I'm so preocupied with all the bigger problems. I don't really think about the small things. I guess it could use a good beating." Viv swallowed and shook her head. "No. It could use a good burning."
Haha that line and others made me chuckle throughout the book. I loved Legends and Lattes so I brought Bookshops & Bonedust and couldn't wait to read this book. It didn't disappoint. I really enjoyed being in Viv's world. I like the contrast from fighting in battle to Viv sitting in the bookshop reading a book.
I did notice that this book wasn't as cosy as Legends & Lattes, which I super enjoyed with the basis of being in a Cafe and having a slower pace. But I don't mind as I enjoyed the characters in this book more than I did in the previous one. I enjoyed all of the characters. I love Fern the rattkin who owns the bookshop with Potroast. We also meet Gallina who is being introduced in this book and we see her again in Legends & Lattes.
<>Bookshops & Bonedust on the otherhand wasn't as slow and there was most of the time a dark under theme going on with Varine the Pale and wights shadowing the storyline of Viv and the other characters.
This book is 4.5*stars for me,

This is a new all-time favourite book. It was fantastic.
"It's a question of passion. The majority may not accept something, but as long as there are some who do, the existence of that thing - whatever it may be - is protected."
I loved that we met 5 different characters; each with their own story to tell in this book. I love it when the whole story nests other stories within it. Another ultimate favourite book is Scorpion Soup by Tahir Shah, where he tells story after another story and binds ten beautifully together at the end like a precious present.
So, anyway that's one of the big reasons I love this book. It's also full of heart, emotions and heart-break. There are some characters' stories I could more resonant with like the new mother and how she was coping with a toddler and a job.
The character I enjoyed the most though was Hiroya. He's unemployed and feels useless but then after one event after another finds himself in the library quite a lot and making connections with people and himself - and finding his passion again.
I definitely recommend this book and author. I will read her next book....more

By Ash, Oak and Thorn is a superb, funny and cozy read. It is beautifully written and has an interesting story that is filled with lots of nature-related mentionings of animals and plant life.
I love that Mrs Harrison made up an ancient language - the Wild Argot - which mostly animals and the Hidden Folk use but not humans. I like that she talks about environmental issues and the disappearance of wild things.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and ordered the second book already By Rowan and Yew as I can't wait to read more nature descriptions and see what is happening to the Hidden Folk.
I enjoyed most of the characters especially the birds mentioned like Spangle and Zip.
For some reason while reading this about the Hidden Folk, I thought about Hilda (the Comics). They both sort of have a similar vibe of light fantasy mixed with adventure and a lot of nature. I love reading these types of books.
I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author....more

This book was magical and fun to read. It has a 80’s feeling to it that reminded me of the Goons (which I haven’t seen yet) and other 80’s dramas that I’ve watched when I was younger.
All the characters were interesting and fun. The adventures into Waterfall Woods and meeting the sprites was enchanting.
I also loved the mentioning of the foods (though I eat plant based) throughout the book. Now I want a good porridge or a nice bap (“sarnie” where I live).
There is a lot of mentioning nature’s rhythm. Oliver touches on factory and ethical farming, balance of nature and that we all have a part to play in our world.
Jamie Oliver’s first Children’s book is a great start to a new series, which I’m looking forward to read....more

I love how the Snow Girl comes to be within the story and everything unfolds and connects to Tasha’s wish to have a friend. I like how it is all woven together and paints us a beautiful snowy landscape and friendships.
It gets quite emotional at some points especially towards the end. I felt for Tasha (although I also felt she was quite selfish) for wanting a friend and yet couldn’t bring herself to make connections because of something that happened in the *past (* you need to read the book for that!)
This is definitely a new favourite of mine by Sophie Anderson.
Beautiful ending to an awesome series. Sad to have finished it but will definitely pick these books up again in the near future for a re-read. One of Beautiful ending to an awesome series. I love the atmosphere of each book/story, the characters are great and I love the mysteries that are found in each book. There is a great deal of humour especially when there’s a talking cat and other interesting gadgets about like Clermit the clockwork Hermit Crab.
The Frostheart trilogy is great but I found that the Eerie-on-Sea series has a lot more heart in it. It’s like you can tell the author had a great time writing all these stories. Even though it has quite a bit of a dark under theme, there’s a coziness to it.
I love that all these stories take place at the seaside. It seems to be a small place, where everyone knows each other. There’s nothing better than a good background set up where you see familiar faces everyday!...more

5* and more stars If I could. Best book of the year for me with second would be The Thief Who Sang Storms as they both deal with very mature and dark themes.
This story had me in tears and such heartache for what happened to our main character, Petra, and all the other survivors on the mantis ship.
It is also a scary book of the possibility of what could happen to a human civilisation after Earth has been annihilated by a comet and they are trying to find another planet to live in. A new world without war and starvation but at what cost? The possibility of erasing the whole of human history? A new life without stories?
I personally rather die than live in a new world that tries to erase everything. I like to remember…
This book and story made me appreciate Mother Earth even more with its beautiful nature and animals in it. Do not take for granted the place you live in because what If? What If it would disappear?

The world is made of beautiful ragged snowy ice landscapes that draws you even more into the story.
My favourite characters are Tobu who is a Yeti and Guardian of Ash who brings wisdom to the story and Lunah who is a Human “Drifter” and is a super cool friend to Ash.
Ash (our main character) has his ups and downs as we follow his journey and adventures with the Frostheart crew. He is strong at heart but as we all do makes mistakes and has to learn the consequences from that.

"They contain magic, but it's up to the person reading the book to bring the magic to life. Without the reader, the magic just sits there. Same as a hat."
