Mismo tema que aquella otra obra, y en cierto modo una especie de continuación, dada la edad de la hija de la protagonista. Esta, madre soltera, outsider que se ha llevado muchas hostias en la vida por ir a su bola —algo intolerable en la sociedad japonesa— lo paga a ratos con su propia hija y aquellos que tratan de acercarse a ella. Decían en alguna reseña que se trata de una novela "incómoda", algo que comparto. El conflicto y la tremenda veracidad de los personajes de Tsushima es de nuevo lo mejor, con una mujer que se debate entre el vacío del estigma social y los momentos de libertad que ser una marginada le proporciona. Me dejo en el tintero temas como el machismo sistemático en la sociedad japonesa, el aborto, la infidelidad... pero creo que son bastante comunes en este tipo de literatura. Si Territorio de luz, como su título indica, dejaba una sensación de esperanza a pesar de las tinieblas del relato, aquí sucede más bien lo contrario. Un publicista avispado habría titulado esta novela "Territorio de sombra" y se habría quedado tan ancho pensando que duplicaría las ventas....more

Eso, y que yo esperaba una colección de relatos (desde Cuentos de Galitzia no ha publicado narrativa breve) y me encontré con algo a medio camino entre las memorias y el ensayo. Superado el desconcierto inicial, pude por fin empezar a disfrutar de este minúsculo volumen compuesto por cuatro piezas, siendo la última, "Grochów" —que es también el título original del libro y el nombre de un lugar, como suele ser habitual en el escritor polaco—, la más extensa y de mayor categoría: una elegía para los amigos, pero al mismo tiempo para el mundo de la juventud. Ella sola ya vale cinco estrellas. Y es que es este un libro que adopta las formas de un obituario y deja, al terminarlo, el regusto amargo de todo aquello que desaparece. Aquel cuento está incluido en Perras de reserva y, aunque aún no ha salido en España, tenía muchas ganas de leer más. La autora mexicana es conocida por su activismo feminista y el libro en cuestión da fe de ello. Muchas de las historias están directamente entrelazadas, con personajes que entran y salen, protagonizan y padecen, matan y mueren. Es una antología violenta y reivindicativa, con un aura de humor macabro y una cruda reflexión sobre lo que implica formar parte de una minoría estigmatizada. Para nada victimista, el mensaje de su autora no es poner la otra mejilla sino levantarse y golpear de vuelta más fuerte, más salvajemente. Con un lenguaje de la calle, en la tradición del relato oral, saca al lector de su lugar seguro y le arroja de lleno al conflicto, escenarios en los que no tiene más remedio que mancharse y hacer algo. Se trata de una novelita corta cuyos temas principales son la relación de tres mujeres con su cuerpo y el papel de la mujer japonesa en la sociedad contemporánea. Le valió a su autora el premio Akutagawa, y lo curioso es que años después la historia original fue ampliada y complementada por una segunda parte. En España, la nueva edición la publicó Seix Barral y es más conocida (la original tuvo una tirada muy corta) y yo aún no la he catado. Cantante, bloguera y luego escritora, hasta el momento es lo único en castellano de Mieko Kawakami, pero espero que eso cambie pronto porque he tenido la ocasión de leerla en inglés y me encanta su estilo....more

Este primer número de Astra lo protagonizan casi exclusivamente mujeres y todo el repertorio roza lo excelente; de hecho, tardaría menos en citar los textos que me han llegado menos. La frescura, lo vivo que se siente el lector al enfrentarse a páginas concebidas en su mismo presente, es la sensación más intensa que he experimentado al asomarme a las letras de Mieko Kawakami, Dorthe Nors, Maria Clara Drummond o Dahlia de la Cerda, esta última el gran descubrimiento para mí. En cuanto al formato de la revista, me parece una auténtica gozada tanto por tamaño, papel empleado, maquetación, ilustraciones... Rara vez doy cinco estrellas a este tipo de publicaciones, y no va a ser el caso, pero se me hace necesario remarcar el gran nivel encontrado en todos los sentidos....more

Un tema muy recurrente en la literatura japonesa contemporánea, que está más o menos presente en todo lo que ha pasado por mis manos de manera reciente. La dependienta está escrita en un tono ligero, muchas veces humorístico, con un giro final muy del estilo La vegetariana de Han Kang. Se lee sin problema y está bien traducida. Recomendable....more

Espero y deseo que poco a poco alguien se anime a traducir cosas, porque tiene novelas prometedoras como The Last Children of Tokyo y Scattered All Over the Earth, ambas en clave de ciencia ficción.
Yoko Tawada es japonesa pero emigró muy joven a Alemania. Escamígera aborda la experiencia del migrante utilizando un lenguaje muy poético lleno de imágenes surrealistas. Sentirse extranjero, perder la propia voz, volver al hogar y descubrir que ya nada es lo mismo, que allí se es también un extraño, quedando así en un limbo del que es imposible retornar. Me ha parecido una pequeña maravilla, y la edición es también una pieza para atesorar....more
