets, the more points they’re worth…Each week, the promoter with the least points will be eliminated, while the promoter with the most points will earn cash to spend on marketing and party planning for their clubs. The promoter with the most points at the end of the summer wins.”
The biggest mystery of them all; Madison Brooks, the latest IT Girl with her own secrets. Even though we got her POV we were only given snippets of secrets, power plays and hints of something sinister. It was all very clandestine and cloak and dagger so we are dying to find out what happens next….
“Impress me. Dazzle me. Wow me. But whatever you do, do not disappoint me.”
We can’t deny that this story intrigued us, especially as we came to realise how dark and creepy it was really turning out to be. The beginning thrilled us and the end had us riveted, so it was a shame that the middle let it down a bit by being quite slow and uneventfully repetitive. However, saying that – we will definitely continue with this trilogy as it had a delicious what the @%$£ ending!
“You are beautiful. You’re funny. You’re challenging, and by that I mean stubborn, and even if it can be aggravating, I still like it….I’d c[image]
“You are beautiful. You’re funny. You’re challenging, and by that I mean stubborn, and even if it can be aggravating, I still like it….I’d commit murder to hear you laugh again…But even with all that, darling, you are a serious pain in the ass.”
Be still our beating hearts. We just read the ONE story we’ve been waiting for over the last few years. The one we’ve always hoped and wished for. The Rock Chick book that in a way would bring us complete closure, because wow, we’ve always been wanting to hear Daisy and Marcus’ story. Well, let us tell you, their story was everything and more. It brought that warm fuzzy feeling of being back with much loved friends, through the brilliance of Kristen Ashley. We swooned once more, we cried bucket loads of tears and we remembered all the craziness and passion. It was utterly perfect and so damn romantic and nostalgic.
“Stop turning me on,” I warned
“Stop being cute,” he fired back
I stuck my tongue out at him.
He watched it then looked in my eyes. “That didn’t work.”
“Whatever,” I muttered.
We’ve loved Daisy from the moment we met her, how could we not? She’s got style, sass and definitely her own brand of class. She’s the friend you wished you had and who could deny her anything, all she’d have to do is call us ‘Sugar’ and we’d be putty in her hands. There was always a melancholy though associated with her and in this book we find out exactly the why’s and how’s. It was heart-breaking and so emotional but this girl has an inner strength that’d slay men. The romance, support, respect and total adoration Marcus showed her….seriously we melted into puddles on the floor, our hearts pounding and swooning in equal measure.
“I handle you with care. I’ll always handle you with care. I will never, not ever, Daisy, give you reason to leave me. I won’t cheat on you. I won’t beat you…..To end, you’re safe with me. You’ll get from me only what you deserve, which is everything I can give you doing it handling you with care.”
Marcus Sloane is a formidable man and as we discovered his back story and heard of his journey we lost our hearts all over again to this amazing man. He’s quite literally the epitome of perfection. When Marcus loves he LOVES, and will do absolutely anything in his power to make it known and the way in which he shows it…well this man is quite simply amazing.
“A dream,” she murmured.
“Sorry?”
“You. You’re the dream a girl like me never thought she could dream.”
We inhaled Marcus and Daisy’s story, how could we not. It was everything to us and we cannot thank Kristen Ashley enough for writing it, in her much loved unique manner. The queen of epilogues struck once more and we smiled through copious tears of happiness, our hearts feeling full and complete. Whilst sad that it’s over we just can’t feel anything but happiness and love right now. It was Aces! Rock on…and be prepared to be swept off of your feet.
“You’re safe now.”
“I’ve never been safe.”
“Okay, darling, but you’re safe now.”
“I wanna believe that. I wanna believe in castles.”

Holy steamy Kindles! With a tantalisingly teasing intro like that, how could we not partake in this bit of festive filth? Snowed in With the Boss provided some hot and steamy holiday hanky panky which will had us sizzling in no time! A well-paced novella with adorable characters.
'Until right now, I had no idea how good it could feel to be bad. But if this is what it's like to spend Christmas on the naughty list, then Santa can write my name on that sucker in permanent ink.'
Damn straight Jane! The naughty list is far more exciting!
Tennyson (Ten) and Jane have had secret feelings for one another for some time, with neither acting on their crush. Ten is the sweet and very dirty mouthed billionaire boss, who’s also a Dominant. Jane is his sweet, kind hearted assistant who whips Ten into shape on a professional level and has decided she wants to sample a dominant/submissive sexual experience and Ten can think of all the ways he'd like to whip Jane and her very delectable arse! Ten has visualised all the ways in which he wants to pleasure Jane and one snowy night in the lead up to Christmas, he shows her exactly what he's capable of and WOW! Is he ever VERY capable! He's well-endowed and very gifted and knows how to please a woman! Not only that but he knows how to hang decorations in style!
'We're only just getting started, and I'm hard enough to hang a string of Christmas lights from my cock.'
These two were not only passionate and hot but they were also very sweet together, and so we found we switched between swooning and fanning ourselves! A friends to lovers, boss/employee romance with BDSM themes which, which was fun, flirty and steamy. A perfect lead up to the Holiday Season. Sometimes it's good to be bad! Go on, try it. We promise we won't tell Santa!

‘He leaned down and kissed me as if it were the first time our lips had met. Every touch, every breath on my skin sent his love coursing through me.’
What a story! We couldn’t wait to get on the phone and discuss this book once we’d finished. Eliza Freed is a new author to us and we’re now eager to check out her other work after becoming so engrossed in this book, finishing it one sitting. An addictive, heartbreaking glimpse into the lives of two married couples, who, on the surface appear to be quite happy…dig a little deeper and cracks appear to show. This was a very clever bit of writing that kept us on our toes and guessing. We love it when a book manages to pull one over on us, and Josh & Anna, Gabe & Claire did exactly that.
“The only thing I’m sorry about is the way you feel right now. I was selfish. I needed you more than I loved you. For that, I apologize.”
It’s important to note that in our opinion, we feel this book is one best experienced completely spoiler free because the author does such a fabulous job of building the story into a guessing game. We had continual theories and thought we had it pegged throughout, but we were wrong....See full review at TBB

‘Love hurts. It gives, and it takes away. It’s brutal with its beauty.’
We absolutely love this series, so were excited to read Isaac’s story – which is book five – as it’s the one we’ve been dying for. Whilst this can be read as a standalone we highly recommend reading this series in its entirety, as it’s fabulous. So much romance, passion, drama and angst. So much emotion and love.
‘His thoughts, his dreams, his wants, and his desires. This man is dangerous to me.’
We weren’t sure where Isaac’s story would go or how he would find his happiness but we were ready to find out. The enigmatic – almost stuck in life’s limbo – Fox brother who’s a renowned genius behind the camera needed to find his happiness, settle down and be loved. He needed to find his place as a man, not the brother or son of….
‘I am lost because he found me.’
Isaac and Flynn’s story is one of finding one-self through the aftermath of tragedy and the overcoming of obstacles as well as healing – with family at the core. It was beautiful, passionate and quite emotional. A true journey of love, reclaiming and understanding. With love comes hope. With injustice comes forgiveness. And with tragedy comes reclamation.
‘Even now my life is divided. There’s before. Then there’s after. The two are entwined yet so far apart that they cannot exist side by side.’
Isaac is at a crossroad. His photography career is soaring yet his personal life is struggling as his heart feels lonely, wanting someone he believes he can never have. Flynn. Isaac’s tired of meaninglessness and day to day. Deep down he wants permanence and forever whilst outwardly rebelling this. Tragedy finds him questioning everything. He intrigued us and stole our hearts from the first time we met him.
‘Life gives and life takes away. It’s brutal, and it’s fucking unfair, and I don’t understand it, but what I do know is that it goes on with or without you.’
Flynn has fought his way to be where he is today, currently working as a health and fitness expert as well as model turned actor. He’s still struggling to come to terms with a family tragedy and the confusion that’s risen from this heartbreak. Sometimes we question who we are and reject parts of ourselves despite the ease with which it makes us feel or what our heart clearly needs. Sometimes we hurt the ones we love. Sometimes we need reassuring that it’s okay to love who our heart desires.
‘Why did I ever fight this? Why did I ever think I could win against the power this man has over me? He owns me.’
Flynn and Isaac do not have the best memory of each other for many reasons, yet is this truly so? Meeting up again brings back pain and confusion yet through personal realisations and healing comes self-assurance and an open heart and mind. Sometimes the best comes to those who wait, and who opens their soul to true love.
‘Acceptance is serenity. It’s happiness, it’s understanding, it’s faith in yourself and others. It’s knowing that you can’t change the past, but you can choose your future. Acceptance is love.’

“When I saw you? When you looked at me? I felt like I’d been waiting to see you my whole life, that my soul was off center until you put your arms around me. I felt safe, and until then I hadn’t even been sure what safe was.”
This is a very difficult book to review in too many words as its so easy to ruin it with spoilers, which we have always vowed never to do, as we ourselves hate knowing anything that will impact our enjoyment of a story. So as per usual, we won’t. Debra Anastasia has written something incredibly special in For All The Evers. It was superb and mesmerising.
“Yours is a face worth fighting for. Don’t worry. I’ll make your future safe.”
A story dedicated to her Uncle Thomas whom she’s never met, and who fought and died in war. We know he would’ve been incredibly proud of her for writing this epic romance in his name and honour. If that wasn’t enough to make our hearts beat that little bit faster, this story took our hearts and pushed them so much further. Truly. Madly. Deeply.
“If true love hurts more than this does, I don’t want any part of it.”
A story with an otherworldly feel written in the most enthralling, beautiful and captivating way. Debra Anastasia reminded us of why we fell in love with her writing years ago. This felt utterly real, honest and bursting with hope and love. We were overwhelmed by how intensely we felt this Authors heart beating in every page turned. Her love for her characters so powerful, we were fully involved as we felt the pain, the love, the loss, the desperation and the hope. We felt the fight. We felt the importance of this story and the passion for it. We felt every single word.
“Dream girl. I love you enough to die for you.”
Written from the heart, this is a journey where past meets present, depicting bravery, addiction, sacrifice, determination, perseverance and redemption. Ultimately it captured the very essence of love and what we’d do in the name of love. We cried tears of joy and devastation. Debra Anastasia wrote a wonderfully unique story that felt so different and new. We willed it to be, with fear in our hearts. Wanting and needing this love to survive, be real and conquer what is unfathomable. Thomas and Fallen’s love story stole our very souls, Debra Anastasia handed our hearts to them through her words and we gave them gladly.

‘William would stand between her and the darkness. Always.’
Without hesitation this series is one of my all-time favourite paranormal romances. It’s exquisite in its beauty and epic in its ‘old school’ paranormal aspect. So vivid and captivating; – so enthralling and exciting. Every single one of your senses will stand to attention and your heart beats in rhythm with its tempo. Perfection.
“You were the one who taught me hope, Cassita.”
This final instalment was a tempestuous one of saving your true love, fighting vampyre battles of old and new as well as overcoming the inconceivable and unthinkable, enemies and obstacles alike. It was fast paced when it mattered and seductively slow and passionate when needed. So very exciting in its paranormal hunt, so very sensual in its romance.
“You are my choice, my destiny, my blessing and my cure.”
One for the heart and soul as we not only spend a luscious time in Italy but also travel to various scenic parts of Europe. A vivid voyage of the imagination, of the heart and of the world’s beauty. A fighting journey of setting your soul free and watching it soar. Of Raven showing strength, determination and honest purity of love and William showing a compassionate and human core to his vampyre being.
“Women are mysterious,” he mused.
She laughed. “In what way?”
“They’re a study in contrasts; soft and strong, fierce and gentle. They can do everything, of course, and yet one feels compelled to do everything for them.”
This is William and Raven’s final chapter and I was riveted wanting them to find their peace and keep their intense love for one another safe from those wanting to tear it asunder and exert revenge and war. I have to admit to having my reservations as I just couldn’t see how it was going to end well for this precious love affair, what with all the loose ends and persistent deception and double crossings. However, once again, Sylvain Reynard proved to be a master of the written word. It was surprising in its unique brilliance and overwhelmingly heart-breaking yet inspiring all at the same time.
‘So much pain. So much death.’
This series must be read in order, and with all the books now available to purchase you’re in for an experience of passion and thrilling suspense woven into an impressive cultural and artistic beauty.

“Just don’t break me…” “I doubt I could break you. But I’d always put you back together.”,/i>
It’s been a while since we’ve picked up a Barbara Elsborg book and from the very first chapter, we were reminded of why we adore this author’s work as much as we do. Whether it’s M/F or M/M there is a sadness and despair to her stories that’s always alleviated in some ways by the injection of acerbic, sarcastic witty inner monologue or banter. She has a gift of injecting slivers of light into the darkness, sadness and vulnerability of her characters and Drawn In displayed this talent perfectly.
Kell, and Gethin were such tortured and lonely characters, giving the story an overall feeling of melancholy. Our hearts truly ached for them both. Both men carried the scars, pain and liabilities of their past. They came across as such lost souls we could feel their loneliness and imminent connection through the pages.
“I need you to help me forget, not remember,” Kell whispered. “Can we just have that? For a few hours?”
We were held captive by Barbara Elsborg’s words, imprisoned by the riveting, thrilling and suspense of the story, whilst finding the emotion, passion and connection between the characters gripping............Click here for full review

“When you fall in love, it should be a happy time, yeah?” “Well, yeah.” “This isn’t the ideal situation, is it? We’re dealing with something unknown here.”
When we read the synopsis for Thursdays, we were instantly gripped, knowing we had to read this book…straight away! It’s a compelling synopsis and we’re glad to say the story lived up to it. We were in the mood for a read with lots of heart, relatable characters, we needed drama but didn’t want unnecessary, Kindle throwing angst nor did we relish being left in a depressed state. We wanted to relate to the characters and needed to be hooked from start to finish and Thursdays by Harper Bentley delivered exactly that. Birdie and Beck’s story was engrossing, sad and beautiful.
‘When someone has fallen out of love with you, how do you stop doing the same on your end? It’s not a faucet. You can’t just twist the handle and turn it off.’
Beck and Birdie were such fabulous characters and our hearts went out to them. We never once questioned their sincerity and we loved their honesty. See more of this review at TBB

‘…the boy with the bruised face looked up, looked right at the stairway, and saw me. I didn’t understand how, because in a house often filled with voices and people and even when it was silent and nearly empty, no one really saw me. But this boy did.’
What an emotional, passionate and at times distressing second chance romance, Fire in you was. It had us riveted and we fell in love with Jillian and Brock. Whilst this is part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone, yet it’ll make you want to binge read every book if you haven’t already. We’ve read previous books in this series and loved being back with those characters.
‘…it had unlocked something inside me, something I’d long since thought was dead. The desire to start really living again.’
A young girl falls in love with an older boy, who got his second chance at life, and she becomes his relentless shadow for years to come, with her heart falling more and more in love. Sadly, her heart is left bruised on the floor and circumstances beyond anyone’s control sees horrific tragedy and destruction which leaves her heart and very being, shattered.
“I can’t…I can’t remember the last time I saw you smile.”
Jillian, in many respects, has it all. A large and loving family, caring friends and fabulous prospects in life. Sadly, her path doesn’t fall in line and it all begins with her heart wanting what it wants. We loved Jillian, she’s recovering and coming to terms with the after effects of great trauma, yet still hasn’t actually fully resolved and overcome what happened and the consequences. It takes Brock, her childhood friend and owner of her heart, to come back into her life for everything to be laid out and for conflict and past issues to be resolved. Albeit reluctant, and somewhat unwilling.
‘Talking about Brock brought forth a lot of wonderful memories at the same time that it dragged up things I didn’t want to deal with.’
Brock is a bit of an enigma, yet slowly we learn about him from Jillian’s POV and through her, we too fell in love. He came from a traumatic childhood and was accepted into a stranger’s home and given a second chance at living. Brock stole our hearts and despite the drama, and us completely understanding Jillian, we felt for this guy and understood his reasons and behaviour. Whilst we were never in his head it was very clear what he felt and what he wanted and at no time did we doubt his intentions nor his heart. Sometimes time heals and furthers understanding. Sometimes the heart reminds us of what it wants and rejects everything else. Sometimes it takes others to see what we cannot.
“It’s a second chance for us.”
So much guilt, repressed memories and broken hearts. So much strength, healing and love. This story had it all and we dare you to not fall in love with Brock and Jillian. Our hearts broke, soared – cried and rejoiced. A beautiful and sexy second chance love story that’ll melt your heart, yet set fire to it in the same breath.
“That smile is nothing to ever be ashamed of. It’s a smile to be fucking proud of.”

We’ve been on such a book high since finishing Hail Mary! This book made us feel so bloody happy as we lost ourselves completely to Jimmy and Mary’s story, easily declaring it to be our favourite sports romance of the year.
“Break the rules for me. Please.”
Nicola Rendell managed to deliver the perfect balance of explosive chemistry, naturally funny moments, swoony sweet, ridiculously sexy and abundant emotion to Hail Mary. We swooned over Jimmy, we fell in love with Mary, we giggled over her friendship with Bridget, we lost our hearts to little Annie and we howled with laughter at Frankie Knuckles, (pun intended) that cute little canine! Nicola’s comedic timing is spot on and so effortless. Not once did it feel forced, flowing easily between all characters=and many a time, this author had us in fits!.....Click here for more of this review

‘My papa always said that how a man was with his family said a lot about what made up their soul. And if they were good with animals, it proved patience and gentleness, and an understanding of what it was to be pure and kind. It was funny really. My father had always wanted me with someone who bore those traits.’
This story was beautifully written and so rich in flavour and scenery, we felt as if we were there, in the rolling hills of Italy, home to everything sumptuous and decadent. We’ve said this many times before, but it’s truly the sign of a great artist when they can write anything and everything and do it naturally and so well, like Tillie Cole can. She makes us laugh, swoon and cry- happy or sad tears. She makes us feel. Whilst we very much loved aspects of A Veil of Vines, especially the latter part, it wasn’t one of our favourites. That however is not necessarily the story’s fault. For us, what we were expecting from book teasers we’d seen, the synopsis added to the pacing and a bit of a struggle with character connection; all sadly impacted our full reading enjoyment. Despite that, there is no question that the writing was once again stunning and the attention to detail, perfection. In some ways this story was a perfect, easy and romantic Sunday read that just makes you feel all warm inside.
‘We were tangled, chaotic perfection, a frantic, flawless mess.’
Slow and sweet does it when you’re dealing with two beautiful hearts that are two halves of one whole. Soulmates. Meant to be. Pure love. It was oh so romantic and we relished that, the heart wants what it wants no matter the obstacles thrown in its way. Who’s to say what’s written in the stars where emotions, passion, understanding and friendship is concerned. It’s the ties that bind us that prevents us from always seeing the beautiful light.
‘….for a brief moment in time, we had been two halves of one whole.’
Caresa, Zeno and Achille; their story was a twist on an old yet modernised fairy tale where really, there was no evil for us to despair at or rebel against. Rather, we felt for them all and we rejoiced and basked in any moment of happiness or hopelessness with compassion and love. Whilst we thought this book would heavily feature Zeno as the Royal Prince, in many respects it didn’t, so we would LOVE to hear his story and see him settled and happy. We did guess the plot early on for various reasons yet our hearts still melt into a puddle towards the end, it was sheer romantic beauty! This is definitely one for the hopeless romantics like us.

“I hope you don’t waste your life chasing a ghost, Sam.”
Hostile Workplace is a romantic, angsty and funny second chance romance. Mostly told in the hero’s POV we both hated and loved him but mostly we just felt so bloody sorry for him. He’s an infuriating cock but he does have a huge heart that belongs to his past, leaving him unable to find peace and true love in the present. Every relationship is a struggle and mostly his life is a perfected habit. He comes across sullen and disrespectful yet this façade hides a broken heart, loneliness and a sense of loss. Sam is actually a bloody decent bloke who’s still confused about a part of his life which is playing into the present.
‘She killed everything we could have been. She stopped the wonderful.’
Routine and habit is an easy slot to fall into and it takes one hell of a shock to the system to rouse yourself out of it. Sam makes a discovery that makes him question everything and when a familiar face from the past rears it’s beautiful and much loved face he embarks on a journey full of truth finding and revelations that’ll shock him to the core.
“Then you don’t understand what I went through. No matter what I said, the one person on earth who always had my back, whom I loved more than anything on this fucking planet, who always believed in me suddenly didn’t. And there was nothing I could do about it.”
There’s so much anger, hostility and resentment in this story it needed the laughs and romance to balance it out and mostly it had those elements. Reading Hostile Workplace was like unravelling a mystery through snippets from the past as well as through friends and family accounts. It’s amazing what can grow from insecurities and small misunderstandings. This story and A.M. Madden’s fabulous storytelling made for one of those perfect easy reads on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Well that’s just what it was for us and we enjoyed every minute of it.
‘I knew the moment we saw each other again, we’d fix everything that was broken.’

What a gripping read! For us, this wasn’t just a suspenseful mystery thriller, it was also a story explored how healing can come from the most tragic and awful of circumstances. How can prosper from bad. Told in varying pov’s with seamless past/present switches, we couldn’t wait to uncover the whole story! To unveil the toll secrets, lies and deceit could weigh on a family!
‘A mother knew if her baby’s heart was still beating somewhere out there, and Helen never felt the loss of Sophie in the deepest recesses of her heart.’
K Larsen is a master manipulator and fabulous suspenseful author. She has woven a story of pain, loss, grief and showcased how closure and healing can come from the most tragic and painful of situations. See more of this review here

4.5 ‘we need more’ stars!
“You’re innocent. And I’m going to ruin you.”
We love that excitement we experience when a much loved Author has a new series coming out. So when The Pawn landed on our kindles -which is book one in a series- we jumped right in. When you meet the anti-hero – Gabriel Miller– you’ll know what we mean when we say; consider knickers melting off at first ‘sight’ because woah!!! Once again Skye Warren showed us why we love her writing as much as we do, it has real depth and such fabulous characterisation.
“There’s only one thing I’m going to call you. Mine.” The possession in his voice made me shiver. “Never.”
We love our dark romance reads- falling in love with the anti-hero and the strong but wronged, beautiful heroine who loses a part of her heart unwillingly. There’s something about these stories, you just know that despite hating the fact that you fall in love with a wicked man, there’s something vulnerable and passionate hiding within him, it just takes a hell of a lot of work to find it but you know it’s there. The passion calls to you and you can’t help yourself. So yeah, we were there every step of the way with Avery as she sold a beautiful part of herself, encountering an enigmatic man who stands for everything she rejects, and whose role in her father’s demise may have been pivotal.
‘Everything he says is designed to scare me. Everything he does is designed to knock me down.’ “Be careful. I’m more dangerous than you know.”
The Pawn was sexy, enticing, dark, mysterious and passionate and we were hooked from page one. We felt the connection and whilst Avery was an ‘open book’ if you will – Gabriel stayed a bit of a hard nut to crack. What we saw, felt and experienced though made us fall in love with this man. The glimpses we got of what was hiding beneath convinced us of that. It felt as if a captor may somehow become a saviour?
‘I’m the pawn, and he’s my triumphant captor.’
Poor innocent Avery, everything changes from one day to the next. Her life, what she believes to be real turns out to be not so. She’s had such tragedy and emotional upheaval in her life, ruled and nurtured by a beloved hand of lies. The sacrifice she’s willing to make is huge, almost unbelievable, yet we understood her intentions and desperation.
‘I have to believe I’m doing this for a reason. Have to believe that it will be enough. There’s no one left to save us except me.’
Gabriel Miller; he saw, he wanted, so he took. Yes please! This man has that whole over protective, dark and dangerous, insanely sexy vibe going on which we love so much. But….we don’t believe we’ve seen his complete true nature yet.
‘He is eccentric, but he’s also methodical, intelligent. Strategic. Everything he does had a purpose.’
Pasts are revealed, people exposed and hearts unveiled yet mystery and secrets remain. We have a feeling there’ll be more twists to come on the road of recovery, redemption, love and revenge. We were gutted when we turned that last page as we could’ve kept reading, desperate for more. We inhaled it! At least we don’t have too long to wait before we find out just where their story goes in The Knight. LOVED it and highly recommend for lovers of dark romance and their anti-heroes.
“You hurt me, you know….Whenever I think about you, I hurt.” He puts a hand to his chest. “Here.”
