I want to see more of them in depth with their backstories and relationships. Unfortunately, this was released in 2018 and I can't find any mention of a continuation, even tough it left off a heavy suggestion of more to come. There's a lot of potential here and I hope there'll be another volume eventually.
One of the things I really liked, was there was some Spanish dialogue that was woven in and it wasn't translated on the page. I thought that was really cool!
The art style was brilliant. It did a great job adding a lot of visual character, and the action of the dodgeball scenes felt fast-paced.
My biggest complaint was the pacing of the plot. It felt all over the place and creates some things that don't make sense. For example, Tomás is new to dodgeball and is set up as not knowing any of the rules but it turns out he has some natural talent, so then he's made team captain for some reason? ...more

The is the Maps/Gotham Academy story that I picked Batman: The Brave and the Bold up for. A great start and can't wait to see where it goes.
Artemis: The Poison Within part 1: 4.5 Stars. Really nice writing in this one. It's just Artemis and her thoughts. Has me really intrigued.
Nameless: 4 Stars. Nice art. Narrated in an interesting way, as a countdown of Nameless' life. I haven't read a story with Duke Thomas before, but he seems really cool so I'll have to check some stuff he's in.
Lois Lane: The Game: Prologue. 3.5 Stars. I feel like this one will get good as it goes. Just a bit too short here.
Batman: The Cheeseburger. 5 Stars. Loved the black and white art with this story! And such a fun insight into Batman....more

Gotham Academy #1: Maps of Mystery collects three stories featuring Maps, a character from the Gotham Academy series: "They Make Great Pets", "Sophomore Year" (from DC's Saved by the Belle Reve (2022) #1), and "Davenport House". All three were great reads, and it's always a treat to get more Gotham Academy content.
Hopefully there'll be more new Gotham Academy stories on the way!...more

ThI read a couple of the early issues of this run back when they were first releasing, so it was great to be able to go back and read the full thing. The thing that made me pick up Batgirl of Burnside Omnibus now is that I heard that a few of the characters from Gotham Academy (a fav series of mine) show up. And it was fun to be back in the academy and see Maps and Olive, even if it was only for a few pages.
Batgirl of Burnside was a great read. I enjoyed my time immensely with these characters, story, and the setting of Burnside. The art was stunning (there were a couple pages towards the end that I wasn't a fan of art-wise. Not sure if it was a guest artist or what, but it went back the the usual amazing artwork quick thankfully!).
This is the first Batgirl comic I've read and I definitely want to read more, just not sure where to go next. I'll most likely check out Batgirl Returns Omnibus, which is the story just before Burnside. And then I might skip the Batgirl, Vol. 1: Beyond Burnside run, as I had a look at the art and am not the biggest fan, and go to Batgirls, Vol. 1: One Way or Another (which has Becky Cloonan on it who is one of the Gotham Academy writers)....more

Hollow is a fun graphic novel set in the town of Sleepy Hollow. The town leans fully into the 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' year round, but especially in the month of October. But something paranormal with a vendetta against the Van Tassel line sets its sites on Vicky. It's up to Vicky, Izzy, and Croc to find a way to defeat the creature, along with some headless help, before it's too late and this Halloween season becomes Vicky's last.
I really enjoyed our trios friendship and the sapphic romance between Izzy and Vicky was cute. I feel like this would make for a great TV show. ...more

The Ballad of Olive Silverlock was a great volume, if too short. The art was beautiful, the characters and their banter was perfect, and the plot was really interesting.
While I'm waiting impartially for another Gotham Academy series (the first series got a bind up very recently so there might be hope- Gotham Academy: TR - Trade Paperback), I'll be following these characters that I love as they pop up in other series'; Maps and Tristan are going to be in Batman: The Brave and the Bold which I'm hyped for! ...more
