Es también difícil ver la humanidad en un monstruo que se devoró a sí mismo. Y es bastante complicado aportar algo nuevo a una historia, como es la que gira alrededor de la publicación de A SANGRE FRÍA, que se ha contado hasta la saciedad en el cine y la televisión. Y, sin embargo, Nadar y Xavier Béteaucourt son capaces de darle un giro fascinante a esa época que configuraría muchas de las cosas que, en la literatura y los medios de comunicación, se implantarían años después: la obsesión social con los true crime, la fascinación por la jet set, la mediatización del oficio de la escritura…
Con unas acuarelas que nos transportan a un sueño otoñal en lo más profundo de los Estados Unidos, en TRUMAN CAPOTE, REGRESO A GARDEN CITY se hace un análisis profundo del proceso mental que vivió el autor al enfrentarse a unos hechos que le cambiaron la vida para siempre (aunque es difícil decir si para mejor o para peor). En un juego metaliterario que solo puede crearse en viñetas, en este cómic asistimos al rodaje de la película sobre la novela, pero también a la escritura en mitad de una investigación y al descenso a los infiernos que esa exposición emocional supone para el autor.
Este cómic es una reflexión (plástica y literaria) sobre la ficción que alterna distintos lenguajes y que nos acerca un poco más a un personaje que cuanto mas grande se hacía más se empequeñecía. Estoy seguro de que a Capote le habría encantado verse convertido en un personaje de cómic y que, en estas viñetas, captaría la dignidad y la complejidad con la que los autores han sabido verle.

Y esa sensación, como todo lo que tiene que ver con la angustia o con lo sensorial, es muy difícil de plasmar en un sentido gráfico. Por eso me ha parecido tan buena la historia de Clara, porque su autor, Jaume Vadell, es capaz de captar sensaciones y sentimientos abstractos y llevarlos al papel de una manera reconocible para cualquier lector que haya sufrido de esas circunstancias.
Con un estilo minimalista, con grandes dibujos de líneas simples y muy pocos bocadillos, en HORMIGÓN se juega con lo real y lo onírico para tratar de transmitir algunos de los aspectos más comunes de la ansiedad (que en este caso tiene mucho que ver con lo social y que se manifiesta en forma de aislamiento y depresión).
Clara se ha transformado: ya no es divertida, ni quiere trabajar, ni le apetece estar con sus amigas o sus familiares. Ahora es una persona distinta que solo quiere estar aislada y pensar en su propia tristeza. Y todo esto se lleva al papel con una gran inteligencia: usando metáforas visuales («ahogarse en un vaso de agua», «sentirse invisible»…). También me ha gustado mucho que, además de a lo que la ansiedad le hace a quien la vive, la historia le preste mucha atención a lo que esta supone en las vidas de las personas sanas de su alrededor, que soportan un calvario diferente pero también muy angustioso.
Aunque en mis reseñas nunca suelo hablar de la edición, considero que merece la pena destacar la apabullante calidad gráfica y material de este libro. Desde la tinta y los colores hasta el papel y los más mínimos detalles están trabajados para que el público lector sienta que tiene entre las manos un objeto precioso cuidado hasta el extremo. Se nota que La Granja es un estudio de diseño gráfico además de una editorial.

Y eso es justo lo que consigue Andrea Marcolongo en esta joyita de menos de 200 páginas: una hermosísima aproximación a la historia de la Acrópolis y a cómo esta fue vilmente desvalijada por los ingleses, que la desposeyeron de unos mármoles que aún mantienen cautivos a miles de kilómetros de donde deben estar.
Pero este no es un ensayo histórico al uso. Nos cuenta la noche que la autora pasó paseando descalza por el interior del Museo de la Acrópolis y cómo, en esos paseos, va recordando la historia principal y otras mil circunstancias que llevan al público lector a reflexionar con ella sobre la cultura clásica, el patrimonio, el arte, los museos... y, también, sobre ella misma y su relación con los libros, con Grecia, con su país, con el entorno humilde del que proviene...
En definitiva, es difícil contar más en tan poco espacio... ni hacerlo tan bien. Este texto es delicado, hermoso, hipnótico. Marcolongo te agarra de la mano y te anima a acompañarla a un viaje cultural en el que importa tanto lo que está como lo que no está.

Bosques tenebrosos, casas encantadas, seres misteriosos y gente solitaria se mezclan en unas historietas breves, aunque entrelazadas, en las que a menudo se prescinde de los bocadillos porque la historia la cuenta la propia imagen.
Laura Pérez ejecuta en este libro difícil de clasificar una radiografía de los silencios, una instantánea de los miedos, un catálogo de las soledades. Y lo hace de la manera sutil, elegante y original que ya es marca de la casa.

Esta novelita breve, lúcida y graciosísima nos presenta a una protagonista ególatra, desquiciada e insoportable que cree que todo el mundo es horrible menos ella y que, por supuesto, actúa en consecuencia. Su novio se harta de su compañía y le da un ultimatum, y ese es el detonante para que se introduzca en una espiral autodestructiva que sirve para que el público lector conozca su pasado, sus amistades y su particular filosofía de vida.
A pesar de que el final no está al nivel del resto del libro, Iris Owens demuestra en esta obra ser una escritora mordaz y una mujer inteligentísima. Contra todo pronóstico, su humor cáustico y plagado de referencias culturales y de la época ha envejecido muy bien; lo intolerable de muchos de sus chistes y comentarios resultan refrescantes en una época en la que el humor se entiende de otra manera completamente diferente. Además, la valentía de hacer protagonista a una mujer insoportable (pero nada caricaturesca sino muy real) resulta bastante transgresora cuando se lee desde una época que tiende a los héroes incuestionables y sin matices.
En definitiva, me ha parecido una lectura gamberra y entretenidísima que me ha servido para descubrir a una autora fascinante y para adentrarme en un entorno único. Y buena parte de este mérito recae en la labor de su traductora al castellano, Regina López Muñoz, quien consigue plasmar a la perfección el tono ligero, lo afilado de los chistes y el ritmo endiablado de la autora. ...more

Pero una cosa es enfrentarse a los aliados y otra, muy diferente, es hacerlo a una maestra rural que haría cualquier cosa por su alumnado. Cuando esta mujer se entera de que las fuerzas del orden están buscando a uno de sus alumnos, que es judío, organiza toda una huida a través de los alrededores del pueblo que tiene como único objetivo esconder al chico de las garras del nazismo. Pero esta docente no esta sola en su misión, lleva consigo al resto de su clase.
Este es un cómic absolutamente encantador, emocionante, valiente y lleno de valores positivos. Está presentado como una aventura, pero es mucho más: es el recuerdo de las consecuencias de ser permisivos con los radicales, es la confirmación de que solo el pueblo salva al pueblo y es, sobre todo, una carta de amor a la forma en la que los docentes se desviven por su alumnado. La gama cromática es una belleza, el diseño de los personajes (clásicos, expresivos, reconocibles, muy bien retratados) es sobresaliente y el dominio de la acción es brillante. Estamos ante un cómic ejemplar e importantísimo.

Esta es la historia de la estadounidense que fundó en París la mítica librería Shakespeare and company, pero también es un retrato maravilloso del París de la primera mitad del siglo XX y del ambiente literario, artístico y cultural que brotó durante esos años en aquella ciudad, un momento que pasaría a la historia como uno de los periodos más fértiles y revolucionarios de las artes.
Y Sylvia estaba en medio de todo el meollo. Su círculo, su company, está plagado por algunos de los nombres más sobresalientes de la literatura contemporánea. Y los escaparates de su librería fueron testigos de la transformación de una ciudad y de algunos de los sucesos más relevantes del siglo XX.
Este cómic es interesantísimo y encantador. Mezcla a la perfección lo personal de la autora (que convivió durante décadas con otra mujer) con lo estrictamente literario. Y además lo hace en un formato absolutamente sorprendente: con unos dibujos inspirados en la estética japonesa kawaii que si bien, a priori, no tendrían que por qué tener nada que ver con la historia relatada, sí que encajan a la perfección con el tono con el que las autoras narran todo lo que aquí sucede.
En definitiva, me ha parecido un cómic tremendamente sorprendente, fascinante y cargado de cosas interesantes. Una lectura que me ha hecho pasar las páginas con una sonrisa mientras me acercaba a un personaje único que desde ahora tendrá un huequecito permanente en mi corazón.

De «A toda pastilla» podría decirse que cuenta la historia de un conejo que está recibiendo quimioterapia, del lobo solitario al que le salva la vida y del viaje por carretera que juntos emprenden en pos de la libertad y de la curación. Pero resumirlo así deja fuera el humor irreverente, la ternura a raudales y el precioso mensaje de este cómic enfocado a lectores/as a partir de 10 años: que las amistades más insólitas son las que nos salvan la vida, que hay que elegir bien quién nos acompaña en el camino, que todos somos susceptibles de mejorar, que de todo se sale.
A TODA PASTILLA es un cómic espléndido, originalísimo y emocionante que trata temas muy complejos haciéndolos accesibles para todos los públicos. Bravo.

Y eso, precisamente, hace que sea difícil llevar su biografía a un libro y, mucho más, a un cómic.
Por eso me ha gustado lo que ha hecho la autora italiana Eleonora Antonioni: coger cinco episodios clave en la vida de Miller y plasmarlos en formato cómic de forma analítica y profunda. Además, huyendo del wikipedismo tan habitual de las biografías ilustradas, ha conseguido desarrollar una historia en la que se trenzan hechos con sentimientos personales de la protagonista, personajes secundarios y una muy buena ambientación histórica que encaja a la perfección con un dibujo muy cuidado y que representa muy bien la época que retrata.
En definitiva, este libro es un interesantísimo acercamiento, bien documentado, bien narrado y bien dibujado, a una de las vidas más fascinantes de todo el siglo XX.
